[edit]WikiCup 2026 March newsletter
[edit]The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
Bgsu98 (submissions) with 1,467 round points, largely gained from 1 featured article, 5 featured lists, 15 good articles, and 42 FAC and GAN reviews;
Olliefant (submissions) with 1,246 round points, largely from 4 featured lists, 9 good articles, 2 featured topic articles, 4 did you know articles, and 75 FAC and GAN reviews;
Generalissima (submissions) with 1,095 round points, largely from 3 featured articles, 6 good articles, and 5 did you know articles;
MCE89 (submissions) with 848 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 32 FAC and GAN reviews; and
Rollinginhisgrave (submissions) with 838 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 14 FAC, GAN, and peer reviews.
The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.
Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! [edit]A barnstar for you!
[edit]| The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar | |
| Thank you Dylan620 for your dedication to keeping Wikipedia free from vandalism and sockpuppet trolls. You could probably be an admin, given your experience in dealing with socks and trolls, not to mention your knowledge of editing. There are a lot of Wiki-doomers out there, but thanks to people like you, I know this website will continue to flourish. Cheers and kudos! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:20, 9 August 2026 (UTC) |
- D'awww, thanks Hurricanehink, I really do appreciate it. I try my best to make Wikipedia a better place. Not gonna lie, you could probably be an admin carries a lot of weight coming from someone I've looked up to for many years. I wouldn't feel comfortable running now – it's been over 15 years since my last RfA (I actually kinda cringe when I think about how badly I wanted to be an admin early in my editing career), but my activity levels have been wildly inconsistent in that time. June 2026 was my first month with over 100 edits since February 2025, and while edit counts don't tell the whole story, I do think I would need to stay active for some while longer before I could realistically stand a chance at RfA. This would help ensure I'm not out of the loop on any major changes to PAGs that have been made over the years. Part of me is also a little reluctant about adminship because, at this stage in my editing career, I prefer content work over admin-adjacent stuff by a fairly wide margin. That said, we do need more admins, and I've run into cases where the mop would have come in handy (mostly pertaining to fighting vandals and moving completed drafts over redirects with trivial page histories, but IIRC there have also been times when I've waited around a day for an admin to act on a copyvio revdel request I'd submitted). Dylan620 (he/they/she • talk • edits) 18:28, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I only ran for administrator because I was tired of having to ask people to move articles, or other things that seemed so easy that I could do it. The fact you ran for RfA 15 years ago, and you are still active, means you want to stick around, and you still care about making Wikipedia better. I also much prefer content work over doing admin stuff, and you can decide what kind of work you still do (as a hypothetical admin), it just means you'd have extra tools. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:19, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Hurricanehink: I certainly won't deny I'm in it for the long haul – coming up on 19 years and counting! In any case, there are some articles I would like to work on before a prospective third crack at RfA, but I appreciate the kind words. Who knows, maybe I'll feel ready in 6 to 12 months? By the way, thank you for protecting those pages earlier. Dylan620 (he/they/she • talk • edits) 01:37, 10 August 2026 (UTC)

Page mover granted
[edit]
Hello, Dylan620. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:

- Category:Requested moves, for article renaming requests awaiting action.
If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Dr vulpes (Talk) 04:45, 16 August 2026 (UTC)

Hey there! Hope your doing great, I just wanted to let you know I've gone ahead and nominated List of awards and nominations received by My Chemical Romance over at FLC and thought maybe you could take a look at it. You obviously don't have to review it if you don't want to, just figured I'd reach out considering you supported the List of songs article :) Gavetheman555 (talk) 00:39, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Gavetheman555! I'd be happy to take a look at the list in the next few days, as I enjoyed reviewing your work last time around and I like what I've heard of MCR's music. I should note, though, that approaching someone for a review because they supported your previous nomination could potentially be construed as canvassing for support of the next nomination, as opposed to a neutrally-worded request for feedback. I'm sure you weren't intending to canvass, but I just thought I should give you a word of caution for the future :) Dylan620 (he/they/she • talk • edits) 07:02, 29 August 2026 (UTC)

Re: courtesy ping at peer review
[edit]Hello, Dylan620. I noticed you pinged me at the above mentioned peer review following a minor edit I made to an article you're working towards bringing to Featured Article status.
My reasoning for the edit was because that the band's nationality is already introduced in the lead section, so I felt that repeating it immediately in the first section was fairly redundant rather than necessary for context. Though I do understand the point about the lead summarising the body, and I don't feel strongly about it, so if it's preferred to be included per the peer review, I'm not bothered by it. Magatta (talk) 15:26, 14 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Magatta – I appreciate this message, but I'm going to leave it at the status quo (i.e. the version you reverted to). I actually agree with you on the substantive issue (repeating information shortly after intruduction), and only made the change because it was suggested at the PR. The reviewer doesn't seem to feel strongly about it, either, so probably best to leave it as is. Dylan620 (he/they/she • talk • edits) 18:10, 14 September 2026 (UTC)

[edit]On 19 September 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Timeline of the 1989 Pacific hurricane season, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the first storm of the 1989 Pacific hurricane season formed more than four months before the season's official start date? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Timeline of the 1989 Pacific hurricane season. "Not Strong Enough" "FAC
[edit]Hello. Apologies for this random message, but I just wanted to let you know that I did get your ping notification for your "Not Strong Enough" FAC. I am glad to see the article in the FAC space. I cannot believe that it has been two years since the peer review. I am on a bit of a Wikipedia break, as I am limiting my time on here to my own personal project, so I will not be doing reviews in the near future. I am not ignoring your ping or anything like that. Thank you for the kind words in the FAC nomination. I really do appreciate that. I wish you the best of luck with everything on and off Wikipedia. I always enjoy seeing different songs in the FAC space. I love seeing different artists and genres getting featured recognition. It has grown a lot since I first starting editing on Wikipedia and hopefully that only continues. Aoba47 (talk) 00:50, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Hey there Aoba47, thank you for this message. I totally understand the need to prioritize one's own work and also to take a step back from Wikipedia, and I don't fault you one bit for that. And yes, I strongly agree that it is wonderful when different artists and genres get their time to shine at FAC. The promotion of "Not Strong Enough" would give Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus each their first FA, and Phoebe Bridgers her second (after another article that I worked on, "Ghost in the Machine"). Two more articles I have in the pipeline as FA hopefuls, "Believe" and Punching the Clown, would also be the first FAs for their respective artists (Staind and Lambchop). Funny thing is, when I started here as a very young user, I actually got in trouble several times for not doing enough article work! Needless to say, my confidence in my own writing abilities improved over time, and now content creation is the area of Wikipedia where I feel happiest contributing. Thank you for the well wishes, I really do appreciate it. I hope that you and yours have been thriving, and I wish you the absolute best in everything on- and off-wiki. Dylan620 (he/they/she • talk • edits) 06:49, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for understanding and thank you for the kind words. I really do appreciate that. Maybe, I will come back to reviewing sooner as it is always nice to help editors, but I have been trying to be better with balancing on- and off-wiki work and with time management in general. I am finally getting a better handle on it. It just seems like time goes by so quickly. I will keep a close eye on the FAC, but please let me know if you need a review, like if there is any danger of the FAC being archived. I am glad that you are more confident with your writing abilities and with content creation. I know that I have improved a lot when it comes to Wikipedia. I still cringe whenever I look over my past work, but I try to view that as a positive. Best of luck with your future FAC ideas. Both articles look really interesting. The FAC space has seemingly been quite active lately, which is always nice to see. Aoba47 (talk) 20:51, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
Autopatrolled granted
[edit]Hey Dylan, nice job on The Fallen Crimson! I feel like NPP doesn't need to be overseeing your creations any longer, so I've granted you the autopatrolled permission; details in the template message below. Let me know if you have any questions!
Extended content |

Hi Dylan620, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers. Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 07:12, 7 October 2026 (UTC) |
