DYK for Aimee La Joie

[edit]

On 8 August 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Aimee La Joie, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that actress Aimee La Joie (pictured) portrayed an entire film crew in The Film Crew? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Aimee La Joie. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (Aimee La Joie), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

Hook update
Your hook reached 12,787 views (1,065.6 per hour), making it one of the most viewed hooks of August 2026 – nice work!

Good article nominations RfC

[edit]

Hi Filmforme,

There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.

By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.

Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:02, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Friend of the World

[edit]

Greetings @Filmforme:, I noticed your GA nomination for Friend of the World. Looking it over, the sources are pretty solid for the most part. A big problem with the article, which will be brought up in any review, is the structure. A large portion is broken up in small paragraphs, quotes, is spread all around in how it is presented. From my own edits on artistic and experimental films, very strong prose and structure is needed. That applies to any article. What I suggest is take a good amount of time to restructure things so they flow better and are concise in what it is saying. My expansion (with some help) on the article for Begotten is a good example of a strong structure (still am working on editing that for a successful Featured nomination). There are other examples like Eraserhead that can be immeasurable in how to inspire structure. Your article has a lot of potential and I would love to see it join the fold of Good and Featured articles. If you have any questions or in need of advice, you can summon me on my talk page. I have sent you a note about a page you started

[edit]

Hi Filmforme. Thank you for your work on Francis Gercke. Another editor, BrechtBro, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

This article is cluttered by too much detail on the subject's acting career, which appears to be WP:ROTM and does not contribute to notability enough to meet WP:NACTOR. The subject may be notable per WP:NCREATIVE as a playwright, but the discussion of that work and sources to support notability of it are not included in the article.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|BrechtBro}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

BLAR notice

Hi there. While reviewing new pages, I noticed that a page you created, Adam Daniel, does not appear to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines as a standalone article. As an alternative to deletion, I've redirected it to The Jumpitz. If you disagree, feel free to revert my redirect and we can proceed to a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. (If you reply to me here, please ping me as I am not watching this page.) Thanks! Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:56, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Dclemens1971 Hi thanks for bringing this to my attention. The article was previously accepted at WP:AFC from this draft so I reverted the WP:BLAR. However, I moved it to WP:DRAFTIFY where it can incubate further. –Filmforme (talk) 07:49, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unreleased films info

[edit]

Hey, I wanted to do a separate post about why NFF is being so very heavily scrutinized and upheld nowadays. Long story short, it's kind of a perfect storm of the following:

  • Paid editors using Wikipedia as a way to market upcoming movies
  • Fans coming to Wikipedia to edit
  • WP:CHURNALISM/Press release based articles
  • A misinterpretation of NFF in general

Basically, for a while there we had a real issue with paid editing, most of which centered around Indian/Bollywood cinema. There were some for other countries, though. The sourcing for these articles were almost entirely barely rephrased press releases, where it followed an extremely specific layout. Some of these would effectively be the same article, with only 1-3 sentences changed to match whatever new press release the outlet received. This was first noticed with the Indian film related articles, but after a while people noticed it was a huge issue with films put out by companies located in the US, UK, and so on. Here is an example of a PR article. It usually starts with a paragraph of the actual news, followed by a cast list and plot summary, then there will be a few large quotes, a mention of the crew/cast's other work, and typically ending with representation info. There's a lot of info about how involved people think it's great, but not really any true commentary from the journalist themselves. It's generally considered to be routine coverage, so much so that it's not considered to be particularly able to give notability. Some consider it to be churnalism.

This by itself didn't fully cause the whole storm though. It just made people look at the articles for unreleased films and how people argue for notability at AfD. The whole thing with NFF is that you have to be able to establish where the production is notable enough to pass GNG on its own. The film starting production was added as a general baseline, as most times the pre-filming production isn't going to be heavily covered or notable. People would build articles for major productions like Batwoman or a MCU film in the draft space, then move the article out as soon as filming started. For those cases, the pre-filming production was already super, super heavy and would likely pass GNG on its own, but people held back because if it fell though, the info would likely be easily summarized on a franchise or other related page. The unfortunate side effect of this was that people started to assume that filming=notability, causing them to argue for notability for movies with some pretty paltry sourcing. It didn't help that a lot of people would kind of look the other way when such articles were created, as many would become notable upon release and people didn't want to put forth the energy to nominate the article for deletion.

About a year or so ago a couple of editors started noticing the issue and began highlighting the problem at both AfD and the film WikiProject. This resulted in a clarification and tightening of NFF, but it's also had the unfortunate side effect of the pendulum swinging way hard in the other direction. Where people were kind of permissive/inclusionist before, now an article is more likely to get nominated and deleted at AfD. The deletions aren't incorrect, it's just that stuff is more strict now.

Basically, it's why I'm so extremely cautious with sourcing nowadays, particularly for anything considered to be "niche" or "genre". It's kneecapped a lot of the horror themed articles I would have otherwise created, as they toed the notability line very closely. I've legit had people argue against the reliability of known genre sourcing like Rue Morgue and Fangoria, saying that reviews and other, non-PR content from them would not be usable. I'm just terrified that if the draft was moved live, it would become another casualty.

Anywho, I wanted to explain all of that to you - I didn't know if you were aware of that or if I'd commented that elsewhere where you'd seen. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 19:15, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm not trying to discourage you from any of this, mind you. We absolutely need more people creating articles on horror related stuff and films in general. I just want you to know all of what's going on with this if you weren't already aware of the background stuff. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 19:17, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Total side note - are you signed up with any of the Wikipedia Library stuff? You can get access to Newspapers.com and McFarland texts, among other things. I've requested a few of their books to expand articles and use Newspapers.com all the time. One of my favorite newspaper expanded articles was I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 19:19, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Side note: if you haven't checked it out, I recommend the YT show "Better Luck Than Chuck". It's a horror themed game show and kind of an example of the type of thing that would become a casualty of the above stuff. I want to make an article, but it only has 1 review and most of the other coverage is limited to press release stuff. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 19:34, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@ReaderofthePack Thanks for all this information. I am aware somewhat, but I am still new to WP:NFF and you seem to know what's up. It sounds like there is a lot of gray area on what one editor might think over another. I would prefer to not go through WP:AFC, but without reviews yet, it seems like the safest play. I also drafted an upcoming film called Concert Heroes that probably barely passed.
I am on the wiki library sometimes, mostly using Newspapers.com, NewspaperArchive and ProQuest. I haven't tried McFarland texts yet, but I am looking for access to NewsBank too.
Oh and I do see a couple reviews out for "Better Luck Than Chuck" 12 –Filmforme (talk) 21:49, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
