Question from LillyRose13 (08:56, 24 September 2026)

[edit]

Hi, how do I get my 10 edits? I have tried to edit and hit publish but it didn’t seem to have registered --LillyRose13 (talk) 08:56, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @LillyRose13! You currently have one edit, to User:LillyRose13/sandbox. If this is the edit you're talking about, it seems to have been published just fine. Were you planning to create an article from the draft in your sandbox? Chlod (top • contribs) 09:19, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for replying Chloe. I was planning to publish the article but I don’t seem to figure out how to do it LillyRose13 (talk) 09:38, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@LillyRose13: You would need to go through our Articles for Creation process to get your draft published. Please visit Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Submitting, and paste in your sandbox's title (User:LillyRose13/sandbox). Note that, as it currently stands, this draft is unlikely to be accepted as it does not demonstrate the notability of the subject by citing reliable secondary sources that are independent of the topic. You may wish to read Help:Your first article § Gather sources (and its succeeding section, Notability – should this topic have an article?) for further guidance. Deputy standard installation notice

[edit]

I came from {{Deputy standard installation}}, which redirects here. You are hereby informed that most {{PAM templates}} will be completely redesigned in a few weeks per WP:RFCMERGEAFD and the implementation tasks at WP:AFDTODO. Luckily for you, the two merge/split templates you tagged are not on our radar, so you don't need to do anything for now. Check the most recent date of the sandboxes of the other templates in case you wish to support those; if they have not been edited in the last 3 months, they're probably fine.

However, note that two tasks at WP:AFDTODO involve {{Merged-from}}. Those are called "Rename {{Afd-merge to}}, {{Merged-from}}, and {{Merged-to}} to a more sensible naming scheme" and "Merge {{Old merge}} into {{old XfD multi}} and {{Afd-merged-from}} into {{Merged from}}". This might not happen for several months (or even ever), but it's worth keeping in mind. These future changes might not break existing usages. You will likely be notified again once these start to be worked on. FaviFake (talk) 08:33, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@FaviFake: Great timing that I placed those templates last night. Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep these in mind moving forward. Will also note that it seems {{Merged-to}} is also affected and I forgot to tag that template; I can see there's also planned changes for it and I'll also put that on my radar. I'll also review the sandboxes in a bit to see if any additional work is needed to fit the changes. Chlod (top • contribs) 08:43, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! As you said, no concrete changes are currently pending for those three templates. FaviFake (talk) 08:47, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Error on Template:Cite JTWC?

[edit]

So while I was citing stuff on Champi's section on the 2026 Pacific typhoon season article I think I stumbled on an error?

I was using the template to cite a JTWC warning for Champi regaining Category 5 status and I input:

{{Cite JTWC |date=2026-10-19 |type=warning |category=STY |designation=29W |no=20 |name=Champi |url=https://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/products/wp2926web.txt |archive-url=https://wiki.chlod.net/jtwc/text/2026-10-19-0730-wp2926web.txt |archive-date=October 19, 2026}}

What this gets is:

[1]

References

  1. ↑ Category 4-Equivalent Super Typhoon 29W (Champi) Warning No. 20 (Report). United States Joint Typhoon Warning Center. 19 October 2026. Archived from the original on October 19, 2026. Retrieved 19 October 2026.

Now Champi was 140 kts here, making it a Category 5. But the parameter of "STY" for "category" gives "Category 4-Equivalent Super Typhoon". What about the Category 5-Equivalent Super Typhoons? There doesn't seem to be a parameter for them. I had to change the parameter to "TY" as saying it was just a typhoon is better than saying it was a Category 4 then. I suggest you either create a parameter for Category 5-Equivalent Super Typhoons or don't have it show the Saffir-Simpson category for a super typhoon, your choice in the end. Nibnab43637 (talk) 21:33, 19 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Nibnab43637: {{Cite JTWC}} uses {{Storm name}}, which powers most of the automatic storm category name resolution on this wiki. sty is an alias for a Category 4-equivalent super typhoon, whereas you probably want styphoon for a Super typhoon instead. It's important to note that the warning text only ever calls it a "super typhoon", and it would be incorrect to use "category 5-equivalent" (or "category 4-equivialent") as it is not stated in that source. Chlod (top • contribs) 02:21, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. With TD for tropical depression, TS for tropical storm, TY for typhoon and TC for tropical cyclone, I naturally assumed STY would be for super typhoon. Maybe you could add styphoon as a suggested value in the category parameter in this parameter table; that would have helped me. I don't wanna do it myself cause I worry it could break the code? I'm not familiar with editing templates like this. Nibnab43637 (talk) 16:19, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Nibnab43637: I've added it per your suggestion. Thanks! Chlod (top • contribs) 17:14, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

DCWC closing update

[edit]

Three weeks ago, the 2026 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of competition, we have our winners. Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place OpalYosutebito (submissions) comes in third with 525 points earned from a large series of good articles about pandas. Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place Vestrian24Bio (submissions), with an immense number of submissions relating to cricket, comes in second with 1040 points. And our runner-up from last year makes their way to the top of the podium: Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Simongraham (submissions) takes gold with 1065 points, coming from another round of good articles about African jumping spiders!

The award for the most countries covered goes, once again, to Simongraham (submissions) who submitted articles under 30 flags! Vestrian24Bio (submissions) tops the chart for the most quality articles (23 good articles). Kisseran (submissions) and OpalYosutebito (submissions) tie for the award for most submissions under a single country; both made 14 submissions related to China. The award for most submissions related to women goes to GreenLipstickLesbian (submissions) with 12 biographies about women. We also have a tie for the most reviews! Both Republic of Molossia Dragonhawk12 (submissions) and Simongraham (submissions) submitted 23 reviews each for the category!

Multiple DCWC records were also broken! Simongraham (submissions) set the new record for the most total points, with 1100. Vestrian24Bio (submissions) set two inaugural records, earning the contest's first featured and good topics. GreenLipstickLesbian (submissions) submitted 29 In the news entries, 12 more than the previous record.

Among the participants' contributions were six FAs, five FLs, 132 GAs, and a number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind—far more than last year! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed to a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing your contributions again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.
