Hello! I see that you have been assigned as my mentor, and I'm very happy to have your guidance. I am a new editor with a Conflict of Interest (COI). I work for the communications agency THREESIXTY, and we represent Debenhams Group. I have already placed my mandatory paid editing disclosure on my user page in line with WP:PAID. The current Debenhams Group article is heavily outdated. For example, it still lists Carol Kane as the Chief Executive in the text, whereas Dan Finley was appointed as Group CEO back on 1 November 2024. Because of my COI, can I edit the article directly? Live and learn, but this image might pass WP:NFCC. It's a publicity photo for an unaired pilot with an agency to credit for copyright and WP:RS attesting to the importance of the eye patch's iconography. Any criticisms or feedback welcome. The primary problem with the article you linked is the one stated on the top: referencing issues. The DVD, Awards, and Synopsis sections are entirely unsourced. The first two sentences of the production section are unsourced, too. (The lead doesn't need references, as you may know.) The sources that are used seem to be of a decent quality, even a couple books which is rare for this kind of article.

I'm no expert on images on Wikipedia— I would suggest asking at the Teahouse where you'll find someone with the requisite knowledge.

Thanks for pointing me to the Teahouse. As far as the sourcing goes, I did pick up that a claim cited further down doesn't need a citation in the lead. The DVD information is where I hit a dead end. The best I could find was a source stating that the remake was out of print while the original remained in circulation on streaming, DVD, and in fan uploads on YouTube. I might have to clean house.

You mentioned the synopsis section. I don't think synopses need citations, do they? It mostly seems to be a matter of preference on how much detail to include. Cedarshadow (talk) 02:56, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

Hah! I'm happy to learn together. There is evidence in the secondary sources of rights issues with the music. It's pretty thin and I don't want to WP:SYNTH the DVD claim. It's probably in some trade publication somewhere... which would actually favor removal if there's no evidence in scholarship or the many newspaper mentions. Thank you again for your help! Just to follow up: The teahouse says one fair use image per article. It was a bit condescending to be told the image belongs to someone else in a space for newcomers. @Cedarshadow, I'm sorry to hear that. We do ask all our editors to be friendly and not to bite, so it's disappointing that some of our pointpeople for newcomer queries were a little short with you. In fairness, they surely go through many questions per day and, having been on Wikipedia for several years, are liable to assuming people know much more about Wikipedia's policies than is the case.

It looks like you may have intended to do that but have edited your user page instead. User pages are for internal Wikipedia use to identify yourself as an editor. See mine here, for example. Wikiprojects are communities of editors interested in collaborating around a given topic. I am part of Wikiproject Architecture and Wikiproject Peru, for example. You can look through a full directory of Wikiprojects here. Looking at your recent edits, it looks like "your country" might be Singapore? You might find Wikiproject Singapore particularly interesting. Wikiprojects will generally have tasks that you can help out with, such as this one for WP Singapore. Hey @ThineCyberCat, thanks for your questions. I'm doing well; I hope you are, too.

Fandom, which I assume you're alluding to, was founded by the same guy as Wikipedia and also shares Wikitext, the markup language, so the "technical editing" as you refer to it should be similar if not identical. I don't have much experience on Fandom. In my experience, though, we do have more binding policies, particularly around notability, verifiability, and our Manual of Style. I recommend you skim through these policies before you get too deep into editing. You may also find this essay useful in gauging tone, but really the best way to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's tone is to just read a bunch of articles!

Editing wars can definitely occur, but they are strictly restricted on Wikipedia (through the three revert rule; see previous link), allowing participating parties to be sanctioned and thus putting a stop to them. Sometimes, of course, they go unreported or under the radar, in which case it's everyone's responsibility to take action if they encounter it.

There are some subjects more prone to edit warring (and other disruptive editing) than others, and they often receive additional restrictions or contentious topics status.

Hello @DnieperSniper, thank you for reaching out. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this question. Our policy on notability states that:

Notability is a property of a subject and not of a Wikipedia article. If the topic has not been covered outside of Wikipedia, no amount of improvement to the Wikipedia content will suddenly make the topic notable.

Looking specifically to the notability guideline for geographic features under "engineered constructs" :

Buildings, including private residences, transportation facilities and commercial developments, may be notable as a result of their historic, social, economic, or architectural importance, but they require significant in-depth coverage by reliable, third-party sources to establish notability.

So if you can find "in-depth coverage by reliable, third-party sources" of this roadblock then you can establish notability. I suggest reading through the above-linked policies to understand what some of these terms mean. A quick Google search on my part, though, suggests you might find it hard relying only on online English sources. Perhaps there are some Italian, Austrian, or Hungarian sources that could do the trick? Or a book? You would know best.

Question regarding COI on Lulu.com talk page

I’m new to contributing to Wikipedia and was hoping you might be able to offer some guidance on the proper process for a COI edit request.

I'm an employee of Lulu.com and have disclosed that affiliation on my user page. Because of the COI, I’ve avoided directly editing the Lulu.com Wikipedia page and instead posted suggested changes with third-party sources on the Talk page about two weeks ago.

The request hasn’t received a response yet and I’m not sure whether I should simply continue waiting or whether there’s another appropriate way to ask uninvolved editors to review. I want to make sure I have an understanding of general review timelines (understanding that Wikipedia is a community of volunteers) and expectations rather than inadvertently being too persistent.

If you have any advice on the appropriate next step or whether I should just continue to be patient, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Hello @Sberman-lulu, thanks for reaching out and for your investment in following Wikipedia's guidelines. It's evident you have some familiarity with the corpus which can't be said of everyone with a COI!

The steps you have taken are the correct ones. Unfortunately, edit requests often sit idle for a while and—to be clear from the beginning—many never receive a response. You will likely be unsatisfied with how long it takes and find it doesn't quite meet the corporate timelines you might be used to.

The article you're interested in does have editors who are interested in the topic, you can tell by the activity (admittedly quite old) on the talk page and more than a hundred Wikipedians following the page (i.e. getting updates on new edits), which may work in your favor. I suggest reaching out to relevant Wikiprojects to see if they might want to look over your suggestions (you can find the relevant ones at the top of the talk page. "Companies" and "Books" might be your best bets) to speed things up.

That said, I would give some feedback on your suggestion itself. The lead of an article should not contain information not elsewhere included in the article's body, and ideally should not have any references (because claims are cited in the body), so introducing new information into the lead is not going to be a suggestion that will be accepted. You might want to write a suggestion for a "corporate governance" section or something like that and then incorporate the key details into the lead. This is more amorphous, but your text does not read like what we expect from a Wikipedia article. Saying that someone was president for "many" years is hazy and would benefit from quantification. That a CEO switch happened on the company's twentieth anniversary or the former CEO's new role is not information that belongs in the article, much less in the lead.

The first thing to confirm before writing an article is that you don't have a Conflict of Interest. If you have any relation to the above website you likely have a conflict of interest which will have to be declared before moving forward. You can see how to take those steps here.

If you have a COI, you can request that an article be added after checking that it meets our notability guideline for web content. If you don't have a COI, you can create a draft article in your sandbox that I would be happy to look over.

It sounds like you might be referring to the New Pages Patrol. This is a permission granted to a select group of users who have proven themselves to be familiar with Wikipedia's policies and are trusted with patrolling duties. There are just around a thousand new pages patrollers—which is to say, not very many. I myself am not a patroller.

I suggest you read the guideline here which lists the criteria. Because the criteria is so extensive (i.e. requires an established presence on Wikipedia) I would instead suggest finding an article that you're interested in and could use some improving and taking initiative to do so. I further suggest checking out this primer on editing on Wikipedia to avoid some of those rookie mistakes.
