[edit]I agree that we should stop calling generative AI as AI and better to use LLMs. However I would like to ask you something not so much related since you are part of the wikiproject AI cleanup. Do you think that any LLM generated content shouldn't be uploaded to wikipedia? I've thought about this and I agree with you that LLMs can and very frequently hallucinate what it says. However I think that it does prove a lot of value and sometimes it even cites what it says, at least in the last models. So don't you think that, with exhaust revision and maybe uploading a text justifying that what it says isn't a hallucination, editors can upload AI generated content? I am part of those who hate using AI for generating pictures videos or anything, specially for comercial use. But when it comes to information I think AI is getting better and better. Its interesting that I agree with you that we should use LLMs instead of AI but since I've used AI so much it has stuck with me and its very difficult to change. Maybe its in proper papers when we should use LLMs and not in day to day talk. Btw Im new in wikipedia, this is literally my first post and im not sure I should post this or send you a private message. Im curious to hear your thoughts. - Hi Dragon, and welcome to Wikipedia!
Sorry for not responding to you for so long, I've been taking a bit of a Wikibreak this year unfortunately! - Messaging here was fine, by the way! For the record, if you ever need to tap to the shoulder of a Wikipedian for some (probably more urgent) matter, you should create a section on their talk page.
- Anyhow, my personal opinion agrees largely with the current revision of Wikipedia's policies about it, in that it should not be used at all. Primarily this comes from a place of disliking the plagiarism aspect companies in charge of creating the LLM are not required to prove that the training data was in the public domain or otherwise freely usable, so anything an LLM produces is potentially stolen from some writer. I could go on, but ultimately as you implied that would be the topic of some other, far more opinionated essay
