Some editing advice

Hi, it is often best to edit one section at a time, rather than several at once (as you have been doing at United Nations Operation in Somalia II). @Buckshot06 Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately the majority of the Somali gov books I find and scan from are taken off private sellers. This specific one was being sold off by some professor. Looking at Worldcat, it seems a few copies are available at university libraries as well. I've probably found a dozen or so at this point, but I have only uploaded from two Somali government books and they are both cited in their respective uploads. The 1982 war pictures are from the book Ethiopia's Invasion of Somalia, 1982-83 and as for the 1960s gov activities book I've only uploaded the Staghound image so far. @Buckshot06 Quite frankly, I have no idea given the state of things in Somalia. I'm hopeful that it will turn out well but I also somehow doubt Phase 1 will actually complete by 2030. Everything is contingent on how the SNA and Turk forces contend with Al-Shabaab as AU troops and others pack up. Highly doubt much progress will be made if AS makes its presence felt in the El Maan area once again. Little things like making sure the project is properly managed is a secondary concern to that haha. In general I have no clue where things are going in the country at all by the end of this decade...so I've decided not to place any expectations on major ventures like the planned spaceport or oil drilling (save for Turkey helping build up the SNA which is one of the few things I'm genuinely optimistic about). We will just have to wait and see how things develop over the next year or two. Whoopsawa (talk) 21:23, 28 August 2026 (UTC)

The buildup that's been going on the past year is much bigger than merely Gorgor, that is just the unit that gets the most media attention. There are other army formations and elements of the armed forces in general that they have been providing education, training and equipment to. The tanks, IFVs, artillery pieces and other pieces of equipment (much of which we haven't operated since 1991!) aren't just for Gorgor. You'd be surprised at the range of things I've heard Somalis being trained for in or by Turkey from sources in the gov. Many officers from across the army have gone to Turkey to receive a proper and standardized military education, which most I've come across speak highly of (as opposed to experiences in Uganda and the like or with Western forces who come to Somalia).

Whatever baggage and issues comes with Turkish involvement, I don't see it as all that different as the Soviets and the Somali military during the 1970s. And there are hardly better options on the table. My belief is they are the only foreign power in Somalia with the capacity (and the genuine interest to do so for the sake of their interests) to help the SNA professionalize the officer corps and return to days of rolling around in tank columns. Time will tell, could easily just end in a catastrophic collapse and the rise of the worlds first real deal Al-Qaeda state...but I choose to be optimistic about the SNA's prospects despite the dire state of things! Certainly there have been a lot of MRAPs transferred (some for Gorgor); some 15 M48s and M60s to guard the Warsheikh satellite launch site, no confirmation they're being used by Somali forces; any word on numbers and use of artillery?? And oh yes, whatever the issues with the Turks, they do seem to be the best option on the table right now, especially compared to separate training of 5,000 in this country and 5,000 in that country etc!! The full extent of military ties is not well documented both for reasons of OPSEC but mostly due to the usual poor level of military reporting in the region. Unless one actually knows someone in the army or gov they won't have any idea what exactly what is going on until well after. For example I know for a fact that the SNA has been operating the ACV-16 IFV in battle against AS since July (with good effect). As for the M48s/M60s, the actual tanks the crews still aren't fully trained and haven't been used in battle yet. Not sure about numbers but artillery pieces have absolutely been used the past few months...one can routinely find SNA soldiers posting videos of them lobbing shells at the front on social media.
