Correction

[edit]

Haunted Spy - it’s my first time sending a message - please excuse any format or protocol mistakes.

I am the grandchild of one of the victims of a spree killer you documented, and have a small (but significant) factual correction. How should I proceed? MANY THANKS — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-20039-59 (talk) 13:38, 31 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-20039-59: Hello. You're free to make the correction yourself if you want to, just keep in mind that due to the site's rules requiring reliable sources it may be labeled as needing a secondary source or outright deleted.
Hope you have a wonderful day, and sorry for your loss. Haunted Spy (talk) 14:52, 31 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Richard Valenti

[edit]

@Haunted Spy, it's me, Nelson. I am currently editing a draft article of Richard Valenti (1943–2020), a South Carolina serial killer who was sentenced to life for two murders of teenage girls and also confessed to killing a third girl. You are welcome to edit it too if you want to join, and I hope to use some of your clippings about Valenti for the article too (I found them in the newspapers.com while I was doing source hunting). NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 05:39, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@NelsonLee20042020: Hey Nelson, I'm going to have some free time in the coming few days so I'll be able to chime in and help out if needed. You're also free to use my clippings, I can link you whatever you need if necessary. Haunted Spy (talk) 12:26, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Haunted Spy, thank you. You are also free to edit too when I move the article to main space. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 12:45, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Elton Manning Jackson

[edit]

@Haunted Spy, it's me, Nelson. I completed the article on Elton Manning Jackson. Hope you can have a look at it.

There's something I might want to ask for your opinion about. Earlier on, a wiki user called Fram reverted a huge chunk of my article and claimed that based on BLP, I should not make it look like Jackson was the perpetrator of the serial killings without the conviction on the other cases, and should separate the serial killings from him. But I disagree because he was made notable by his connection to those murders, and the authorities also believed he was the perpetrator since the murder of Andre Smith shared multiple similarities with the other 11 victims.

Honestly, it is a difficult and challenging case for me to write and for the style of writing, I referred to many other cases of suspected serial killers like Daniel Conahan, the Hog Trail Killer who was recently executed and widely believed to be the culprit despite his conviction for only one of those multiple murders. There were also multiple sources that showed that Jackson was the prime suspect of the cases and nobody else was linked to those cases, so I felt that this information should stay and the reversion itself was misguided. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 01:19, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Haunted Spy, I wonder what is your take on this? Whether should the article stay as it was originally written or should it be rewritten or moved to Hampton Roads serial murders? NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 01:22, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it depends on a case-by-case basis, but in this specific one, I believe it's better for the article to remain as it is. From the majority of the coverage I've seen, most of it focuses on Jackson himself rather than the murders, therefore, it makes sense to me that the article is about the suspected serial killer rather than the murders. Haunted Spy (talk) 04:24, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Haunted Spy, thanks for your opinion. I also felt we can leave the content as it is, and I cannot fathom his perspective or his take on things. In fact, previously, he reverted the detail about an executed offender's last meal from three of my articles: the murders of Zosha Pickett, Jennifer Wilson and Christy Fornoff. His reasoning was that the detail itself was irrelevant, but I felt that this is pretty much erred because by layman terms, I see multiple articles mention it and by Wikipedia guidelines of WP:UNDUE, WP:PROPORTION and WP:TRIVIA, this detail of last meal requests, while it is not related to the crime or explain it, does not naturally disqualify its relevance to the article because there is some encyclopedic relevance if they are within the coverage of our cited sources. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 07:17, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am also concerned that even after I laid out my opinion to his talk page, he might once again revert my edits without a discussion like I suggested or worse. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 07:21, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Which I just did, before I noticed you discussing me without informing me. I'll take it to the BLP noticeboard to get a wider perspective and everyone's input, not just one cherrypicked editor where you present only your POV. Fram (talk) 07:42, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Haunted Spy, I found the discussion. You can discuss your viewpoint there too if you choose to. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 09:22, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
