To Expand
Wikipedia Quality Current Issues To Do / Done Who's working on it?
Kaikōura Lead section needs some expansion. Most sections in the body are quite short; both Māori and European history have just a couple of paragraphs, and could be expanded, as could the information on its prehistory and moa bone finds. The number of residents seems to be wrong (it’s ratepayers). Several recently created articles on topics related to the town can now be linked from this article. The History section needs expanding, especially Māori history. The Geography section needs expanding to describe the setting of the town and some of the major geographic features such as the Lyell Creek, and the overall layout, including the Peninsula and South Bay. Coverage of the marina is needed. A new section on tourism is needed, with coverage of major tourism businesses, attractions and activities. The Economy section needs to have more about the early importance of agriculture and the role of the town as a farming service centre. The Governance section should be expanded with brief mention of the former County, and the change of region from Marlborough to Canterbury (already covered in detail in Kaikōura District). A section on notable and historic buildings is needed. The Fyffe historic area, Pier Hotel, and the redevelopment of the wharf area on the north side of the peninsula (Wakatu Quay) are worth covering in this article (rather than the Peninsula article). Marshelec, but needs help
Biodiversity of the Kaikōura region Many gaps to fill. This new article needs content about geological setting. Expand content about whales and dolphins. Add more about protected areas, add content about rare geckos, beetles and weta found in the area (see talk page) Marshelec, but could do with help
List of historic places in Kaikōura District
Marlborough Express Recently closed, which needs to be better covered in the article Wainuiomartian has expanded the article and added a photo.
Whale watching in New Zealand Currently poor quality with clumsy prose and several poor/unsuitable sources improved and better Kaikōura photos used. Link to the new article about Whale Watch Kaikōura when published.
Whale watching Content about Kaikōura needs improving improved and better Kaikōura photos used
2016 Kaikōura earthquake This article currently receives over 38,000 page-views annually, and this warrants efforts to make it as good as it can be. Doesn't mention the effect on the South Bay boat harbour or the recovery. photos could be moved to illustrate sections relevant to Kaikōura, and more information on the long-term effects of coastal uplift. Content has now been added about the effects on the marina and the restoration. Also headings rearranged, grammar fixes, more on roads (Ohau Point), more on tourists affected have been added
Kaikōura District The Economy section needs updating. Economics section has been updated
Kaikōura Peninsula Needs more content about history of whaling stations, New Zealand fur seals, and the breeding colony of red-billed gulls, farming on the peninsula (See: Melville Syme), and the walkway. Also Gooch's Beach concretions. Purchase of a large block of land on the Peninsula by Ngai Tahu (Whale Watch) needs mentioning. Wainuiomartian added sections on gulls, seals and the walkway. Giantflightlessbirds added more on the geology, plus photos.
Kaikōura Canyon Update with reports of the impact of the 2016 submarine landslides, including reduction in observed sperm whale activity Marshelec
Kaikōura Ranges Needs more content about geology/formation, plus flora and fauna, and link to Ka Whata Tu O Rakihouia Conservation Park Geology section added by Giantflightlessbirds Marshelec
Ka Whata Tu O Rakihouia Conservation Park Needs expansion
Mount Fyffe updating the access and hut information
Red-billed gull This article receives more than 10,000 page-views annually and warrants significant improvement more of the published science on – especially if video is available

Wainuiomartian added section on distribution, still to do Kaikoura colony

Wainuiomartian
Hutton's shearwater Reasonable as it was the subject of Critter of the Week a few years back and Mike worked on it extensively. Needs updating and a photo of the Peninsula colony. Video of rafting shearwaters would be great. Marshelec
Banded dotterel See Talk:Double-banded plover#Quality issues. ('Banded dotterel' is the NZ name but not the article title.) Trying to get video clips of typical behaviour, to replace the existing poor videos in the article. Marshelec
Dusky dolphin Video available?
Mark Solomon Could be brought up to the standard of Ailsa McGilvary
Mount Lyford A proper rewrite and better citations. Wainuiomartian started on this. So far can only find info on ski resort rather than the mountain itself. Help if you can. (Giantflightlessbirds added some fossil info.) Wainuiomartian
