hello hi, I'm ZonResearcher (or just Zon or Zonrir which is where I'm known as everywhere else outside of Wikipedia) I upload tropical cyclone images, and edit pages mostly related to tropical cyclones. im usually active on the atlantic side, however i also occasionally edit pages for other basins such as the western pacific. to see my contributions, you can either click on contributions above the search bar or just click on This :D
QnA
Where do i get my Tropical Cyclone Images from?: i mainly use NASA Worldview to obtain tropical cyclone images, Occasionally when satellite data isn’t available or isnt fully loaded ill go to RAMMB/CIRA Slider or Triple-A-Tropics to gather tropical cyclone imagery I usually label triple-a-tropics as AWS S3 explorer since it's Satellite plot data is extracted from there. If you have a question about any of these, my talk page is open for any questions. I'm also available in the WPTC server
Examples of what I upload (i should be adding this to commons but it is what it is)
Example 1 Daytime Polar Orbiting Imagery (True Color) this is what I mostly upload and is the most common coming from me. Terra-MODIS will most likely be taken when a tropical cyclone peaks during the morning or when data isn't available (or if there's missing data). Aqua-MODIS, Suomi-NPP (up until November 1, 2026 since that's the day where data will stop being sourced) NOAA-20 & NOAA-21 during the afternoon if the tropical cyclone reaches its peak around that time .
Example 2 Geostationary GOES Imagery (True Color) another method that I use often. most of the time I just upload these for fun or have nothing else to do at that moment. However, these kind of images will be used if the tropical cyclone peaks if the Polar-orbiting satellite data isn't available at that moment.
Example 3 Geostationary Himawari Imagery (True Color) Just like GOES Images, this is another method that I use often. most of the time I just upload these for fun or have nothing else to do at that moment. However, these kind of images will be used if the tropical cyclone peaks if the Polar-orbiting satellite data isn't available at that moment.
Example 4 Nighttime Imagery (Day/Night Band) This is my second most common uploads. The only con is that I have to wait until the moon reaches its Waxxing Gibbous phase, which takes Approximately takes about 7 to 14 days for it to reach that point. Aside from that, this will be used if the tropical cyclones peak is taken at night or in the early morning.
Example 5 Nighttime IR Band (Band I5/31) I don't usually upload these very often, if I do they're only used in a last resort type of situation (between a new moon to the half moon) THEY'RE MOSTLY USED if the storm's peak is 5%+ higher (in knots) than the storm's intensity at sunset or sunrise or if the storm's structure appears better compared to the last of the true-color visible imagery.
Example 6 EUMETSAT Satellite imagery. These types of images aren't intended to be used for lead images, especially if it reaches its peak. I usually upload these as a placeholder when the poloar-orbiting passes haven't directly pass through the tropical cyclone.
Example 7 Satellite pictures of Extratropical Cyclones. I usually upload these during the winter. during the time where tropical cyclone activity is suppressed, however since systems like these occur nearly everyday. I'll tend to upload them
Example 8 Edits of other tropical cyclone images. One of my rarer uploads. I upload these usually out of boredom or if an image needs a huge touchup.
Where do i get my information about Tropical Cyclones From?: i get alot of my information from National Hurricane Center, i also track tropical cyclones using Triple A Tropics, the JMA and JTWC Websites for Tropical Cyclones in the Eastern Hemisphere. and GFS Models from Tropical TidbitsBold textHow long do you plan on staying in the Wikipedia space?: i dont really plan on leaving or retiring anytime soon, since this is one of my hobbies after all :3
