uw-selfrevert
[edit]Hello, and thank you for your anti-vandalism work! I was about to warn ~2026-30221-13 (talk · contribs), but you beat me to it. In case you don't know about it, I thought I'd let you know about the existence of the template {{subst:uw-selfrevert}}, which is useful for cases like that one where someone reverted their own editing test. (I'm not sure whether it's an option in UltraViolet, but it is available in Twinkle.) Cadddr (talk) 18:30, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi! Nice to meet you, and thanks for telling me about the self-revert option. I didn’t notice it at the time, but I just checked and it is in the UltraViolet warning menu. I’m not sure how I missed it. Thanks for the heads-up! Cl00m)Red -|talk|- 21:29, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
Hi! I'm about to revert/undo a bunch of your recent updates. Could you please read MOS:US instead of changing from "US" to "U.S."? Thank you. Servite et contribuere (talk) 09:13, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- Actually, I might not have understood your edits at first the more I think about it and look at it. This might need further discussion. Maybe I made a mistake, which is fine as we all make mistakes. But since I have now reverted all of them, there probably should be a broader discussion. I felt like reverting these was the right decision, but I am not so sure now. We should bring other editors in to discuss to be frank. Servite et contribuere (talk) 09:20, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi! MOS:US dictates the one should "retain U.S. in American or Canadian English articles in which it is already established". So, I go into Gerlad Ford, for example, see 31 instances of U.S. and 3 instances of US, so I change US to U.S. to make the whole thing consistent. I am confused which aspect of MOS:US I violated. - Wanted to clarify that I am already familiar with MOS:US and have not been changing the US formatting indiscriminately. I look at the article and makes changes that comply with the Style Guide to make it all consistent. I know that the "US" formatting is preferred formatting if the "U.S." is not already established, so I change it to make it agree with the rest of the article. I do acknowledge could have absolutely made mistakes though. Cl00m)Red -|talk|- 14:20, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- I am quite familiar. It applies to established usages, and I think it also heavily encouraged to use "US" over "U.S." when creating articles for example, or adding it in. I am honestly a bit confused here myself. Servite et contribuere (talk) 14:22, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- MOS has both a default preference for “US” and a separate instruction to retain established “U.S.” usage in articles where it’s already consistent. For the edits I was making, I was trying to follow the latter and standardize to the article’s existing style rather than change it globally. I do agree the wording can be a little ambiguous in practice, though, especially when both principles seem applicable. Cl00m)Red -|talk|- 14:40, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
