Sri Lanka Army page isn't a page for news everytime guns go missing
[edit]DOn't add WP:NEWS for random incidents like guns going missing. The US Army page isn't spammed with every incident of weapons going missing like this 1 or this 2. Its not a collection of WP:ROUTINE news and adding the news everytime guns go missing isn't notable or relevant. -UtoD 06:30, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- @UtoD, none of these cases have been highlighted by the president as a major issue to national security. Merline303 (talk) 11:46, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- Which doesn't make it anymore WP:NOTNEWS. The history section of the SL army page is for an overview of its conflict history, not a dozen soldiers stealing guns and not a list of statements by the president. -UtoD 18:23, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- I disagree. This article refers to the UN panel of experts report on war crimes and Sri Lanka Armed Forces page refers to the child sex ring scandal. Merline303 (talk) 03:14, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- You do realise you are referring to the peacekeeping section right? Also are you claiming mentioning allegations of war crimes in a 30 year war is equivalent to a dozen soldiers stealing guns? That is clear case of WP:UNDUE and why random news shouldn't be spammed into the SLA history. The allegations of war crimes are part of the Sri Lankan Civil War which is the major military campaign of the Sri Lankan Army since it's founding and refers to overall allegations rather than individual incidents. You do see the difference from those and trying to turn the wikipage into a news board about every time a dozen or so soldiers steal some guns or president says something? The history is about military history, the news of a dozen soldiers stealing guns isn't. You can put it in Anura Kuamara Dissanayake page or something but tring to claim "the time when dozen soldiers stole some guns" is a major military deployment or campaign isn't going to fly. -UtoD 03:26, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- @UtoD, you seem to be sharing your own opinions. The UN report refers to a single episode which is claimed to be significant, and the missing guns have been linked to the increase in gun crimes in the island and the President as the commander in chief has called it a threat to national security. If you feel a section on the Sri Lankan Army discipline issues and links to the underworld should be added like the peacekeeping section, lets add, there is a lot of content. I read WP:UNDUE it says that "all significant viewpoints" should be given and "minority views" should be avoided, multiple sources have been sited to show that and the President of the country staying that something is a threat to national security is no insignificant matter. Merline303 (talk) 04:03, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Your entire argument is that WP:NOTNEWS should be ignored because the President said something. This is the SLA History not the "everything President said about the SLA". So if this is about President then it should be in his page where there is a national security section. It shouldn't be mentioned in the Sri Lanka Army page at all. We don't make such sections, see other military pages like the US Army or British Army. It's not a news board for every time the president comments on something. UtoD 04:15, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- @UtoD, I don't think this is what's meant by WP:NOTNEWS. Given the media coverage and the fact that it is considered important for the President to also talk about it in public, this falls under Wikipedia:Notability (events) as a significant current event which WP:NOTNEWS states can be included. However, I disagree with you. There seem to be fair bit of content to make a section on discipline and corruption which appears not to be in the US Army or British Army, in fact these have their own articles. Going on your argument it's the same with others, war crimes by the US Army or British Army are not mentioned it, why is it mentioned in this page, so I don't think it's not in other pages is a valid argument. Merline303 (talk) 04:25, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- @UtoD, can you please explain why this content should be moved to the President's page instead? Merline303 (talk) 04:30, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

- Because the war crime content was forced through by several editors who tried to forcefully create an entire war crime section. However we don't make such sections in Army pages but as pages like Israeli Defence Force do mention overall overview of war crimes as part of their wars with Palestinians so it was agreed to allow it to be similarly mentioned in the history. Also this "notable event" that is a major conflict in Sri Lankan military history you are claiming is an incident of a dozen soldiers stealing guns. Its kind of becomes ridiculous when you bring it to prespective. The Army page is an overview of its military history NOT a news board for everything President says or everytime a bunch of soldiers get arrested for something. According to yourself the only significance of the news is Anura Kumara said it as part of a national security policy. Thus then its more suitable it to be added under his policies of National Security section rather than the SLA. If you want you can make a section within Corruption in Sri Lanka to include the incident. I will not dispute any additions to those, only to that of the SLA page. -UtoD 04:34, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- @UtoD, ok I read the talk pages for the articles you said and I can agree with you that this content doesn't fit here but in the President's page. I don't think it fits in the Corruption in Sri Lanka since this has been called a national security issue. Merline303 (talk) 14:09, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to Sri Lanka, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
Edit war warning
[edit]
Your recent editing history at Tamil genocide shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in being blocked from editing—especially as the page in question is currently under restrictions from the Arbitration Committee, if you violate the one-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than one revert on a single page with active Arbitration Committee restrictions within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the one-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the one-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.--Petextrodon (talk) 08:18, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Petextrodon, I am sorry I don't get what you mean! Can you please explain. Merline303 (talk) 08:16, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- What part of the following do you not get?
- "Your recent editing history at Tamil genocide shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. - @Petextrodon, I don't understand why you think its edit waring? I was trying to add clarity to the introduction to the article. I see that you have been doing the same. Merline303 (talk) 05:48, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

The article Irish Forum for Peace in Sri Lanka has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Searches did not turn up enough in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources to support meeting WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I agree with the finding here. I accept that I was using AI for content generation. Initially I reviewed the references and later I took it for granted. Requesting a complete unblock. As promised, I have cleaned up articles moved to draftspace by Airship and submitted these to AfC and followed recommendations. - @Ca, Yes, this is part of a boarder topic of land reform in Sri Lanka and agrarian reforms in Sri Lanka. It's still a law in effect in Sri Lanka and defined the amount of land in private ownership. Merline303 (talk) 02:55, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

I added a book source that seems relevant in the further readings section of the draft. Ca talk to me! 03:46, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Ca talk to me! 06:58, 28 August 2025 (UTC)- Thanks for expanding the draft. However, I noticed that some of the wording used in the article are very similar to that of the cited sources. This is called wp:close paraphrasing should not be done. I rewrote some part of the draft for you, but you should check if there are further instances of close paraphrasing. Ca talk to me! 07:00, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Ca, thanks. I will check. I also updated the draft Draft:Land Reform Commission, do you think it should be a stand-alone or merge with Land Reform Law? Merline303 (talk) 05:53, 3 September 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Smuggling in Sri Lanka
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Smuggling in Sri Lanka requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G15 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it exhibits one or more of the following signs which indicate that the page could only plausibly have been generated by large language models (an "AI chatbot" or other application using such technology) and would have been removed by any reasonable human review:
- Communication intended for the user: This may include collaborative communication (e.g., "Here is your Wikipedia article on..."), knowledge-cutoff disclaimers (e.g., "Up to my last training update ..."), self-insertion (e.g., "as a large language model"), and phrasal templates (e.g., "Smith was born on [Birth Date].")
- Implausible non-existent references: This may include external links that are dead on arrival, ISBNs with invalid checksums, and unresolvable DOIs. Since humans can make typos and links may suffer from link rot, a single example should not be considered definitive. Editors should use additional methods to verify whether a reference truly does not exist.
- Nonsensical citations: This may include citations of incorrect temporality (e.g a source from 2020 being cited for a 2022 event), DOIs that resolve to completely unrelated content (e.g., a paper on a beetle species being cited for a computer science article), and citations that attribute the wrong author or publication.
Text produced by these applications can be unsuitable for an encyclopedia, and output must be carefully checked. Pages created using them that did not undergo human review may be deleted at any time.
If you think these signs were incorrectly identified and you assert that you did carefully check the content, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Additionally – if you would like to create an article but find creating new encyclopedia content yourself difficult, please share this with other editors at the Teahouse, and they may be able to help. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your legitimate contributions. ChrysGalley (talk) 13:12, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
