Parishes
[edit]Hi is there a particular reason in your rewrites of the articles about the Lancashire unitaries you've dropped the information about parishes? Morwen (talk) 17:08, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's quite fine detail for this point in the process and I don't want to overwhelm readers. Once the authorities are established it might be worth re-introducing that sort of detail to the lead. A.D.Hope (talk) 17:15, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- hard disagree on this one - and i think its safe to assume that the editor who added this would also agree with me here though we can page them in if you like? Morwen (talk) 17:20, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Why do you disagree? From my perspective, explaining this reorganisation is complicated enough without introducing civil parishes, which are not directly relevant to it. A.D.Hope (talk) 17:39, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- well for one thing it is fairly usual for articles about local govenment districts to contain mentions of parishes and unparished areas - but also it is directly relevant to municipal continuity - in some of the counties being reorganised it has already been announced that town councils will be created in some of the unparished areas, or that charter trustees will be appointed. There are two cities in lancashire that will have to do this or likely lose the distinction of being cities. it also is not like it was overwhelming the article with a complete list of parishes - it was a very short passage. Morwen (talk) 17:51, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- If you can properly source a list of the parishes that will be in the new unitary authority areas then feel free to add them to the body of the articles. I don't have any objection to that. They'll also have to be mentioned in the 'Background' section or equivalent when describing districts that are being divided along civil parish lines.
- I do not think the lead of these articles is the right place to mention civil parishes at present. We are already throwing non-metropolitan counties, non-metropolitan districts, unitary authority areas, and their respective councils at readers, which is a lot to take in. Adding civil parishes as well isn't beneficial. A.D.Hope (talk) 17:59, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- sure, they were only in the "lead" because the articles didnt really have sections. it is very easy to source this info - election-maps.co.uk is what I've been using for other articles. in lancashire there are no districts that are being split so there is no need for that extra complication. i've just worked out what was going on with the part of my earlier message i deleted btw - "The settlements in Fylde Coast will include Blackburn, Burnley, Nelson, and Rawtenstall. The population of the new area is approximately 520,653" is in article text on Pennine Lancashire. Morwen (talk) 19:23, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Ah, that must have slipped through! Fixed now, ta A.D.Hope (talk) 19:25, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just added the unparished areas and the statement that the rest of the district is parished, if areas are parished before on on 1 April 2028 it can be removed as this is only relevant to say what the area that will become the new unitary is now. With districts with many parishes the statement "the rest of the district is parished" might well be best but for districts with fewer parishes listing them might be best. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:51, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- No worries. As I say, I've got no objections to the parishes being covered in the body and I know you've got plenty of experience with them. A.D.Hope (talk) 04:43, 28 July 2026 (UTC)

Fylde Coast
[edit]I think you left out a "not" in your edit summary here - you might want to do a dummy edit to add a correction?
I agree that we don't need bold for "West Lancashire" because no-one will land at Fylde Coast by typing West Lancashire PamD 20:23, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- I did leave out a 'not', which is why I made the full comment on the talk page to explain my edit. Given there's only a few of us actively editing the page I'm hopeful that will sort out any confusion :) A.D.Hope (talk) 04:40, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
