MCU music sandbox

[edit]

Hey, saw your sandbox for the MCU music revamp. I like the vision mirroring to the mid-credits page, but I think we can go even simpler for the films and just put the soundtrack tables under each phase heading, no notes, similar to what we have now. All that written material should go to the album pages anyways I think, and I think we keep only very high level material at the music page, such as Silvestri's work defining the Avengers themes (which are largely the most iconic for the franchise) and maybe the fanfare stuff. Thoughts? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:15, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Adding that by keeping the soundtrack tables as we currently have them, it'd avoid double tables for the Phase sections and then the release section as you have later in your sandbox. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:16, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was definitely going to ask for suggestions of improvements, because currently it is very unwieldy just trying to navigate between all the tables while I am editing haha. The reason I split it the way it is currently, is because we obviously have multiple albums and singles for some projects and that didn't really work with the new approach of having prose inside the table. But thinking about it this way, I think it would work well to have the release tables in each section and then just keep a short paragraph for any noteworthy themes / connections below. I'll give that structure a go now, because if we are going to do that then it would save me the work of having to write a short blurb for every single project, and I can save that effort for when we eventually sort out all the album pages. - adamstom97 (talk) 16:25, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I think that'll be worth an attempt! At the very least, it'll help against what we have now is just basically the table, and then editors making a subsection just sourcing who the composer is. Not very helpful! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:03, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's what I was thinking, thoughts on that structure / level of prose? Also, what do you think about the singles tables? I have removed them for now as I have been leaning towards not having them for this article or the phase articles. They don't seem to be that noteworthy and it is kind of like listing individual episodes when just a series or season level is needed. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:56, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have finished adding the references for all soundtracks and rewritten the reception section, I think it is looking quite good now and way more manageable than before. I'll wait to see if you have any feedback, especially thoughts on whether we need the singles tables here and/or at the phase articles. - adamstom97 (talk) 12:44, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey, this is really great! Here are some thoughts I have with what's there now:
- In the lead while Brian Tyler was the first composer to reference the work of another MCU composer when he quoted Silvestri's "Captain America March" from Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) this feels like trivia. Maybe we just note Tyler's contributions to the first opening theme and leave it at that
- Lead and photo caption Michael Giacchino is the most prolific MCU composer is "prolific" the best word for here?
- I think the Phase film tables should be split to original scores and compilations, if applicable. We can just use captions for each table. So for Phase One, we'd have "Phase One original soundtracks" as a caption for a table with all those, and then "Phase One compilation albums" as a caption for a table with the IM 2 AC/DC album and the Avengers Assemble album.
- For the Phase TV series tables, should we make the first column the series name, and then the second one all the individual ones? That might reduce some of the repetition in seeing, for example, "WandaVision" listed nine times. So the second column could just be piped to "Episode 1 (Original Soundtrack)" etc.
- Fanfares section: From ... with Feige reporting to to ... that was involved in earlier MCU films. we don't need this here
I agree we probably don't need the singles table, but out of the rest of the current article in the mainspace, I think we should find a way to note or include the original songs (either as their own section or integrated in the appropriate Phase section). Also, we can condense the vinyl section and put that in the Netflix section, because that was pretty notable at the time getting those releases. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:42, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the detailed feedback haha, I have worked through all those points. You can see what the transclusions would look like for each of the phase articles in my main sandbox.
For the Netflix vinyl stuff I was thinking about putting that at Marvel's Netflix television series. I have included notes throughout the sections for all the songs that have their own articles, I was trying to avoid the scope creep of the old original songs section which was including things that weren't really noteworthy outside the film or show. The only other songs I was thinking we might want to mention somewhere are "Make Way For Tomorrow, Today" and "Star Spangled Man" since they are used in multiple projects. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:14, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here are my thoughts on the original songs in the current article: "Baba Yaga Lullaby" - cut (for this and any other cut recommendations, assuming the info is all at appropriate articles); "Guardians' Inferno" - mention under the Phase 3 compilations table; "Make Way For Tomorrow, Today" - keep; "Star Spangled Man" - keep; "The Ice Cream Song" - cut; "Theme from Caged Heat 1985" - keep or incorporate in the "Short films" section, largely because it was done by Mike Post; WandaVision ones - cut; "Bulletproof Love" - keep; "I Want Your Cray Cray" - keep; "Save the City" - maybe just reexamine it's use? Only because it served as the launch pad for Rogers the Musical; "The Ballad of the Witches' Road" - cut; "Very Full" - cut; "Whatcha Gonna Do (It's Up to You)" - keep. I think we can make a "Notable original songs" section to cover all the ones I said to keep. I agree with moving the Netflix vinyl info to that article, but I think we should put a blurb in the section here too such as Each series' first season albums received vinyl releases from Mondo. I don't know where the film vinyl info should possible go, but I think we should keep it. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 19:49, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also is there a world where the Netflix table gets reorganized to be by show, not release date? Might make it a bit cleaner. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 19:55, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
We can do the Netflix table the same way as the phase TV tables, but per series instead of per season.
I'm struggling with how to phrase this, but basically I strongly disagree about the songs. If this is going to be a super high level overview of the MCU's music with almost no details about any of the scores or soundtracks, I think it would be majorly WP:UNDUE to have a section with lots of details on a few very randomly selected songs that mostly only apply to one project. I think all those details we currently have need to go to the appropriate articles. For example, we've just removed all the information about the music in Luke Cage because we think it should be covered at Luke Cage (soundtrack), but then they have to come back here for a paragraph about "Bulletproof Love"? I think that is backwards.
My thinking was: all the songs with their own article definitely get a link here and at the phase articles, and then any other songs that apply to more than one project could also get a mention because they are noteworthy at a franchise level, but we would still just be linking them to the appropriate article. So based on the current article:
  • "Baba Yaga Lullaby" - cut, only applies to Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • "Guardians' Inferno" - cut, only applies to Guardians 2
  • "Make Way For Tomorrow, Today" - multiple uses so we could mention it under the Phase One table, but the details should be at Iron Man 2 (soundtrack)
  • "Star Spangled Man" - multiple uses so we could mention it under the Phase One table, but the details should be at Captain America: The First Avenger (soundtrack)
  • "The Ice Cream Song" - cut, only applies to Multiverse of Madness
  • "Theme from Caged Heat 1985" - only applies to All Hail the King, but we could mention Mike Post in the shorts section
  • WandaVision songs - mentioned under the Phase Four table with a link for "Agatha All Along"
  • "Bulletproof Love" - cut, only applies to Luke Cage season 1
  • "I Want Your Cray Cray" - cut, only applies to Jessica Jones season 2
  • "Save the City" - I have it mentioned in the Other section along with Rogers the Musical, but maybe we should add it under the Phase Four table instead/as well?
  • "The Ballad of the Witches' Road" - linked under the Phase Five table
  • "Very Full" - cut, only applies to Lamentis
  • "Whatcha Gonna Do (It's Up to You)" - cut, only applies to A Little Song and Dance
I agree with the Netflix vinyl stuff. For the film vinyl I have thought of two options: we could put it under the Phase Three table, I know it says that it applies to the full Infinity Saga but the source that we have only covers a couple Phase Three films so I think it could fit there; or we could change the Infinity Saga concert experience section to be some kind of general Infinity Saga collections section that includes the vinyl releases + the concert? Just spitballing with those ideas. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:30, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I understand where you are coming from with the songs. I was somewhat of the opposite in that, yes the article as a whole need an immense rework/cut down, but I still felt we should highlight some of the original songs created for projects, especially ones that also appear on soundtracks. We largely agreed with cutting most of them, but say "Bulletproof Love" for example. Yes it only applied to the one season/episode, but it appeared on the soundtrack. But I also hear what you're saying on if we're removing all the Luke Cage music info, does it fit anymore. I don't know right now, but I think maybe there's a middle ground somewhere with some of these songs that we disagree about cutting or not. If you choose to open this up to other comments from folks, they could have some ideas as well. I'll try and think on this. Good about the Netflix table change and the vinyl stuff. I don't think the film vinyl stuff fits with the concert experience, so try the Phase 3 section? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 21:00, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have sorted the Netflix table and the vinyl summaries, plus I have added back in the Original songs section as an overview of in-universe original songs. I kept it as a bullet point summary as I still think the majority of details for individual songs or projects belong at the respective soundtrack or project pages. Thoughts? Anything else we need to consider? - adamstom97 (talk) 11:49, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was going to message you shortly that this was still on my radar even thought I'm just getting back after my break. I think that all looks great!! Should we be saying Several original songs have been created as in-universe music for MCU projects? I don't really love that wording, but can't really put to words what else I'd want it to be. Just a flag, but nothing major. And the only other thing I noticed when I wanted to look at the Cray Cray sources, the ref for that (and maybe others) might just need a formatting check. But if you want to make these changes, go for it! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:39, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I wanted to reflect that this was a list of noteworthy in-universe songs rather than real world original songs so we don't end up getting those merged in, but wasn't sure of the best way to word that. I have found fictional song which is specifically for in-universe songs/music, we can link to that to avoid the "in-universe" wording. - adamstom97 (talk) 09:01, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
And the changes are live! Thank you for all your feedback and help with this, it took us a few years but we finally got the page in a much better state - adamstom97 (talk) 10:14, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for tackling it! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 12:35, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Reversion of edit on Star Wars: The Clone Wars

[edit]

I noticed you reverted my edit on the article description for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I was editing it to remove "TV series or program to have it just say "TV series." I wasn't adding a new description. Is there a way to do that from the infobox? Because it seems like that's a default that gets put on all TV shows, and should be made more specific on a case-by-case basis. Packer1028 (talk) 13:09, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not sure about that, I agree it isn't ideal. You can restore that edit if you want, but I would raise the concern at Template talk:Infobox television to see if it can be fixed properly. - adamstom97 (talk) 13:23, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll try to remember. I usually just make the changes as I come across the "TV series or program" description, and most of the well-known TV shows have already been changed, but I'll try to remember to raise this issue. Packer1028 (talk) 03:13, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
