Your draft article, Draft:Henry Gordon Thunder

[edit]

Hello, 4meter4. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Henry Gordon Thunder".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 16:45, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Liz: I am not sure whether this was technically "my draft". I believe I separated it out from the draft on Henry Gordon Thunder, Sr. because there was a confusion of father and son that was made by FloridaArmy (talk · contribs). I rewrote the article on the senior member of the family and left the draft on Henry Gordon Thunder, Jr. for FlordiaArmy to finish/work on as that user wanted to. You might want to make that editor aware of the deletion, because I personally think of this article as FlordiaArmy's project. Best.4meter4 (talk) 16:53, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Double redirects and wrong targets of Yuri articles

[edit]

Hi, I attempted to fix a double redirect you created at Yuri (footballer, born 1998) but honestly there are so many footballers, many of which have recently been at AFD, I was unable to deal with this adequately. You set Yuri Araújo as a redirect to Yuri Tanque but Tanque was discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yuri (footballer, born 1998) and Araújo at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yuri (footballer, born April 1996) so these are different people. Please clean up this mess. C679 07:30, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Cloudz679: I don't see how that's possible. I literally just moved the title as stated in the close of each individual AFD. You set Yuri Araújo as a redirect to Yuri Tanque That wouldn't happen with a page move as I did it.4meter4 (talk) 14:04, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Missing Topics List

[edit]

Really happy to see you still working from the missing topics list. Found another list that seems quite useful: User:Skysmith/Missing topics about Music. Thought it might be of interest. – Aza24 (talk) 02:30, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • @Aza24: Thanks. Some of the items on that list are worthy, but many seem implausible or are already covered under another name/title . For example medieval music notation would in reality be neumatic notation. Sources wouldn't call it "medieval music notation", but that is the type of notation that existed in the medieval period. I'm seeing a lot of that type of thing on that list where the person clearly identified a topic in their own mind, but didn't actually look at what the topic is called in the literature, or bring any informed opinion into making a red link. Other terms like "feminine basso" are neologisms without sufficient sourcing in reliable literature to pass WP:NOTNEO and WP:GNG. Functional tenor is a term in semiotics/linguistics, but it has nothing to do with music. Etc.
At least the with music encyclopedia list, the red-linked words are specifically pulled from published reference books on music, so the topics are usually notable and likely to have sourcing under that title. Another example would be gourd instruments. We already cover most of the gourd instruments Category:Gourd musical instruments with individual articles on each instrument. They wouldn't be discussed as a group or set in the literature because there are gourd instruments from many different cultures made from different types of gourds, and they aren't really related to one another culturally as they come from different people groups with different music heritages. The thinking behind a lot of that list is flawed. In short, I wouldn't go around plugging this list because it has many problematic entries along with some good ones (most of which are already in the missing topics list). Best. 4meter4 (talk) 03:27, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, quite so, but I suspect most if not all the entries would be plausible redirects or disambiguations. By the way, a medieval music notation article would probably be most helpful to track the influence of the systems (which is definitely in RS). There is more than just Neume (Mensural notation), and the Neume article rightly so talks much about non-Western cultures. But then there are plenty of articles we don't have (medieval music theory, history of Western notation etc.) which it might better redirect to).
In any case, are you still starting with the As of the music encyclopedia list? I'd like to continue with the Zs at some point (you may remember I worked on Zmaga Kumer and Zygmunt Szweykowski), perhaps we will meet in the middle somewhere. Aza24 (talk) 03:47, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Aza24: True. I agree with the thought process that a history of music notation would be useful and a redirect could then be placed at medieval music notation. I might choose to limit it to a history of western music notation, as there are non-Western forms from India for example which I wouldn't want to attempt to incorporate due to my own lack of knowledge in that area. As for "working on the As", I'm actually not working alphabetically or systematically. I tend to hop around topics as chipping away at a big list systematically can sometimes be tedious/overwhelming. At the moment I am not focusing on red links but blue links. My goal is to identify whether the blue link is there because someone created a page, and just never got removed from the list, or to identify if we still need music coverage at that blue link. I'm basically taking the time to create articles where needed; source or expand stubs or poorly written articles; and remove the blue link once fixed. The List of operas based on the Andromeda myth for example came from thinking about the blue linked Andromeda, and Anglaise (dance) came about through the blue linked Anglaise. I'll keep chipping away at blue links on an on-again, off-again basis. Best.4meter4 (talk) 04:11, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Andromeda myth

[edit]

I read: "The myth tells of the tale of Andromeda, the daughter of Queen Cassiopeia and King Cepheus of Aethiopia. Cassiopeia has angered the Nereids sea nymphs by boasting the she is more beautiful than they. The Nereids appeal to Poseidon who threatens the safety of Aethiopia as punishment. In order to appease him, Cassiopeia and Cepheus offer up Andromeda as a human sacrifice. She is stripped naked and is chained to a rock in Jaffa with the intent that she be consumed by the sea creature Cetus sent by Poseidon. She is rescued by Perseus, fresh from his defeat of the Gorgon Medusa, who arrives by flight on winged sandals or a Pegasus." I don't want to make changes in the article, so just questions (and it may be my lack of language).

  • My first problem with it is that this longish description of the myth seems not to be the right way to begin the lead of this list, which is about operas about it. The lead needs just a short version of the myth (if at all, a link might be enough), perhaps that she was offered naked as a sacrifice, but rescued by Perseus. The longish version should go to the body, imho.
  • "tells of the tale" sounds redundant.
  • Ethiopia?
  • I'd turn the last sentence around: "She is rescued by Perseus, who arrives by flight on winged sandals or a Pegasus, fresh from his defeat of the Gorgon Medusa. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: I've moved the plot down into the body as proposed, and modified the text as suggested. Aethiopia is a common geographical term in classical Greek mythology referenced in the Odyssey and the Iliad among other sources of Greek myth. The modern country of Ethiopia was unknown to the Ancient Greeks.4meter4 (talk) 22:35, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the article, and for keeping the topic opera on DYK. When I look at today's lead hook, saying nothing than that a woman received a box of pears, and think of the rejection of role hooks, although most roles come with a good story, I don't know what to say. Just saw Meistersinger on stage for the first time, two fantastic singers for Sachs and Stolzing, and an excellent cast overall. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:34, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Congrats to the Lully-soprano DYK. I can only hope readers will find out what inspiration she must have been for one of the leading composers of their era, from reading "a French soprano". I would not have clicked without feeling project opera responsibility ;) - I have two topics in the OTD corner - check out story and music, I decided for Verdi (the conductor who said "I love all of Verdi" and conducted by heart) over Bach because that cantata sits on sort of the wrong date ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:09, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bach composed a cantata for today's feast, performed 300 years ago. This time the main page has it on the right date. I nominated it for GA ;) - Also waiting for a review (at WP:ITNN): Maureen Jones, - someone said the article isn't good enough for the main page. We could change that! Already arrived there: Bryan Kelly and his fun Magnificat. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:28, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: Congrats on the Bach cantata. My most recent work has been on a forgotten tenor, Albert Lindquest, who is perhaps better remembered today for his impact as a voice teacher by the name of Aaron Rogers Lindquest. He was a tangle to write on because he had so many changing names. I may take this to DYK after I give it some more thought. I also created Marcelle Bunlet who is at DYK. I have also been involved in co-expanding Aage Fønss (this could be featured but I can't seem to grab onto a hook I like), and alone, expanding Peter Cornelius, Mirjana Bohanec, and Miklos Bencze; although these last ones were not expanded enough to meet DYK's 5x rule. I expanded Alexander Baillie as well, but a family emergency came up and I wasn't able to nominate in the time. I also sourced Alexander Campbell and copy edited it. Glad your projects are going well. Thanks for checking in.4meter4 (talk) 03:45, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Ballets by genre

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Category:Ballets by genre indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 23:50, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Liz: Unfortunately we have a tiny group of editors systemically gutting the ballet tree down to nothing. I completely disagree with what has been done, but CFD is poorly attended and the editors there often have a narrow take on categorization that isn't always in service to what's best for a topic area. I wish we would just bundle CFD into AFD, because the category discussions would be much more robust and better attended. As you can see, we now have a large topic artform losing categorization by genre; making it the only major artform not categorized in that way. Nothing to be done now, even though less than four editors participated in these discussions. I find CFD aggravating.4meter4 (talk) 00:43, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

We can't thank you enough for having expanded Martina Arroyo while she was alive! I wonder if some of the early Eropean concerts could be moved to the earlier section, - it's a bit strange to see her most youthful image after retired from the stage. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:55, 15 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Just found this obit from Diapason, in French but with a great image. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:02, 15 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: If you want to move some of the concert literature earlier that would ok, but I caution to not move too much to keep the section a managable size. An additional paragraph would be ok, but anymore it would be unreadable (ie WP:WALLOFTEXT). I think the reader can understand the need to separate content into logical content areas. We can't always be perfectly chronological with someone who had a varied career. The Diapason mag obit doesn't have anything new to say, and some of the generalities in the article (such as that Arrroyo was from a wealthy famiily) are not true. Her dad was an engineer with a good salary (middle class) but certainly no millionaire, and her mother stayed at home. As a source for the article its not of much value. The picture is good.4meter4 (talk) 15:16, 15 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I moved the Stockhausen, and only that, to Barber and Hindemith. - I wonder if her degree in languages and the depth of language studies should be mentioned in the lead, along with teaching. It seems rare. - The list of internatioal houses there might perhaps be shorter, - it's all the ones you'd expect. - For some reason I don't know, Arroyo was the first Black soprano I noticed in life, before Price and Anderson. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:46, 15 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It is interesting, but I don't think central enough to her fame or career to warrant being in the lead. The body should have its interesting surprises not found elsewhere.4meter4 (talk) 15:51, 15 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
