We need to talk

[edit]

Greetings Myles, I'm here to say a few words. Firstly, I've been thinking about my pBlock on Wikipedia, and I think I know what really happened out there. I happened to look back at the Deacon Vorbis thread, and I know I shouldn't have asked Bushranger to un-archive it. My opinion was just this: the thread just needed to wrap up with a consensus. I couldn't believe it actually backfired on us. Deacon insisted in bad faith that I didn't get the outcome I wanted, which was of course abrupt. Deacon wasn't the only one who got mad at me for doing this; there were some other people in the thread who turned their guns on me and derail from the actual concern of the thread entirely. I don't think this is even interesting to witness, even though only a few people also supported the resurrection while opposing Deacon with clarity, as it wasn't enough to save my project space.

Secondly, I feel a bit uneasy because of how the pBlock was planned. I've acknowledged the issue and agreed to back off, and I've noticed that despite this, people began to push further on the pBlock. A pBlock from the entire Wikipedia-namespace seems a bit unjust. My heavy use was on ANI only, and I did a favor by moving away from ANI completely. I know that it's a bit impractical to stay up all night to simply save my time, but given the continuous delays, that might've led to the pBlock. As you know, before my pBlock was placed, I was active on AfD discussions. That makes it impossible, and I can't really do anything about it, especially since it's not time to appeal for the block. I appreciate your will to help me while I'm blocked, and I hope you can help me out here. Cheers. In solidarity, SH360! (Must edit! Must chat!) 03:38, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi SlapstickHumor360!, I don't know why you're asking me. I suggested a block from ANI because it seemed like an effective remedy at the time. Wikipedian12512 has this block. I advise you ask Star Mississippi, who actually implemented your block. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 14:27, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help! SH360! (Must edit! Must chat!) 00:32, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
The p-block was not planned
A block is to stop disruption to the project, which is what you were doing @SlapstickHumor360! whether or not you intended to. You're welcome to request a modification to your block and another admin will review whether they think your participation would be helpful or harmful to the project. Thank you! SH360! (Must edit! Must chat!) 05:44, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll remember to monitor on Deacon's conduct at AfC/R to decide whether to sanction them or not. As for the pBlock, PhilKnight left a message on my talk page, so you might want to reply to the comment there. SH360! (Must edit! Must chat!) 10:20, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mentoring

[edit]

Hi Reconnabbit! Wikipedia says you're my new mentor. I'm new to editing Wikipedia and wanted to say hello. I'm hoping to learn how to make good edits and understand the rules. Thanks! Baggz01 (talk) 20:58, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Baggz01, I left some links on your talk page that might be helpful. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 21:00, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Vladislav Doronin, assistance request

[edit]

Reconrabbit, hello. I saw you are listed as an admin on Wikipedia and that you were recently involved in BLP Noticeboard discussions. I would very much appreciate your help with the Vladislav Doronin article.

I posted an edit request about the use of the word "oligarch" to describe Doronin; a different editor helped resolve that issue. But then it was reintroduced in a tag placed by an anonymous editor and now features prominently on the top of the page.

Similarly, the same helpful editor recognized a persistent problem and asked for page protection for this article, which was declined. Do the recent disruptive and inappropriate edits (see some examples here, here, and here) made by unregistered users now warrant protection?

Sir Tragedy has said he won't get involved at this time. I'd be very grateful for your help and intervention, Astraea2024 (talk) Astraea2024 (talk) 12:33, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Reconrabbit, thank you for taking action and removing the tag from Vladislav Doronin's article, and for getting involved on the Talk page discussion about the title of the Honors section. I am very grateful. As you may have noticed, the "oligrach" descriptor has been reinserted to the lead sentence (and added as a category). This issue had been discussed at length on the Talk page earlier, and consensus was reached with a few editors. The latest Talk page discussion serves only to advance the anonymous editor's stance.
The syntax of the Honors section is also odd. I tried to clean it up, thinking it would be considered non-controversial edits. The unnamed editor reported me for doing so. The source provided (ref 79) for the Businessman of the Year award does not state a location for the ceremony. The final sentence of the final paragraph in that section should be removed.
I am doing my best to follow the rules and work within the Wiki guidelines. I would really appreciate your involvement again, particularly in removing the word "oligarch" from the lead sentence. Astraea2024 (talk) 11:07, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to mainly respond at the conflict of interest noticeboard. I really am not interested in getting further invested than I already am. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 12:54, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Rileyruocksbrao (18:01, 8 October 2026)

[edit]

Hello, ReconRabbit I am new to editing on Wikipedia and I like helping make changes and make a difference to Wikipedia. So I was asking if you have any advice for beginners.

Sincerely, Riley --Rileyruocksbrao (talk) 18:01, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rileyruocksbrao, there is a lot you can do on Wikipedia. I left some info on your talk page, hopefully it helps. If there's somewhere specific you want to edit I can give more specific ideas. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 19:54, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Isetnefret (17:44, 9 October 2026)

[edit]

I edited my first article. I'm not quite sure how the cite/references work. I included reference tags in my edit, but I'm not sure if that is the correct convention.

I will also admit that the diversity of my sources may be questionable. All of them were from the Australian government, which is not necessarily neutral, but the "facts" that I cited seemed to be neutral in nature. --Isetnefret (talk) 17:44, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Isetnefret. I reviewed your edit and it looks like a good start! Learning to use references can take time. I personally prefer using Zotero, but there are plenty of methods; one way to learn is through: Help:Referencing for beginners. Generally "bare URLs" are avoided, but if you catch it fast enough it is easy enough to fix. Even I will just put the link in a reference and save it sometimes if I know I am going to come back and fix it soon after (see: , ). -- Reconrabbit (talk) 20:20, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi sir Please tell me the reason for the removal of my article. Danial Jafari Lalook (talk) 04:23, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, you will have to ask @AriuCH. That user has moved it to Draft:Danial Jafari. The reason was "not enough sources to establish notability, machine-generated". I am already noticing that it uses Tasnim News Agency, which is not allowed for use on Wikipedia for most uses (see relevant list entry at WP:RSP). -- Reconrabbit (talk) 13:37, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sir,
You deleted the article, and I had to find out from you first why it was deleted. I wrote and translated the article myself, with assistance on only a small portion of the text. Any issues with the wording could have been addressed through editing. Similarly, if you had concerns about the Tasnim News Agency source, you could have removed or replaced that source. However, questioning the entire article raises concerns.
Did you read the article? This actor received an award at the International Film Festival for Children and Youth and was recognized as the festival’s best actor of the year. Among film festivals in Iran, the Fajr Film Festival may be the best-known one, but the festival at which Danial Jafari received his award is one of Iran’s most important film festivals and has an international scope. Is this achievement not sufficient to warrant further consideration? Is his participation in various films not relevant either?
Have you checked this actor’s IMDb profile? A Google search also reveals numerous news articles covering him from different angles. I would respectfully ask you to reconsider your decision.
If you believe any particular section needs to be removed or revised, please make the necessary changes and allow the article to be moved to the main article space.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Lalook (talk) 14:25, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I moved the article to draft space because of signs of AI writing and notability issues. Reconrabbit then removed it from mainspace under R2, in accordance with the draftification process. I also explained the issues on your talk page. Please work on improving the draft and review WP:COI as well. AriuCH (talk) 15:37, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
You may request review from another editor by using the "Submit this article for review" button on the draft. Related, IMDB is not a reliable source. I was only involved with this article on a technical level and will not be engaging further. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 01:41, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Could you or I now move it to the prep areas in DYK because your recent comment looks like a pass review for DYKCRIT? In solidarity, Brynn Who Likes Editing | talk w/ me! 12:25, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've never edited the DYK prep areas or queues and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so for the first time with a hook I reviewed myself. It's already listed at Template talk:Did you know/Approved. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 13:31, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's fine! I have a script that could move it to a prep area. Would it be okay if I move it, considering I'm significantly involved with the article? Thanks for your help. In solidarity, Brynn Who Likes Editing | talk w/ me! 13:33, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

The reviewer, ElTres, left the following feedback:
This draft's references do not show that the person meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion for people. The draft requires multiple published secondary sources that:

Question from LeafInferno (21:33, 26 October 2026)

[edit]

Hi, I noticed a citation missing on something I'm interested in and I have no idea how to fix it. I just made an account, so this is all new.

The discussion on this problem is on this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ralph_Chaplin) under "Chaplin's political views in the 1930's - clarification needed." It's been there for a long time so I figure the other commenters won't reply. I made a comment there with more info but please tell me what other information would be helpful.

DYK for Furry fandom

[edit]

On 29 October 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Furry fandom, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that members of the furry fandom are overrepresented in the IT industry? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Furry fandom. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (Furry fandom), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed.
