WP:JCW update - Open access
[edit]BTW just a heads up, the WP:JCW compilation now reports whether or not publications and publishers are open access ones. It's not perfect, sometimes there are classes like (delayed open access being the category given to the article, but the infobox just says open-access = yes, so the bot picks one which might not be accurate. Most publishers should be unflagged because the publisher a mix of open and closed access journals, while most publications should probably be flagged as hybrid open access, since most will support a pay-to-make-it-free option.
Things should get considerably more accurate after the next dump, but if you have feedback, please let me know at WT:JCW#WP:JCW update - Open access! Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:22, 4 September 2026 (UTC)
troubles loading with safari
[edit]Hi,
I have a non-localized issue loading library sites using Safari. Happened on my desktop 2019 iMac using Ventura and my 2017 MacBook Air using Monterey. This is what it looks like:
Safari Can't Open the Page
Safari can't open the page "https://wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/login?
auth=production&url=https://www.cambridge.org/core" because Safari can't establish a
secure connection to the server "wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org". Guylaen (talk) 17:36, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- Also tried using Firefox for Newspaper Archives and articles load blank. Guylaen (talk) 17:36, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- That message, btw, isn't just for Cambridge. It's for all library items. Guylaen (talk) 17:37, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Guylaen Have you tried clearing cookies for oclc.org? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:32, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Clearing the cache was the first thing I did. Whenever I click on Newspaper Archives articles now, they just load blank. Guylaen (talk) 20:30, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- Also, the first thing it says now for every single library website now is that "This connection is not private." Guylaen (talk) 20:31, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Guylaen You noted clearing cache, did you also clear cookies? Just want to make sure you did both. What version of Safari are you using? You can find out by clicking Safari > About Safari. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 07:57, 25 September 2026 (UTC)

I've been without newspapers.com for three days
[edit]I had already been notified to renew. But this still hasn't happened.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:53, 18 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Vchimpanzee, has your's renewed yet? I submitted my renewal 10 days ago but still nothing. Out of the previous 4-5 renewal times, average is about 3 days.
- @Nikkimaria:, you usually accept - are there any issues? Bungle (talk • contribs) 10:19, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Nope, a couple of weeks is typical. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:59, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
I have been unable to renew due to the outage. Is there any way for me to renew at the current time? Thank you. Coretheapple (talk) 17:57, 22 October 2026 (UTC) Disregard. Back online. Coretheapple (talk) 15:54, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
The Wikipedia Library homepage is inaccessible (connection timeout)
[edit]As of October 21, 2026, I am unable to access the homepage of The Wikipedia Library:
https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/
The browser displays a connection timeout error ("This site can't be reached"). The issue occurs before I can reach the login page.
Could you please check whether there is an ongoing server-side issue? コロネン/Coronene (talk) 00:48, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Preparing_for_a_short-notice_security_update_to_our_services. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:50, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- @コロネン The library is now available again! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:01, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
Haaretz
[edit]There seems to be a problem with access to the Haaretz site. I am logged in, and can access other Library sites; but when I try to access Haaretz - both the English and the Hebrew site - although I can open the home page, if I click on any article I get the message "Access to www-haaretz-co-il.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org was denied You don't have authorisation to view this page. HTTP ERROR 403" I don't think that this is a problem with my own settings - does anyone else have this problem? Can you resolve this? RolandR (talk) 14:41, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- I just tried the link and it worked fine for me. I was able to view the following article: https://www-haaretz-co-il.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/food/2026-10-25/ty-article-magazine/.premium/000001a1-5dbb-d6b0-abe9-dfbb1bbf0000 and every other one I clicked on. Jimmyjrg (talk) 16:07, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- If I click on that link, I still get the HTTP ERROR 403 message. I have cleared my cache and cookies, and turned off my VPN and all Chrome extension, with no success. I have also tried Incognito mode and Edge, and also tried on my tablet, always with the same result. Is it possible that Haaretz is blocking my IP address? RolandR (talk) 17:55, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- I can’t even login to the library from Safari right now. Viriditas (talk) 19:40, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
I just cleared my cache again, and I was able to open the link that Jimmyjrg posted above. But no others - every other Haaretz page that I try to open throws the same error message. I seem to be able to open any other resource in the Library, it is just the Haaretz sites that are unavailable.RolandR (talk) 10:45, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Try a different browser with different security settings. I have trouble accessing most of these sites with Firefox in locked down mode. Viriditas (talk) 18:28, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- I have tried that (see above). I can't even access it using mobile data on my phone. But it is only the Haaretz sites that I can't access, everything else seems fine. RolandR (talk) 08:43, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
Cambridge University Press access seems to have expired
[edit]@Samwalton9 (WMF) access to Cambridge University Press seems to have expired again, see e.g. . I don't seem to have access to any CUP content that isn't already open access. Haven't found anything on Phabricator about the latest expiration. Hemiauchenia (talk) 22:56, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Have a look at Phabricator: T440413. —Bruce1eetalk 23:07, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Fair enough, as I said I did look on Phabricator before posting, but must have missed it. Apologies. Glad it's being worked on. Hemiauchenia (talk) 23:09, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
How to cite articles found in BNA?
[edit]Please explain how we form a correct URL for wikipedia citations, for articles we find in the British Newspaper Archive. Also: If I create an account just for them, and use their clipping tool, will wikipedia readers be able to see the article (as they do with the newspapers.com archive), or will they still be paywalled unless they, too, create an account with BNA?
As an example, I want to cite an article I'm reading here:
That is the Evening News (London), 24 September 1962, p. 6, an article with the name "Penhaligon's" in it.
The example URL given on the archived page for how to cite BNA was this:
url=https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000280/18751002/009/0007
I don't understand how to get from the URL I'm looking at, to the URL I need to enter for our citation format.
Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 22:45, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- See . "Select 'Citation', then 'Copy Link' to add the link to your clipboard. Note that the page number you are viewing is included in the URL." I tried doing this and couldn't get it to work. I logged in and then it kept asking me to log in over and over again, due to a loop. Might have something to do with my browser settings. I assume it removes the proxy when you do this. You can also use Full access available to users of The Wikipedia Library. outside of the citation. Within the citation you can use the url along with
url-access=subscription. Viriditas (talk) 23:10, 30 October 2026 (UTC)- It doesn't work for me, either.... I don't have a "Citation" button to click. I can click About > Copy, but that doesn't put a URL in the clipboard.
- I'll use the Full access available link, and hope for the best! Maybe a bot will fix it. Thank you for the quick response. Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 23:26, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- I'm assuming it doesn't let you shorten the URL and remove the proxy without logging in first. I can login to TWL and access BNA, but when I want to create the URL it asks me to login. I then use the BNA login credentials that I created and it says "Wrong username or password". So then I reset my BNA password and click the link in my email to login. It logs me in once again and then when I follow the instructions to create the link it starts the loop all over again. Viriditas (talk) 23:37, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- I've decided to just not add a URL, but it's a real shame that the interface is so broken that we can't share what they presumably wanted to give us access to. Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 23:56, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Looks like a lot of articles use {{BNA}}, but not sure if that still works. It doesn't work for me. Viriditas (talk) 00:04, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
