[edit]| Guild of Copy Editors – September 2026 Newsletter
Hello, and welcome to the September newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since June. Election news: Project coordinators play an important role in our WikiProject. Following the mid-year Election of Coordinators, we welcomed TNM101 to the coordinator team. Dhtwiki remains as lead coordinator, and Miniapolis, Mox Eden and GoldRomean return as coordinators. We said goodbye to Wikieditor662 and thank them for their service. If you'd like to help out behind the scenes, please consider taking part in our December election – watchlist our ombox for updates. Information about the role of coordinators can be found here. Reviewing system: The Guild is adopting a new system of scoring copy edit reviews. A point will be given for each review, and barnstars for reviewing will be awarded. These changes will take effect from this month's drive, and we encourage experienced copy editors to sign up for reviewing. For more details, see here. June 2026 blitz: 18 of the 20 editors who signed up for the June 2026 Copy Editing Blitz copy edited a total of 69,606 words comprising 30 articles. Barnstars awarded are here. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we do without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators. Administrators' newsletter – October 2026
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2026).

- Following an RfC, the good article criteria have been amended to add accessibility requirements.
- Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
- The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.
- Interface administrators no longer need to specify the
ResourceLoaderoption in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded throughResourceLoader. (T298199) - The
list=abusefiltersAPI module now supportsformatversion=2and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, theactionsproperty is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)
- The arbitration case Gun control 2 has been closed.
- Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.
- The October 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from September 29 to October 19. The call for candidates ends October 5.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2026 Arbitration Committee elections is opened and closes on 8 October.
- The Good Article Nominations backlog drive has begun and is scheduled to end on November 3.
GOCE leaderboard question
[edit]Hi, Miniapolis … on my Talk page, I left you a reply to one of the awards you posted there for me on the 4th but I'm not sure you were notified of because it's several days later now and the message wasn't very complicated. Because I've had the same difficulty on occasion—though in reverse (messages sent to my own Talk page that weren't listed in my notifications)—however, I thought to tell you just in case. Augnablik (talk) 05:42, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't see your original message two days ago because you didn't ping me; I keep my watchlist short. According to the barnstar page (which I work from when giving out the barnstars), you were part of a three-way tie for fifth in 5K articles and in fifth place for longest article. Lfstevens had moved into third in 5K, and I was fourth. In solidarity, Miniapolis 13:53, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Miniapolis, what you're seeing on the September leaderboard, 5k+ Articles row and what I'm seeing there are completely different. I cannot understand what's going on. Here's what I see for the row in question—and yes, I refreshed my browser as well as checked the leaderboard on two different browsers:
- 5k+ Articles— 3rd place, LfStevens & Miniapolis ... 4th place, Augnablik ... 5th place, blank
- By the way, I didn't ping you when I replied to your barnstar messaging on my Talk page because I assumed a message that was sent in reply to a sender's message would automatically be listed in the sender's notifications. Augnablik (talk) 18:10, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- I linked to the barnstar page in my previous post. IDK why its leaderboard differs from that of the drive page; you'd have to ask Dhtwiki, who created the barnstar page. I also don't understand why this is such a big deal. In solidarity, Miniapolis 23:16, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- The leaderboard at the signup page is different from that at the barnstar page. The latter page should be taken as definitive, as it's the result of calculating figures for barnstars; and it should have been copied back to the signup page for consistency's sake (and will be shortly). For example, I upped Lfstevens number to 3 upon examining his signup entry and found two more deserving of 5k awards who apparently hadn't listed themselves on the signup board. Dhtwiki (talk) 04:32, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- Gosh, I never thought of this as a "big deal," @Miniapolis, just something to straighten out. I would have done exactly the same even if I'd been awarded a higher-level barnstar but believed it should have been a lower one. Or none at all.
- Thanks for the idea of asking Dhtwiki about the page discrepancy, as it seems worth following up on to try to prevent any more such situations, so I'll do that (privately). Augnablik (talk) 04:54, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- The two pages are now the same, my having back-copied as promised, but the discrepancy can still be seen via the signup/drive page's edit history. Dhtwiki (talk) 05:08, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Dhtwiki, for solving the mystery! And I didn't even need to write you ...
- @Miniapolis, it seems our conversation in this thread has had another benefit besides just clearing up the page mystery, considering that Dhtwiki discovered two more copy editors eligible for the September 2026 5k+ Articles fifth place award when he became involved with my question. I guess that does make it a "big deal" after all. 🙂 Augnablik (talk) 11:29, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
