Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Mach61 was:
This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.

Your submission at Articles for creation: Bars Mitzvah (March 29)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by TheChineseGroundnut was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of music-related topics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Fails WP:NMUSIC.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

AOTY: Death of slim shady

[edit]

if they have a critics section it should be counted, especially when you click on the critics there is a list (Telegraph, Sputnik, etc) MusicGene (talk) 17:26, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Other than that aoty is completely dependent on users just like wikipedia, how we list critical reception, we just don't make our own music aggregator Spinmeisters (talk) 21:41, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Correct. but considering that they are a legitimate critic reviewed website (like MC) they are able to be used. If you look at the cite it shows "Critics Score" then if you click on it it lists the same amount of legitimate critic reviews as MC. MusicGene (talk) 21:48, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
i can't really deny your claim, though metacritic's sole purpose is to aggregate a variety of entertainment while aoty is driven by a community, essentially a free dictionary [that anyone can edit] of every release known to man, you can find the most obscure albums contributed by a single person. Whether aoty is notable or not, we don't normally cite sources that anyone can edit, see Wikipedia:Citing Wikipedia and tertiary sources. Spinmeisters (talk) 22:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
not sure how you can edit critics reviews/ratings on AOTY cause I'm on the site now and its not allowing me to do any of that MusicGene (talk) 22:51, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
On the site you can add critic scores, all while featuring their own aggregator. That being said aoty is just a huge collection of any music release notable or not that anyone can add to. Spinmeisters (talk) 23:09, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: Class of 95 (December 22)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Significa liberdade was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of music-related topics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
At present, you have one source that establishes notability, which is what we use to determine which articles should be on Wikipedia. To establish notability, the source needs to be reliable and independent, and have significant coverage of the subject. The RapReviews source does that. Can you find 1-2 more reviews?
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Passing mentions in articles do not meet the guidelines for significant coverage; this article still requires more sources before it can be published. More reviews would work great.

Your "Songs" section split the information about the songs in half. Why have half of the song information under "Composition" and half under "Songs"? It makes no sense. hbent (talk) 15:10, 11 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

My thought process was that regarding the origins of the songs like writing and recording would go under the background and history section I made. I separated the other songs section because it was about them musically, thus going under composition. I don’t think them being together would all fit into one section. What do you recommend? Spinmeisters (talk) 22:59, 11 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Regarding changing all of the album dates to remove the start date template, I initially changed it due to it showing the album's year as "160" in the chronology at the time, which seems to have been fixed a day later. Spinmeisters (talk) 21:40, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Ordinary World Original Version.jpeg

[edit]
Notice

The file File:Ordinary World Original Version.jpeg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Screenshot of wedding band in original cut of music video inadequately supported by critical commentary. Not proven contextually significant to the song or subject of discussion in question.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  The comment the reviewer left was:
This is a ways there to meeting notability, but WP:NALBUM suggests multiple sources covering the subject matter in detail. I'm concerned that the only source that critically has covered this album is RapReviews. Are there other sources out there that have evaluated the album? WP:A/S and its linked search engine is a good resource to hunt for more sources.

Purple

[edit]

Hey Spinmeisters. Thanks for your recent edits on Purple but don't assume sources are unreliable. Classic Rock Review and Sydney Unleashed are used on many articles. I found this on the former's reliability. There's no conclusion on Sydney Unleashed, but it's used on Jack & Diane, a former Good Article nominee, With no discussion on Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, it seems both sources are reliable. CleoCat16 (talk) 22:23, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'm only familiar with established sources, my mistake. It seems that CRR is reliable based on what you provided, but I don't know about Sydney Unleashed. I noticed that you can actually pay to have your own article published there . I wouldn't consider a source like that in any way reliable. Spinmeisters (talk) 05:05, 15 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:BillieJeanUK.jpg

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:BillieJeanUK.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Deftones

[edit]

I give you a heartfelt thank you for your work on Deftones' singles, as an avid fan and the original GA nominator for the band's biography. (It's seen better days, but it's not in the worst of shape.) I just wanted to ask out of curiosity, do you plan on eventually righting the great wrong that led to "Sextape" getting redirected? I would be very excited at the thought of one of the band's de facto greatest successes post-nu metal era finally getting the recognition it deserves. mftp dan oops 01:42, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I have always been interested in creating an article for "Sextape", which I never knew existed at one point until now because I never checked. What's holding me back is that i'm not sure there's enough reliable coverage to build a solid article around it, despite it being one of their biggest songs today. It's clearly notable, those certifications alone make that obvious, but without sufficient sources it's hard to do it justice. By comparison, a song like "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" has relatively strong coverage that would make expansion much more straightforward (though it hasn't been done yet). In general, whenever I see a song with enough sourcing potential, i'm more than likely to create an article for it / expand it. Spinmeisters (talk) 03:23, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'd happily help gather what sources I can; I'm not always the best at that but last I looked I was able to scrape up a few to start with. mftp dan oops 04:43, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Bring On the Psychics moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Bring On the Psychics. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because it is promotional and reads like an advertisement and The references are almost all PR churnalism. This shoudl not have been moved to mainspace, and I am returning it to draft. I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 08:29, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I understand your concerns, but I think it was premature to move it back to draft only a few hours after the album's release, as there was very little opportunity for independent reviews to be published and incorporated into the article while it remained in mainspace. As of writing this, I have already found a few critical reviews that establish the album's notability aside from promotional material, which I have added. Because those reviews appeared so soon after the release, I feel the article may have been returned to draft before it had a reasonable chance to be improved with the kinds of sources you were looking for. From what I have seen in articles for upcoming projects already in the mainspace, notability can be established if there is enough prerelease coverage by reliable sources (an example I looked to while making my draft was the article for Paul McCartney's most recent album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which was in the mainspace for two whole months before it was released. But that may be because it's an album by one of the most acclaimed artists of all time guaranteed to top the charts). Spinmeisters (talk) 15:50, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Release date for "Glory Box"

[edit]

I am very, very puzzled by this... I never heard of this single being released in September 1994, and it doesn't explain why it didn't chart until four months later. Not going to change it, because you have a reliable source, but I'm definitely wondering if the single was pulled at the last minute and then properly released in January 1995. I need to investigate this... Richard3120 (talk) 23:37, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I checked the Music Week archives and found evidence showing a January 1995 release. In the 7 January 1995 issue on page 10/28, it states: "Bristol duo Portishead (pictured) have double reason for celebration this week with the release of their new single 'Glory Box' and the album 'Dummy' going silver with sales of more than 60,000." This aligns with the song's UK chart history rather than the 26 September 1994 release date. I would also like to point out that the single was featured in Music Week's market preview three times in 1994, the first in the 24 September issue, second in 8 October, and third in 12 November. I don't know if this would also suggest that the single release kept getting delayed alongside its first charting in January 1995. Spinmeisters (talk) 01:35, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I know... I'm not saying you're wrong, because clearly some version of the song charted in the Record Mirror Club Chart in September 1994, and you have found reviews from the same month. But all these reviews seem to be for some dance remix of the song... I'm wondering if in September there were some vinyl remixes sent out to DJs for playing in clubs (very common practice), but the actual single was not made commercially available at that time. Then there seem to have been a few reviews in November... perhaps this is when the single was slated to come out, but was then pulled when Go Beat realised it was probably get lost in the Christmas rush, and they decided to wait until after Christmas instead. Another thing that seems strange to me is the video coming out in November... why would you put out a promo video if you had no product to promote at the time?
I'm just guessing here, because it's all very odd... I'm a Brit, and I was 24 at the time, so I was listening to music a lot. Despite not being big hits, I remember both "Numb" and "Sour Times" getting a lot of airplay and attention on the more alternative shows on BBC Radio 1... but I definitely don't remember hearing "Glory Box" being played until January 1995. I've also been checking the music press from that time – the original release of "Sour Times" was favourably reviewed end of July/beginning of August in Music Week, NME (full page advert for the single as well) and Melody Maker (who made it their single of the week), and everyone went crazy over Dummy when it was released at the end of August. So you would have thought that if "Glory Box" came out the following month, there would have been a lot of attention from the same magazines. And yet... absolutely nothing.
The only thing I can say with certainty is that "Glory Box" was released on 2 January 1995... reviews of the single in the music press and the chart dates in various countries confirm this. What I can't say is whether it had already been released in some format back in 1994. Richard3120 (talk) 03:04, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The "Glory Box" single featured remixes or other versions of the song as its B-side ("Toy Box", "Scorn", "Sheared Box") if you didn't know already, so those are probably the mixes that sources are referring to. I also noticed that the song charted in the Record Mirror Club Chart in the 24 September issue as "Glory Box (mixes)", the same week of the supposed commercial release. Whether or not the commercial release date of 26 September is correct, the entry on the chart shows that a previous type of single was available, but not commercially, as that would be January 1995. On that same chart, what I didn't notice initially was that there is a key for the charted songs that indicates if an entry is a "highest climber" (triangle) or "promo/white label" (star). Some entries have no symbols. The Record Mirror Club Chart indicated "Glory Box (mixes)" as a "promo/white label", showing that there was definitely a promotional/white label single out in 1994. I hope that answers your questions. Spinmeisters (talk) 04:03, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think you've confirmed my suspicions... that the September 1994 release of the song was just a white label, not an official release, and the single didn't come out officially until January 1995. I'm not going to change anything on the article right now because we don't have enough to confirm this, but maybe we should think about adding a line saying that the single was released (again?) in January, which would explain the 1995 chart dates to the casual reader. Thanks for your help and investigation. Richard3120 (talk) 17:51, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
