@TheSilksongPikmin: I glanced over the sources & there isn't really reliable coverage I can add through there, sorry! The 1991 birth year is currently cited to the PC Gamer article ("Toby Fox was almost two-and-a-half years old in March 1994"), the Engadget article cites the fever dream interview (which is already in the article, and is reliable itself) and the other two don't have news articles about Fox, unless I missed something in Japanese. Try to prioritize articles marked "generally reliable" in Cite Unseen that have unique info. WALKKKKK (talk) 00:44, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@WALKKKKK: I'm a bit confused on this response, I'm aware the Engadget article cites the fever dream article, but oftentimes articles like to additionally have a secondary source along with the direct interview source. As for the last two, why do they need to have news articles about him? They're reliable documentaries published, Nintendo Life for example is listed as a reliable source, I don't see why a documentary from them is any different to an article. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 10:10, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll circle back on the documentaries then, because I haven't seen them but doubt they'd have that much that currently available articles don't, I'm trying to prioritize news articles with an editorial staff first. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:21, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
For Nintendo Life, it is an impact of the effects the Mother series had on the featured people, and Fox is included. I feel this would be quite useful for the Influences section. But I do understand wanting to prioritize news articles; I just think especially this Nintendo Life documentary could be valuable. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:02, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's just that YouTube is marked as an "unreliable source". I know that in context it may be useful, but I want to be absolutely sure I can't cover what it has to say in a reliable article before resorting to citing it. WALKKKKK (talk) 17:05, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's actually of equal value to a reliable article. YouTube = unreliable is sort of a misconception and a small flaw of that Cite Unseen tool. Looking at the official description on the perennial sources list (WP:RSPYT): "Most videos on YouTube are anonymous, self-published, and unverifiable, and should not be used as a reference. Content uploaded from a verified official account, such as that of a news organization, may be treated as originating from the uploader and therefore inheriting their level of reliability."
This Nintendo Life documentary is from the Nintendo Life account, a reliable source, and produced/edited by Zion Grassl, one of its employees.
So it is of equal reliability to a Nintendo Life article that hypothetically was an interview with Fox. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:09, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I guess that clears it up. I still will circle back eventually, since the Nintendo Life documentary only has a couple minutes' worth of content with Fox in it, so I need to exhaust my sources first. WALKKKKK (talk) 17:15, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
For sure, that'd fine. Just wanted to bring it up since it felt fitting for that section. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:17, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry if i'm wrong, but hasn't Fox's birthdate and year been confirmed by this tweet? Monathephantom (talk) 17:18, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
He has confirmed his birthday, many, many, many, many, times. Monathephantom (talk) 17:20, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
That does also confirm it, but the current sourcing is stronger since it isn't solely tied to a primary source. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:20, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Monathephantom Just reminding you again to please work below the "Free space" section before changes are merged into the main text, you can copy any table/formatting there that you need to. If you have any prose fixes for existing sentences, you can copy those there as well. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:07, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for that. Most of the main changes I made were pretty small anyway Monathephantom (talk) 18:28, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I'm not worried about the Works section right now since I already have sources for pretty much all of them, I just need to clean up that table before I work on it. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:31, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@WALKKKKK Do you have any reliable sources that Toby Fox is currently composing for Hiveswap Act 3? I had to remove it because I couldn’t find any. Monathephantom (talk) 18:35, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Nope. Screen Rant is all. I'm not too stoked about it (the only secondary sources mentioning his involvement in Act 2 are unreliable too) but I think eventually I'll have to bite the bullet & include both. I didn't think the article would have 100% perfect sourcing quality, but a few gaps are fine as long as the biography stuff is all reliable. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:40, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do you think 2018-present for Deltarune could be swapped to 2016-present? The main current Deltarune game (not the scrapped original 2012 version) primarily started development in 2016, as seen with released early songs (eg. per Newsletter, Hammer of Justice, etc). We do have sources describing 2016 development such as this one from Automaton for Tenna.
Since 2012-2015 is there for Undertale, which counts the early development, do you think this could work for Deltarune? Alternatively Deltarune could just be 2012-present, if that early scrapped development is counted as the start of the Deltarune development, or even 2011-present. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:50, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin Deltarune began its main development I believe shortly after Undertale released, which is why most of the major characters has been developed in around 2015-2016 iirc. Monathephantom (talk) 18:52, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you find a concrete (non-tweet) source verifying the year development properly began, the year could be that. Toby already knew Deltarune was going to be the next game following Undertale's Kickstarter. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:52, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately I have looked and there isn't one, just scattered sources on specific things being developed in specific years, but no "Deltarune formally began development in X" I still don't like 2018-present though since sources do prove that is false via 2016 development information sources. If we don't want to make educated rough estimates based on sources, which I fully get, we should just do 2012-present or simply exclude the dates. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:09, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Timelines at this level are almost always chronological. If there isn't an established development start year, 2018 stays. Similarly, the 2018/2017 in the current mainspace article is done wrong. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:20, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I think this is something worth considering. "For the past 3 years I've been waking up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep because I've been thinking about the scenes that happen in the game" - Fox in his November 2018 Twitlonger, as cited to PC Gamer, 'Undertale creator answers questions about his mysterious new project'
I think 2012-2015: Undertale and 2015-present: Deltarune is the best choice now. It is understandable progression, removes the appearance of a career gap to those just skimming the headings, and we now have a reliable source quoting Fox specifically recalling (presumably late) 2015 as the start date of current Deltarune scene production.
2012-present is not ideal thinking about it more, as it gives off the impression that the 2012 version was not scrapped. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 15:30, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll look into sources that specify that he started work on Deltarune around/after finishing Undertale, since that's probably the most likely option. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:24, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin
2014. Problem solved! WALKKKKK (talk) 04:41, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, that works. Good job! TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 05:38, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
In other news, I've also switched the Career year formatting (for consistency and avoiding back-and-forthing between years), making that change useless... But hey, documentation! WALKKKKK (talk) 05:40, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin I've done some more work on the mainspace "Works" section, I'm gonna try prioritizing early life expansions & the Fangamer stuff in the draft today. WALKKKKK (talk) 20:15, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
For I Miss You, this source might be able to replace the primary source or be added in addition to it? Article title is very clickbait-y/SEO-bait, but the source has its own article, is cited a surprisingly high amount of times here, and has an About Us page. What do you think? TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 20:59, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Definitely not unfortunately, this is pretty much tabloid/SEO poisoned-tier. I wouldn't worry too much about the Bandcamp sources as long as they don't show up in the main text, but I'll whittle down the last few unknown links when the time comes. I'd argue nobody will really dispute the source quality as-is unless they want to be a pedant, but it'll improve more too. WALKKKKK (talk) 21:08, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@1timeuse75 I think that, ultimately, the article's presentation should be a combination of articles like Ninja Theory and Neil Druckmann. Toby's a one-man studio with his own library of work, so the sections in his article should reflect that. I decided to remove the Starmen.net section for now (fused into Early life), but outside of his career on Undertale & Deltarune, we should take into consideration how many other sections & sub-sections there should be to accurately be comprehensive, especially since this is a biography about a guy who was inspired by like 100 different guys & does 100 different projects. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:57, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well, as you know there is only two FA video gaming biographies to compare it to. Roberta Williams has a five sections (excluding subsection) one of which is "Retirement". Satoru Iwata has six sections (also excluding subsection). I think the difference between them and Fox is that Fox doesn't really have a "Legacy" (so far) so it can be made for by adding a section for his influences. So, how many sections is the bare minimum to be comprehensive? Like 5-6. So far there is five section (excluding subsection) Personally, i don't think this is a major problem. Also Neil Druckmann has seven section, however i think "Influences" section should be a sub-section under "Writing style". 1timeuse75 (talk) 19:12, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I just don't want them to be too close together, like Toby's philanthropy and Japanese stuff can both be entirely contained in their own sub-sections. I'm only really worried about "Other projects" and "Influences" here because they could spill out into several other sub-sections relatively quickly just based on how stuff is categorized & what other people say about him. You were right to point out the Starmen.net thing earlier, but that leaves me unsure about where to put Fangamer's history & stuff: maybe just "Fangamer"? I don't know. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:44, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hold up: I'm not even sure how Roberta Williams even succeeded as an Featured article. Theres 3 unreliable sources and violates MOS:LEADCITE as well. Monathephantom (talk) 19:46, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't worry about it. 2/3 of them are interviews with ACG, though the tweet about Ellie's naming after Ken/Roberta could/should be better-sourced. The article is very strong. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:48, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@1timeuse75 @Monathephantom @TheSilksongPikmin
Any thoughts on the current flow of the Undertale section? I think I'm missing a couple things, but it currently covers the start of development up until the first anniversary. I figure 4 reputable sources each for the "best games" and "best game soundtracks" are enough for now, but I can find more if needed. WALKKKKK (talk) 23:07, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've decided to cap it after the "30 Under 30" profile. Everything else is either fit for another section or isn't biographically relevant. There are probably a couple things which could be added (that I probably forgot) that anyone can feel free to point out, but stuff like the Sakurai/Sans thing will fall under the wider (now retitled) "Japanese game industry" section, which I'm debating making a main section above "Other projects", instead of a sub-section under it, due to how much could go in there. WALKKKKK (talk) 03:46, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Minor nitpick here: Per MOS:DUPLINK "Link a term at most once per major section," because of this I think Hussie name should be also linked. I can imagine some reading the article just to check the Undertale section and being very confused about how Hussie is. I would change "He began developing Undertale out of Hussie's basement while simultaneously working on the Homestuck soundtrack." to "He began developing Undertale out of Andrew Hussie's basement while simultaneously working on the Homestuck soundtrack." 1timeuse75 (talk) 09:03, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
"Japanese game industry" should be a sub-section under "Other projects" 1timeuse75 (talk) 09:04, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You'd be surprised how much there is to cover there if everything goes under its intended section. WALKKKKK (talk) 15:23, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Can you give an example? 1timeuse75 (talk) 15:24, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Gee, where do I start:
  • Fox's influences being almost entirely Japanese games
  • Fox's Japanese language learning
  • His work with Japanese translators, as well as his/others' gripes about localizing
  • Undertale's significant popularity in Japan that contributed to the Sakurai meeting
  • Toby inheriting Sakurai's former column for when he started to write Secret Base
  • The Secret Base articles/interviews themselves
  • Separate outlet interviews with most of the developers that directly influenced him
  • Japanese concert tours (I honestly don't know where else to hotlink it)
There's probably more but it could easily become a 400-500 word section on its own. For example, the "finished" (or close to) Philanthropy section is only 181 words. WALKKKKK (talk) 15:35, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I think we should first finish all the sections, and then worry about formatting/order. 1timeuse75 (talk) 15:39, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Me personally, I'm happy with:
  • (Top)
  • Early life
  • Career
    • Undertale (2015)
    • Deltarune (2018–present)
  • Japanese game industry
  • Other projects
    • Composing and voice acting
    • Philanthropy
  • Influences
    • Style
  • Personal life
  • Notes
  • References
    • Works cited
I think this is close to what'll be the final section order based on the work we've done. WALKKKKK (talk) 15:42, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Currently in talks with someone about a CC image for Temmie Chang. WALKKKKK (talk) 00:14, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@WALKKKKK Where would the Temmie Chang image be placed on the article? And would it be a good use for the article? Monathephantom (talk) 09:25, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
She was the other main contributor for Undertale and Toby worked on several of her games so I think it could go in either the "Undertale' or "Composing and voice acting" sections. WALKKKKK (talk) 15:21, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
This whole ordeal is making me hate how people in their 30's just leave their devices on all day and end up appearing online/active 24/7 when they aren't even touching it for hours on end. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:02, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Anyways, rant over, this was their final statement:
"To be blunt, I haven't any interest in engaging with whatever objective or project you are attempting to involve me or my videos with.
I should think that if one were looking for a headshot image or similar multimedia asset of a noteworthy individual than the easiest and most appropriate way to do so would be to ask that individual directly rather than looking for assests related to them from sources they aren't affliated with. If that individual isn't willing or doesn't wish to provide you with the assets you require, that should be the final word on the matter.
Please do not contact me or anyone in my social media ecosystems any further regarding this subject." WALKKKKK (talk) 18:21, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin I got rejected by a second potential lead, so I'm gonna bite the bullet and just email Temmie directly and see if she responds. If she says no, I'll probably just stop it there. Let me do it so she doesn't get separate requests, though. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:36, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Strange that you got rejected again. Hopefully Temmie herself responds, it's unlikely, but we'll see! Thank you for trying to contact people though, seems like I got pretty lucky with the owner of the 2016 Toby Fox video being so willing to assist in the VRT process and the such. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:40, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm actually gonna see if she'll respond on Bluesky or something, since she posts there somewhat regularly and uploads pictures of herself. Never used Bluesky so I don't know if it'll let me message her, but we'll see. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:42, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Her account has direct messages turned off, just checked. However, she has replied to people in the comments before, so you could try contacting through the comment section if you want to do it via Bluesky. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:45, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Can't be messaged there. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:46, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@WALKKKKK Hang on. This might be the last change we have to get a image, so let's not mess it up. This might just be my curiosity getting the better of me but I just have to know, what is the message you're sending exactly? If you've been rejected two times there is a chance that it might be the way you've written the message that might be putting people off. Pretend that I'm someone you're trying to contact, what would you send them? 1timeuse75 (talk) 18:49, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@1timeuse75 @TheSilksongPikmin So, here's the email I sent out to Temmie:
[Hi Temmie, this is a long shot so I'll try to keep things short. Myself and a few other Wikipedia editors are currently aiming to get Toby Fox's Wikipedia article to "Featured article" status, the site's highest quality grade (granted to 0.1% of articles). You can view our work (so far) on the main article, and on our ongoing draft.
Through that work, we've been able to get images licensed for free use through Creative Commons, and as we both wanted to add your picture to Toby's article & your own, as well as potentially improve your article to "Good article" (second highest grade) after Toby's is done.
The problem is we don't have any available images of you due to that requirement: images on Wikipedia mostly need to be licensed for free use on Creative Commons, because social media posts & YouTube video screencaps aren't allowed without permission.
My request is if you'd be willing to consent to providing us a picture of you for use on Wikipedia. The process is simple: you email back an image, the image is uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, you send out an email template consenting to its use, and that's it.
I've asked a couple people who've interviewed you for that permission, though was declined both times (I'll spare you their ranting), but they recommended I contact you. This isn't usually done for high-profile people because celebrities don't really reply to emails, people get permission second-hand.
If you're willing to help us out with this, please let me know! Note that this is completely optional. We're making really good progress on Toby's article and would love to see yours fixed up as well, but these images tend to be really hard to get permission for.
Thanks,
WALKKKKK]
There's some hyperlinks in there (i.e., "the main article", "our ongoing draft", "Creative Commons"), but this is as good (and accurate) of an email as I could get, pretty much the same tone as the other requests. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:06, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Overall I think this is excellently written, very respectful. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:12, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see that you added info on the 2018 Twitter tweets for Deltarune, which is notable, I agree. I have just discovered though that this 2021 article from TheGamer, which is described as "News posts and original content after August 2020 are considered generally reliable" here, mentions that the tweet series quoted W.D. Gaster in one message, with "VERY VERY INTERESTING". Do you think it could be notable to add a quick mention of this, considering it already has specific information like mentioning that the icon changed and it being in all caps?
For example, "On October 30, 2018, Fox asked "those who completed Undertale" to view the official Undertale Twitter account, which had its username and profile picture blacked out, in 24 hours; the account posted a series of tweets in all caps, quoting Undertale character W.D. Gaster in one tweet, hinting at an announcement [...]"
Would be cited to the current strong IGN source + TheGamer for the specific Gaster quote claim. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 21:10, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Additionally IGN verifies that the account said "VERY VERY INTERESTING", and Kotaku seperately years prior verified that this is a quote from W.D. Gaster here I could see a WP:SYNTH issue with relying on just the Kotaku source instead of TheGamer but it could be added as supporting verification. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 21:20, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm trying to avoid naming individual characters in both sections unless absolutely necessary. The closest I think I'll get is mentioning Sans becoming a Mii Fighter skin in the Japanese industry section, or something. Might be undue to mention Gaster. WALKKKKK (talk) 21:27, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see that, I just feel personally that the very specific info about the profile and username being blanked out is of the same weight if not less than quoting a character. In my opinion if this isn't due, I feel the section should be trimmed to remove this very specific info. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 21:29, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's more or less a stylistic choice vs. unconfirmed fan speculation. It might actually be a bad idea to give the Gaster theory any credibility in a featured BLP article, especially. WALKKKKK (talk) 21:32, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's not really speculation though, is it? It's just noting that it's a direct quote from Undertale which a source has done... not speculating it's in-character as Gaster.
But it's not a huge deal, I do understand wanting to keep plot/In-game details to a minimum in a biography. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 21:36, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I get it, but any sort of game-specific (not autobiographical) speculation just doesn't fit there. The closest thing I can think of is how Toby had Gaster / the Mystery Man removed from some products, which probably had some articles about it (not sure), but that's the closest thing and even that's a stretch. WALKKKKK (talk) 21:38, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Fair, this it is an article on Fox and not Deltarune after all. Still, and this is just my take, it feels a bit "incomplete" to go quite in-depth really on the "Twitter takeover", mentioning the blacked out icon, username, all-caps text, and even having a full quote from it, but not going into the key discussed thing connecting it to Undertale/Deltarune. It's up to you but I personally do think it would flow better and feel less like something is missing if the "Twitter takeover" specific information is trimmed, with us moving over this more detailed description of it to the Deltarune article (which currently surprisingly barely mentions it). TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 21:42, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also what do you think about replacing the Deltarune quote with this from the Twitlonger as cited to PC Gamer? Feels more representative of Fox himself as it's not him speaking in-character: "For the past 3 years I've been waking up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep because I've been thinking about the scenes that happen in the game. Even though so many details are still hazy, I really want to show you the things I've been thinking about. That's really my only reason for making this game. If I don't show you what I'm thinking, I'll lose my mind[.]" Could be trimmed. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 21:49, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That would actually be better, didn't think about it at first. Feel free to replace it the main text. WALKKKKK (talk) 21:58, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, done. That quote has been added, slightly trimmed out a bit for brevity.
What about the "takeover" trimming I brought up? This is what I was thinking of, moving over the current detailed wording over to the Deltarune article. "On October 30, 2018, Fox asked "those who completed Undertale" to view the official Undertale Twitter account in 24 hours. The next day, Fox unveiled a "survey program" available through the deltarune.com website, which was revealed to be Deltarune's first chapter. [...]" this way it doesn't mention specific details like the all-caps and blacked-out name and profile which are only really relevant when connecting the tweets to Deltarune lore, which, since this was decided isn't due for the article, sort of makes mentioning this stuff make it feel like the section is missing something. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 22:06, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll leave it alone for now because again, it's just stylizing. Tying that stylizing to anything in particular is what'll cause issues. I'll revisit it soon. WALKKKKK (talk) 22:30, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin BTW, you can edit my section in "Free space" if you want. I don't mind! 1timeuse75 (talk) 14:34, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Would it be possible to expand the Personal life section? I know Fox is very private but its very lacking. Monathephantom (talk) 15:52, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have made an expansion of the Deltarune section in the free space. What do you think of it? TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:08, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think its good! 1timeuse75 (talk) 19:10, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Just now did a small rework to its paragraph one since the original draft before I started making a rework seemed to have the implication that he created the concept for Deltarune in 2011. The interview actually says he "tried to make" it in 2012, only the dream was in 2011. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:15, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Did a small expansion draft for Influences, still for sure needs more info. Was able to find a 2020 Famitsu-published interview in which Fox states Mother influenced him the most out of everything, which is useful. It's not published online officially, but you can read an English translation here.
Weirdly, Cite Unseen is flagging it as an unreliable source, even though Famitsu is reliable and I formatted the whole thing correctly for Cite magazine...
Anyways, looking at your "Style" section draft, I think it's very good. "Influences" should probably end up becoming a sub-section of it at the bottom TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:33, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I still feel like the last paragraph about his music style can be expand some more though. 1timeuse75 (talk) 18:47, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That is true as well. I'm also working on a possible slight expansion to the early life using the 2023 EarthBound USA documentary.
Just 1-2 lines, I find it notable since he comments on making ROM hacks and his relationship with the EarthBound community. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:49, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Really solid expansion! Monathephantom (talk) 19:32, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin I've started finalizing FA-quality text for the eventual merge back into the main article, starting with "Early life". Good call on the PK Hack reference. WALKKKKK (talk) 04:14, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
After a discussion with others on the Discord server, I plan to add the foam image to "Personal life". I have reasons. WALKKKKK (talk) 05:11, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would love to as well, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find a source that says he did that in 2023 (even though primary-source-wise it is confirmed). Did you find something? If so, amazing work! TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 05:28, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's actually just a technicality. Personal life. His privacy. How he hides his face. His own statement about using it on Wikipedia. It's relevant and others agreed with the sentiment. The only roadblock is whether it'll hold up during an FAC image review. WALKKKKK (talk) 05:30, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
So we will primary-source it? If that's accepted, that would be great. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 05:32, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It'll hold on its own. Pictures are chosen for articles based on availability and relevancy, unless there's reason to believe a specific image is particularly notable. WALKKKKK (talk) 05:33, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
By the way, just circling back, are you a Discord user to begin with? Just asking since you haven't added me / joined the server. WALKKKKK (talk) 05:34, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I might join it later, I don't see a need to right now, talk page works just fine. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 05:35, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright. WALKKKKK (talk) 05:35, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Early life finalization looks really great by the way, great job with that. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 05:37, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
For Undertale (2015), I just now created a note that can be used to replace the citation needed tag.
Feel free to use it, it used references from the Awards table on the Undertale article. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:34, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Good timing, was just getting to that. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:36, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin I'm going to port over Undertale now. I need you to add whatever bits are gonna be missing (i.e., A Profound Waste of Time, and the Sans Mii) into a relevant section in the main article until I get to those sections. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:03, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Issue is Japanese game industry isn't a mainspace section. Where would Ultimate information go? Other projects?
A profound waste of time is easy to move though, no issues there. That'd be other projects. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:06, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can sneak whatever's needed into "Other projects" for now, I doubt anyone will care since we'll be finishing that within the next couple days anyway. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:09, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I moved them to other projects. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:09, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
There's a discord Server? Monathephantom (talk) 18:42, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Monathephantom, there is. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:44, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@1timeuse75 @TheSilksongPikmin I'm going to slow down on the Deltarune section for now and try to focus on other sections which haven't had anything finalized for them yet, but using the newsletter research & anything else which might be relevant that you can find (I'll do some searching if you're missing anything), could you try to draft the time gap between Halloween 2023 to Chapter 3+4's release? I can finish up from there. WALKKKKK (talk) 03:17, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Did a draft on that here. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 05:55, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Random question here: does the lead section also need to be rewritten, or is it fine as it is now? 1timeuse75 (talk) 15:44, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
We should probably focus on that later, but imo it should get some alterations.
I'm not the biggest fan of "In 2015, Fox created Undertale", kind of glosses over the years-long development. Simply "release" could work, though, to keep it short, but in addition to that I think his early life should get a summary in more ways than just the 2008 romhack and Homestuck. Probably something to do with Starman.net, as a quick mention in the sentence about the romhack. I think the origin of Deltarune deserves a mention, too, its a way to quickly showcase how long this game has existed in Fox's head. Something like "From 2018 onwards, Fox began releasing Chapters of Deltarune, a game whose idea spawned from a 2011 fever dream" or something of the sort. Conflicted on this, but I also think a quick mention of his privateness may fit in the lead as well? It's a notable part of his public image. I don't think adding this stuff would make the lead excessively long, either, FA-s have had long leads and this would be like 4 paragraphs at most. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 16:07, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Lead definitely needs expansion, but that's usually done last. If you really want to, you can fix up the stuff that's just wrong in the lead for now, and a proper lead rewrite will come later. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:07, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
For the lead, would you be fine with swapping "and launched charity livestreams featuring his games." to "and launched charity events related to his games."? He has only really done one charity stream, the 2025 Undertale one, even if it was throughout 2 days. And "streams" excludes the Spamton Sweepstakes, which is the other major notable charity event. Unless you're counting the Spamton Value Network finale, but that didn't have a charity component. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:30, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Go ahead. There won't be all that much more to add to the Philanthropy section. Travis Mulch (talk) 19:33, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Will do so. On that note, it's unfortunate that seemingly no sources reported on his 2020 anti-racism donations that he posted about on Twitter since it's often discussed among fans. Wasn't able to find anything reliable. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:36, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Remember where we came from. Same time, last year. Travis Mulch (talk) 19:49, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Wow, we really have improved the article by a gigantic amount. Excellent job from everyone here.
I didn't have cite unseen back then so I didn't realize how mixed the sourcing was. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:55, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thoughts on this draft section? It's a draft of a post-Halloween 2023 to present paragraph. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 15:40, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. Will read over it & combine. Still a couple things missing overall in the Deltarune section, but we'll get there. Travis Mulch (talk) 15:49, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just letting you know that I mainspaced the Newsletter paragraph, it was in finalized text of the draft, but you didn't move it over to Toby Fox after deleting the Finalized text section. Would you be ok with me moving my 2023-present paragraph to mainspace as well? TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:05, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I left your Deltarune draft in there because I hadn't added your fixes in yet, feel free to add your text & I'll review it in an eventual read-through, but make fixes yourself if needed. I want to start working on the other sections which haven't had much done with them. Though, I'll be working on them in tandem instead of in isolation. Travis Mulch (talk) 19:17, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I'll add that Halloween 2023-present text in for now, feel free to look over whenever. It's mainly because it looks very odd to have everything before then super polished, but then have the rest just be like 2 sentences that isn't even perfectly sourced. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:23, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, 3-5 was supposed to be separate & added all at once, I forgot. I'll have to find some better way to incorporate the early chapter work that doesn't mess with flow. Travis Mulch (talk) 19:24, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey everyone, I am currently in process of getting a photo of temmie Chang under creative commons by a photographer Monathephantom (talk) 16:44, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! Hope this works out well. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 16:47, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I hope you have better luck than I have. Still no word from Temmie herself on my end. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:58, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Gonna be honest, i really doubt Temmie would respond and heres why:
  • The DELTARUNE developers hardly respond to anything from fans. Usually this is because of NDAs. I don't think theyre allowed to appear in fancontent as well.
  • The point above is also made worse considering aside from Toby she's the most wellknown developer on Deltarune
I think the best stragedy to get a CC photo for Temmie is to do the same thing we did for Toby which is to try to find a photo of Temmie and try to get the author of the photo to release it under a free license. That is what i am trying to do. Monathephantom (talk) 19:08, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Unlike Toby, Temmie's been pretty receptive to fan content & public interactions. She actively posts on Bluesky, and responds to people there somewhat often. WP:FOAMSHOWER, and Fangamer's VRT licensing of the image, showed there's at least a clear link there that Toby was fine getting involved with Wikipedia. Remember that it's about licensing one image for a purpose not related to her current work. If she replies, it'll probably just take a while. WALKKKKK (talk) 19:13, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
For early life, do you think it would be good to add that he studied environmental science at Northeastern Univeristy? Currently it just says he graduated from there. This info is cited to MeriStation, 2018 (Spanish outlet), which is considered a reliable video game source. This is also a strong source in general; it mentions his birthdate down to the day, so the primary tweet source can be completely cut without issues. Also says that he managed the Starman.net forum for PK Hack until 2011, that could be added in the sentence about his use of PK Hack or right after it. It also discusses Homestuck, though only somewhat briefly. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 14:06, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
...Uuugh, I don't like that one because I know exactly where the image of Toby comes from, it's from a 2012 WordPress blog where it's briefly mentioned that he studies environmental science. The fact is that this probably steals from Wikipedia with a few bits of independently found info, just like Benoit-Gonin's book. I would not use this one. Travis Mulch (talk) 14:19, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for letting me know, I assumed it was good since the source is ranked as reliable. It won't be used. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 14:39, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Think this 2020 NPR interview, Make Love, Not War: Five Years Of 'Undertale' could be used for personal life? Fox is asked about "why it's important to make and write about games", "at a time when more and more people are fighting back" (referring to political issues), and gave a really insightful response. Source is reliable as well, of course:
"Fox seemed lost in thought — and then he said, "Sometimes it does feel really hard to be working on games and think like, 'What is the f*****g point of this when all of these horrible things are happening? Why am I working on games instead of out there fighting? I think entertainment can be like mental medicine, people need things to give them hope, and sometimes that can be games. As long as you are not ignoring what's going on in the world so that you get to do games, it's good." TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 20:02, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Likely better for Influences/Style. Travis Mulch (talk) 20:33, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I'll draft up something for that in Style then. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 20:36, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The Wikipolice have declared the middle initial can't be used. I'm not even gonna bother, but the opener's now [Robert "Toby" Fox (born October 11, 1991), formerly Radiation]. Travis Mulch (talk) 20:34, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
What was the reason given? Shouldn't it be included per MOS:FULLNAME? TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 20:38, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The main argument was WP:BLPPRIMARY. ...Don't think too hard about it. Travis Mulch (talk) 20:39, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Got it. Shouldn't "Robert Fox" get a citation now to the Union Leader article? It verifies it in the image. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 20:44, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Moving it now. Travis Mulch (talk) 20:45, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Topics of interest

[edit]

@Monathephantom @TheSilksongPikmin @1timeuse75
There are a few topics I wanna highlight but are really scattered between articles, if anyone's interested:

  • 1) Toby's involvement with Fangamer:
    • This goes back so long, I'm probably gonna make a dedicated section. For example, read the first few paragraphs in the “It’s Alive!” The Rise of Indie Games and Their Toys section of this article. Literally such a funny thing for DYK that I wish that was the original hook. There's actually a lot of coverage for this stuff in both English and Japanese.
  • 2) Proper "influences" attribution:
    • There are a ton of articles where Toby has said "xx inspired xx" repeatedly, and I need a way to make it concise and explanatory, but not repeat the same game/person names over and over.
  • 3) His ties to other developers:
    • Toby has done interviews with a LOT of the people who influenced his work, especially in Japanese. If there's a given influence, find out who developed it, and there's a strong chance Toby will have interviewed that person.
  • 4) Finding DELTARUNE development/newsletter info in reliable sources:
    • One of my biggest concerns is having to cite the newsletter or his Twitter as a primary source over and over, and I want to avoid that as much as possible. If there's news coverage for stuff that came from the news letter that'd be relevant for a biography, add it.

We're nearing the length of the original article and we've just started scratching the surface here. Feel free to contribute anything that isn't currently in the article, even if it's detached from what's in it now, and we'll shape it as we go! WALKKKKK (talk) 20:26, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

On No. 4; this is certainly important. I've come across a few reliable sources reporting on specific Newsletters, so this is certainly possible.
Sometime soon I'll try to post here a list of every newsletter (or every reported-on one) + 1 reliable source discussing the contents.
TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 12:20, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
For example since this is one I easily recall, this is Nintendo Life reporting on ISSUE 3 - Summer 2023. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 12:23, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's done! Here is a list on reliable sources reporting on all Deltarune updates 2020-2026. Hope it is of use! TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 16:10, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TheSilksongPikmin: Great work! Will definitely use these when I start writing the section. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:31, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Merging updates

[edit]

Merged current "Early life", "Philanthropy" and "Works -> Video games" sections into mainspace. WALKKKKK (talk) 22:50, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Removed "Works" section entirely from the draft as I've pretty much finished the section in mainspace, with a few exceptions. WALKKKKK (talk) 20:10, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Light readthrough comments

[edit]

Hello, I was asked to leave some comments on here by @WALKKKKK. Giving the draft here a light glance, here's what I could notice in a brief read through.

-"It's OK if people don't like the game. I don't care." and further hoping the game would have an "overall good effect on the world"." Would rephrase this, perhaps just remove the and from "and further hoping..."?

-"though abandoned development the next year before creating a single room" Perhaps simplify this for non-gamers? Something like "before much work could be done" or "before any in-game areas could be constructed" or something similar. Room is a bit vague if you don't play at all, I feel, but it might just be me on that.

-Perhaps include some kind of statement about the progress currently made on Deltarune (And/or its reception) in the Deltarune section? Would help with conveying how its come along since 2020 and its overall influence.

-The "Japanese game industry" section at present seems a bit disjointed; seems there's very little sources about his overall relation to the industry and moreso just any time he's interacted with an industry professional in Japan. The localization bits I feel may not be super relevant to the overall Fox article, but otherwise may be better off at the Undertale section. The Japanese speaking (Which I assume other coverage exists on?) feels like it would be better in personal life. The Secret Base bits feels like it'd be more relevant to his career section (Which is notably lacking in any other career work he's done, such as his work on the Pokemon series)

-On the point of personal life, his philanthrophy section feels more fitting there, and would be more in line with other BLPs which tend to keep it in personal life as well. The other bits of other projects feel better off in the career section, like with the above Pokemon bits. Similarly, I feel influences may be better off as a subsection of personal life given it's largely to do with his own life experiences.

I have not read through any of the other user suggestions, just what's currently in the body. I feel this could do with some reorganization of content at present, though I felt the prose was fine at a glance (Others more into the FA sphere may have more to say on that though, idk). Hopefully this helps with y'all's goals. Wishing you the best of luck! Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 22:52, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Belated message to thank you for the proofreading, will take note of this while doing further work! WALKKKKK (talk) 18:21, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Returning to the project

[edit]

Hi everyone, I'm sincerely sorry for disappearing for over a week out of nowhere, I had real-life obligations to take care of. I unfortunately wasn't able to work on anything new while away, but I plan to return to editing tonight. Thanks for your patience & good work on everyone else's part. Looking forward to contribute again. WALKKKKK (talk) 17:51, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely no issues at all, real-life is more important than some Wikipedia draft!
Thank you for all the work you have done on the article. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 19:31, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Comments from Octave

[edit]

Responding to a ping on my talk. Before I start @WALKKKKK, exactly which section would you like me to review? It seems the sandbox has changed since you first messaged me. UpTheOctave!  8va? 21:17, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@UpTheOctave!: Yeah, sorry about that. So the finalized sections are "Early life" and "Undertale (2015)", which I consider to be FAC-ready with some potential for minor additions. I'd also like for you to review what me (in the main text) and @TheSilksongPikmin (in their section) have for "Deltarune (2018-present)", since that's the next section to be finalized. Everything else is up to you, there are unfinished/WIP sections that, if anything, could use proofreading so I know what to fix, as the sourcing's accurate. WALKKKKK (talk) 00:17, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Lead:
  • "He is best known for the role-playing video games Undertale and Deltarune." – "best known for creating" instead.
  • First sentence in para two is too long, and needs splitting.
  • "EarthBound fan site" and "webcomic Homestuck" are SEAOFBLUE.
  • "currently available" is a no-no per MOS:ASOF, use "as of [date]" instead.
Early life:
  • "role-playing video game EarthBound" is another SEAOFBLUE.
  • "During church service around age five, he often drew fictional stage layouts based on the Mega Man X series." – "Around age five, he often drew fictional stage layouts based on the Mega Man X series during church services" better flow.
  • "RPG Maker 2000—a program used to develop RPGs" – I'd say it's pretty obvious that RPG Maker makes RPGs.
  • "additionally" is used several times, try to vary with synonyms.
  • Do we know anything else about his time at university?
Career:
  • Third paragraph has repetitive constructions like "Undertale... Undertale... Undertale" at the start of sentences. Please vary structure.
  • I think the MatPat and the Pope factoid is verging on trivia here; much more suited to the game's article.
  • "the world has been really tough for everybody recently," – I'm guessing this refers to COVID-19, but I'd make it explicit if we can.
Personal life:
  • Do we really have to have the foam image??
Unsorted sections:
  • " Fox contacted Fangamer, whose founder was close friends with Fox, that told him to work with 8-4, Ltd" – "who told him to work" instead.
  • Live a Live -> Live A Live.
  • "video game magazine Famitsu" and "fan game Undertale Yellow" are both SEAOFBLUEs.
1timeuse75:
  • "Super Nintendo J-RPGs" is a SEAOFBLUE.
  • "His games has been described" – the quote talks about a singular game.
  • "In Undertale, critics have seen it as a critique of the" – "Critics have seen Undertale as a critique of the..."
  • "Essayist Sean Travers in the Journal of Popular Culture cited its progressive change in tone and disturbing imagery" – presumably this mainly refers to a Genocide run?
References (both sections):
  • I would question the following sources at FAC, assuming they are not HQRS: PinkNews, Polygon (post 2025)
UpTheOctave!  8va? 12:55, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help! I'm gonna be implementing most of these fixes, but I'll say that the SOB is pretty much unavoidable for things like "(genre) (medium)" without awkward re-phrasing. I wanted to avoid jargon too early (link/explain format first -> go into info) because for someone like Toby Fox, it's bound to happen, so I thought it better to generalize for someone who doesn't play video games, but can click links.
Some other things:
1) Time at university: No reliable documentation. There's a book by Corentin Benoit-Gonin that says when he graduated and what he took, but it's unusable as a source because it blatantly copies things from Wikipedia and many, many assorted tidbits which come from a YouTube video or Twitter post, or something. I took to calling it "bookslop".
2) Foam image: I mean, it's there because it's CC/VRT-approved, tucked away in the bottom, relevant to the topic, and really small (instead of the infobox) I don't think available images get policed like that, but I'll see how someone feels at an image review. Travis Mulch (talk) 14:12, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Chapter 2 release error

[edit]

@WALKKKKK The recent finalized text for Deltarune (2018-present) has a major error.

Specifically "Though Fox initially stated he felt "very confident" Chapter 2 would release by the end of 2020,". It is cited to PC Gamer, but they made an incorrect report. Per the primary source and Rock Paper Shotgun, Fox is discussing Chapter 2 being complete content-wise, nothing on release. Surprised PC Gamer would publish such an error. This is the exact quote:

"A lot of progress has been made since that time. I believe we can complete this chapter, content-wise, before the end of the year (not accounting for translation, bugtesting, and porting)," he writes.

"I feel very confident. And the strange thing is, even though we ended up using the original engine, I don't regret the lost time, either. Not only was I still busy designing the game, but during that long period, I was able to think of many ideas that make the game's story and characters better."

Damn, so they actually got that wrong? I'll just omit that part about 2020 entirely. WALKKKKK (talk) 14:25, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also I personally find it notable to add the info about him saying he "completed readable outlines for every chapter in the game".
It's relevant for the overall development of Deltarune. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 14:40, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have to, like, congregate the details about him saying "I did this 10 years ago, actually" somewhere, but not sure where. WALKKKKK (talk) 14:42, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do you think something like this could work, added as a final line for paragraph 1?:
"Following the release of Undertale, he continued work on Deltarune, including aspects past its first chapter, composing tracks, (GamesRadar+ [1]; Siliconera) creating characters, (GamesRadar+ [2]) and writing out the plot; these elements were ultimately released to the public many years later. (GamesRadar+ [1])" TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:00, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I know I'm gonna have to get different sources accordingly, but the basics of what I want, is something like "Fox began creating concepts for the game far/years in advance, including [insert concepts and stuff...]" and it can go at the end of paragraph one, since going from Undertale's release -> Chapter 1's release is a big time skip. But note that specific in-game details shouldn't be delved too hard into. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:14, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, feel free to add drafts of that in my draft. That does seem to be a good format. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:17, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Phrasing fixes

[edit]

@1timeuse75 @TheSilksongPikmin: I've noticed my writing's gotten a bit sloppy in the completed Deltarune Chapters 1/2 text, and I wanted to know if you two could contribute phrasing fixes that still align with what the sources say. For example, I feel I use words like "stated", "additionally", "though", and "release" more than necessary. If you're able to fix up the completed text (Early life through Deltarune Chapters 1/2, where needed), that'd be great. Feel free to just do it in the mainspace article. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:32, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Did some work on that. Also was checking the refs, saying he confirmed seven Chapters is accepted information due to the Chapter select screen, but the Polygon citation says "Seven chapters in total are expected, according to the Deltarune website at the time of publication."; this just isn't true. I assume they meant the Deltarune chapter select screen though, but for verification's sake do you think it's fine, or should we seek alternative referencing? Weird how outlets keep making Deltarune errors... TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:11, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Minor phrasing fix, then: "Fox confirmed that Chapters 3–5 would be made available simultaneously as paid release; Deltarune would ultimately span seven chapters." WALKKKKK (talk) 17:18, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That works, and for the ref for seven Chapters, you can use the 2025 Game Informer interview which paraphrases him as saying the game will have seven Chapters. Can't seem to find a 2021 source that correctly says the info is from the Chapter Select screen, unfortunately. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:22, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Actually, if you want to be as clear as possible, you could instead do something like "[...] paid release; the game's menu listed seven total chapters".
It's cited to IGN, 2024, but since there wasn't any release between 2022-2024, it can work. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:24, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think the fact that secondary news coverage states there's seven alone is enough, and it doesn't need to be specified why or where that was found, especially since we haven't focused on in-game details. WALKKKKK (talk) 17:34, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Foam

[edit]

Consensus in the Discord server is that the foam photo should be allowed to stand, in a specific context, in Personal life. WALKKKKK (talk) 02:45, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Reid Young recounted that the "smoke a cigarette" thing didn't work last year, contrary to Nintendo Life.

[edit]

@WALKKKKK

Per the UNDERALE 10th Anniversary Stream, Day 1 (September 21, 2025): relevant portion of the stream starts here.

Specifically, in the stream he says "I don't think she let you go, because you said that", referring to the cigarette thing. Toby Fox doesn't correct him, though...

Do we assume Young just forgot something from over 15 years ago and follow reliable reporting, or reconsider this text? TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 17:19, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

...That's so weird?? He literally told it to Nintendo Life, so I don't know why he'd contradict himself, but I'd have to chalk this one up to "he's misremembering something from 20 years ago" because he explicitly says I don't think and Toby doesn't have time to correct him either because he had to talk about Temmie. I'd leave it alone. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:05, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, got it, glad it can be kept since it is a very nice anecdote. It makes sense, just thought it was worth bringing up since was quite odd. But yeah, you're right, also it's unlikely Nintendo Life did a false report of his words or anything. TheSilksongPikmin (talk | contribs) 18:54, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

GTC nomination

[edit]

@1timeuse75 @TheSilksongPikmin I've nominated Undertale (the topic with Undertale, Toby Fox and Sans (Undertale) as a Good topic candidate. It's obvious Deltarune's a long way off and there aren't really other main characters with the staying power for GA, so I figured I'd submit it. But obviously please don't vote on the nomination yourselves. WALKKKKK (talk) 18:56, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nope. That was a mistake. I wrote about the scope pretty poorly. Maybe some other time. Travis Mulch (talk) 21:38, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead and opposed it, Undertale Soundtrack should be GA or FA and the undertale concerts lists should be FL. Unfortunately for the latter i've put it on hold as i've been busy lately to deal with a FL nom. Monathephantom (talk) 01:43, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's already withdrawn. I'm just waiting for FGTC to remove it. At the minimum the soundtrack could be GA to go alongside Megalovania, but getting anyone other than Sans to GA is hopeless so I don't know why there was argument about Deltarune's ties. "List of Undertale characters" should be standalone & have the main characters merged in there, the current combined Undertale/Deltarune list is broken as hell. Travis Mulch (talk) 01:44, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll just fail the gt myself sicne you already withdrawn. Also, once the undertale concert article is in FL, you could probably get the soundtrack article to GA and get a topic there. Monathephantom (talk) 01:50, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
...I really don't think you should be doing that yourself instead of the coordinators... Travis Mulch (talk) 02:02, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
