[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:39, 18 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Need your opinion

[edit]

Hello, I'm Rae. I noticed that there's no article on the page for the Irunmọlẹ (primordial deities) and it instead just redirects to be Oriṣa page. I personally think there should be a separate article for the Irunmọlẹ as they aren't exactly the same, but I'm not so sure if that'd be okay. You seem to be quite experienced in areas like this so could you please tell me what your opinion is on this? Theguycalledrae (talk) 21:17, 20 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Theguycalledrae, and nice to meet you. Well, all Irunmalẹ are Oriṣa, but the same is not true on the converse, i.e not all Oriṣa are Irunmale. The irunmale are the 'Foundational entities/forces of the earth', but I am guessing that it is likely you're already quite familiar with the nuances. On the issue of a new article, there isn't exactly anything stopping any contributor from creating a new article for the Irunmale/Irunmole/Imale/Imole if they wish to do so, since like you pointed out earlier, they aren't exactly the same as Orishas although both are heavily intertwined/related... Just have your supporting references to back up any claims being made in any such article(s), and of course, try to be as clear and precise as possible on all the associated nuances. Reply if you need any further help/clarifications. Oramfe (talk) 23:01, 20 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yoruba Genetics

[edit]

Hi @Oramfe,

E-M2 is a descendant of E-V38.

E-V38 originated in Northeast Africa. ~2026-15046-15 (talk) 18:57, 8 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-15046-15 While it is true that E-M2 is a sub-clade of E-V38 which has deep origins somewhere in Eastern Africa, it did indeed originate within West/Central Africa. Talking about E-V38's deep origins in East Africa 41,000 years ago in relation to the identities and histories of contemporary ethnic groups across Africa which didn't even exist at the time is analogous to saying 'Zulus originated in East Africa' because their dominant haplogrouping is E-M2 or that Galicians and Cantabrians of Northern Spain originated in East Africa because of E-M81, or that a third of Jordanian Arabs ancestors 'migrated' from East Africa because of E-M123 (which are even more recent descendants). It holds no practical utility/meaning in such discussions, except perhaps in specialized genetic panels focused on deep prehistory and such, hence why I first moved it to the genetic history section and then changed the wording.

Hello, take a look at the "ichafu" page and edit history in case you weren't aware

[edit]

I would have used the internal email thingy if I'd figured it out. The vandalism and sockpuppetry investigation is going on, and their vandalism is what happened to the Gele page and its one of those accounts that requested deletion for the Gele page (and other Yoruba related pages, but those have removed the deletion tag, while Gele is slow to be removed of the tag). The "ichafu" (igbo language word for a scarf) page is where most of those accounts spawned as well as sleeper ones, though they have been vandalising Yoruba related pages days before from shekere to Gele. Hello, if you are free, can you check out this page using inages of Gele to mean "ichafu" (a loan word for scarf in igbo and igala)

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igbo_regalia_and_headdresses Sources used include an nsukka uni reference from 2023 or so that refers to Igala-melo, and "ichafu ayilo" and "Otajiya" or whatever to refer to scarves and cites blog posts, of Gele, and a Wikimedia post... Dolpina (talk) 12:05, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Dolpina: (talk), You will have to dispute the refs or include tags asking for clarification in the article if they aren't precise enough or if nothing directly validates the claims bing made by the article in the refs.
As for the headscarves themselves and their images, you will have to include a section backed by the needed references for the Yoruba cultural influence on the use of certain pieces/article of clothing and other clothing customs of the modern Igbos. Such articles, first hand accounts and other references do exist.
You can't repudiate what a people call (or chose to call) something in their own language, even if that 'thing' is borrowed from you, What you can do however, is provide the proof that the 'thing' was borrowed from/influenced by your own culture either directly or second order, include the name of the borrowed item in the donor culture, and the name that the influenced culture now calls it.. i.e by so and so name. Okay, thanks. Dolpina (talk) 20:04, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your edit on Yoruba clothing

[edit]

I saw your edit in the Yoruba clothing article, it has some useful details and sources added. Thanks! I am also working on a draft on the adoption of Yoruba clothing by other non Yoruba groups in Nigeria as a national dress. If you are interested or have time, you can participate in the draft.
