Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level
Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Persistent sockpuppetry. SteamManx (talk) 02:15, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Curbon7 (talk) 06:43, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – WP:TRYUNPROT failed. dualcerbtalk 15:17, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Edit warring over the second district similar to the other pages fully protected. Requesting 11 day full protection. ~2026-59053-78 (talk) 16:15, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Dr vulpes (Talk) 16:39, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – WP:TRYUNPROT failed miserably + consensus for brands not to appear as the TWAFI. Only do semi protection for now given that none of the vandals are autoconfirmed. dualcerbtalk 18:59, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

+1 This is why I almost ever endorse unprotecting indefnitely protected articles. Giovanni Potage (talk) 00:59, 7 November 2026 (UTC)
@MCE89 Thanks for projecting the page, but I'd like to point out that it was indefnitely protected in 2014, in case you weren't aware. Protection was lifted a few weeks back as a WP:TRYUNPROT trial. I think it would be best to restore the status quo instead of setting a expiration set. Giovanni Potage (talk) 04:46, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – 2 years wasn't enough. dualcerbtalk 19:18, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of five years, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Left guide (talk) 19:47, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – 3 year protection didn't work. dualcerbtalk 19:41, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

+1 I second this. For some reason Half Life fans love to target the All Dogs trilogy. Giovanni Potage (talk) 01:03, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Continuous unproductive edits including MOS:GENDERID violations. Also note that this page falls under the CTOPs of gender ID and contemporary American politics. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 20:09, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Front page vandalism. In solidarity, Jalen Barks (Woof) 21:22, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Declined. This article is currently featured on the Main Page as This Week's Article for Improvement. The purpose is to encourage readers to make their first edits and understand how Wikipedia works. Protection would defeat the object. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 23:27, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Reason: IP account trying to forcefully restore old content from a serial WP:SOCK Chathu69. - UtoD 22:09, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Persistent vandalism – Article subject was recently enthralled in a major scandal, and so naturally people vandalize the hell out of their article. Giovanni Potage (talk) 00:57, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Dr vulpes (Talk) 05:12, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Same person keeps coming to the article on sock accounts and trying to add unconfirmed information or incorrect information, such as the residency of the perpetrator, his full name, and the exact vehicle used in the attack. Raskuly 🐰 01:14, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Edit warring among new and temporary accounts. On 7 November 2026, within four hours, five new or temporary accounts edited the article. One added a one-sided "Dispute" section, one removed the {{COI}} tag, one added unsourced allegations of crimes against named living people (reverted by APK), and one restored an earlier version. The same pattern is happening on the Indonesian Wikipedia article. I am involved (I wrote the 30 October expansion) and make no request about which version should stand. VincentiusYa'akov (talk) 09:03, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Although the page has not seen frequent vandalism, all other years recorded on wikipedia are checked even years after they have occured. It is important 2002 gets checked (pending changes) protection to prevent false misinformation to get into the year's article 55618sh (talk) 09:22, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Reason: I would like to go one (1) (ONE) day without being hounded, I have expressed this repeatedly and politely, and people are callous enough that they refuse to do it on their own free will. Hounding is a violation of policy but apparently policy only flows one way. Gnomingstuff (talk) 14:33, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Reason: Now that both Messi and Ronaldo have retired from international soccer, their rivalry is no longer as competitive as it used to be. Therefore, ECP on their articles is no longer really necessary; I think it would be worth it to try semi-protection because they are no longer current international football players. MathMan4 (talk) 01:09, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Pinging @El C Daniel Case (talk) 01:59, 6 November 2026 (UTC)
Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. First, this is noted as an arbitration enforcement protection. Second, this is the BLP of one of the most famous footballers in the world who just announced their retirement from the national team and their page views shot up to over 100,000 views yesterday. Talk page edit requests are working fine here. Ponyobons mots 17:20, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

I disagree with the rationale. Messi and Ronaldo are much more than their international football careers. They won't immediately lose attention, including from vandals, just because they've retired from international play; heck, I'd doubt they'd even lose relevance years down the line. Yue🌙 (talk) 07:47, 6 November 2026 (UTC)
no Declined for essentially the same reasons provided in the Cristiano Ronaldo request. These are both very poor candidates for lowered protection.-- Ponyobons mots 17:22, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Remove the word "alleged" from the first paragraph. I cannot see any way to justify this phrasing. The US provides the bulk of weapons the IDF uses to commit genocide. That's not an allegation, that's a matter of public record. And, if you provide weapons that are used in a genocide, you have helped that genocide. That's just plain English. The current phrasing is confusing and potentially seriously misleading. Kcrisck (talk) 17:17, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

I have been editing since May last year and have created more than 25 articles. Two of them are rated B‑class, and most of the others are C‑class or Start‑class. Two of my articles, Presley Gerber and Killing of Sonia Exelby, were nominated for deletion because of differing views on their notability, but both were kept. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsShandog (talk • contribs) 11:59, 22 October 2026 (UTC)

Hi @ItsShandog, could you explain how you created Brendan MegrawBrendan Megraw in Diff/1290863082? Why did you use the {{navbox}} template in Diff/1290872406 and how did you produce that in such a short amount of time? Why did you remove the {{ai-generated}} tag (added in Diff/1348062842), along with utm_source=chatgpt.com parameters, in Diff/1348070103 and then restore the original redirect in Diff/1379884757 a couple of months later? ‑‑gurkubondinn 14:59, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
That would have been around the time I was new to Wikipedia from what I can recall, and looking at it now, it was days after I joined when I would have used ChatGPT. That was before I knew much about AI or about Wikipedia. I stopped using it a long time ago, as I saw how unreliable it was even before the ban on Wikipedia. I cannot explain the navbox, as I have no idea what that is. I would assume it was something to do with ChatGPT at that time. In regard to restoring it to a redirect, that was more to do with the fact that I was editing the disappeared page that covers all those people, and the page more or less repeats the same thing. It does not have any more information than the disappeared page. It was not anything to do with my old edits, as I did not even notice the ChatGPT bit on it. I forgot about that edit, as it was over a year ago. If I had remembered, I would have gone back and fixed all of that, but it is better as a redirect anyway. ItsShandog (talk) 15:17, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
The reason for the removal of the AI part was that this was at the point when I did not use it anymore, but I had not fixed the page at that stage, so I should not have removed it. That was my own fault. There were so many pages I would have edited when I was new that I could not remember them all, but any I come across now I try to fix. I probably removed the ChatGPT part because I would have assumed that was what the template was referring to. That would have been me trying to fix the page, but to be honest I did not know the ins and outs of AI until recently, or all the different ways it is incorrect. Even back in April I just assumed a page was tagged with that because it had old links from ChatGPT and that type of thing. It is only when I have started to read the AI signs page on Wikipedia that I have learned about all the different things it does. If I had known that in April, I would have done a lot of copyediting and fixing of that page. ItsShandog (talk) 15:21, 24 October 2026 (UTC)

I would like to request the autopatrolled user right. My previous request was declined due to a copyright-related concern. I acknowledge the feedback and remain committed to complying with Wikipedia's copyright policy and content guidelines.

I request a reassessment of my article-creation record and subsequent contributions. Thanks Biplab Anand (Talk) 01:42, 19 October 2026 (UTC)

@Biplab Anand, did you use an LLM to generate this request? Dclemens1971 (talk) 23:18, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
NGL, yes. My bad. I understood your concern that I've used LLM for making this request. However, my contributions, article creation and editing are all genuine of my own, plagiarism free and aware of the copyright policies and core principles of Wikipedia. I pledge that I'll not repeat this mistake in future. Thanks and I hope you understand my case. Biplab Anand (Talk) 14:22, 5 November 2026 (UTC)
@Biplab Anand, thank you for being transparent. Using LLMs to generate talk page comments is not allowed per WP:AITALK and is a sign of a serious lapse in judgment. I don't see obvious LLM use in your recent creations, or else I'd open up a case at WP:AINB. But the fact that you used an LLM to generate your request for a trusted permission is a prima facie reason not to grant the trusted permission. We need to be able have confidence that you are communicating with us in your own words. Beyond the LLM issue, several of your recent creations (Kamini Kumari Chaudhary, Lalita Kumari Sah, Amrita B.K., Member of Parliament, Rastriya Sabha) are missing necessary citations and that would be an Autopatrolled blocker as well.  Not done. Dclemens1971 (talk) 18:51, 5 November 2026 (UTC)

I know that I don't have 25 new articles yet, but some comments at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/2026 backlog discussion/RFC phase#Q3: Reduced requirements for autopatrolled suggested that it's not unusual for people with fewer than that to still be granted Autopatrolled, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, and worst case if it's not time for me to get it now I can ask again at some future point. My main contributions are 4 articles created from scratch, and 5 articles destubbed. All nine of those articles were accepted for the Did You Know section on the home page. I've also created a few redirects and disambiguation pages. I think I have a reasonable grasp of the sourcing, notability, and other policies. And for what it's worth, I already have Autopatrolled on Wikimedia Commons. Thank you for considering me. PeterCooperJr (talk) 20:30, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has created roughly 5 articles. — MusikBot talk 20:30, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
I saw that comment and it's not my experience that this happens much if at all. You are off to a great start and I am impressed with your work, but grants below the the 25-article threshold aren't common. I'll leave this request open, however, in case another admin wants to action it. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:59, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
I'm inclined to agree with Dclemens1971 here; your work so far is looking good, PeterCooperJr, keep it up! However, autopatrolled is a permission for editors who both create a significant number of new articles and have a substantial track record on which an administrator can make their decision. I'm not seeing those right now, so this is  not done for the moment. I encourage you to reapply once you have a little more experience under your belt! —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 18:56, 5 November 2026 (UTC)

@3vw5, is this the only task you want to use AutoWikiBrowser for? If so, you should ask at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 18:31, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
Currently yes. Janes is a well known source for military articles. The issue will be recurring. I am even fine with a temporary permission 3vw5 (talk) 07:05, 27 October 2026 (UTC)

I'd like to access the autowikibrowser to use the find and replace tool to change the constituencies for Welsh places with the infobox field constituency_welsh_assembly, as there are certainly hundreds of places in Wales with the old constituencies in their infoboxes. Otherwise, if there's a more appropriate tool for that kind of thing I'd like to know. Mr Cadno (talk) 18:43, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

Requests for confirmation

Confirmed

[edit]

I request early confirmed status for this account. I have been contributing biographical articles on the Portuguese Wikipedia and have prepared Draft:Lorena Betts in English with citations to English-language reporting and official sources. I encountered the account permission restriction when trying to move the draft to the article title Lorena Betts and connect it with pt:Lorena Betts. I understand that confirmed status does not constitute approval of the draft or exemption from content policies, and that the usual route to autoconfirmation is four days since the first edit and ten edits on English Wikipedia. If early confirmation is not appropriate, I would appreciate guidance on the appropriate draft-review or move-request route. Ludsonaiello (talk) 16:16, 5 November 2026 (UTC)

Extended confirmed

[edit]

Reason for requesting extended confirmed rights Hello dear Wikipedia admin team! I would like to request the additional rights. I'm currently adding a lot new points to the List of German rail accidents (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Ben.0105). I also want to create new articles for some of the accidents. Many of them are already available in German and I want to translate them to English. Right now this is not possible due to the limitation of my permissions. If you have any questions please reach out, I'm very happy to answer them! Ben.0105 (talk) 20:06, 5 November 2026 (UTC)

Comment: Extended confirmed is generally not granted for users with less than 500 edits unless they have an alternate account with the extended confirmed permission. Also, you have only 17 edits in the mainspace, so you don't have enough experience to request this permission. While I understand your edits are large, you still need more experience. I'm hoping to help with the backlog. I am already an AfC reviewer. Why? I Ask (talk) 00:36, 4 November 2026 (UTC)

Good track record based on my review at AfC and AfD.  Done for a three-month trial period, after which you may request the perm on a permanent basis. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:35, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

I am a fairly experienced editor who works in RfD, edits articles about video games, computer viruses, politics, sometimes clean up AI, and i also occasionally do tagging on whatever I see when I hit the random link. I'm looking to join new pages reviewing because I do believe I fit the criteria. (I do stupid things occasionally that might have lowered me out of the criteria, though either way I think I could work effectively in new pages). | One Reaction was here. Got a complaint? 21:00, 6 November 2026 (UTC)

Not done. You have 179 undeleted mainspace edits and the minimum is 500. You have created no mainspace pages and your AfD record does not show depth of knowledge of our core policies and guidelines that apply to new page reviewing. To gain experience before you re-apply, consider participating more at AfD, improving your participation at WP:AINB, and, down the road, applying to become an WP:AFC reviewer.  Not done I'm concerned by several recent and valid concerns about incorrect reverts on your user talk page. I think some more experience is needed with regards to knowing when to revert an edit, and distinguishing vandalism from good-faith edits, before you're ready for this permission. DanCherek (talk) 15:50, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Hello,

I am requesting this because I want to expand my reviewing and anti-vandalism toolset and have more opportunities to do anti-vandalism work. While I am relatively new, I have experience, as you can see on the Simple English Wikipedia. I understand vandalism, BLP, and copyright policies, and I have read the review guidelines. Again, while I am relatively new, I think this would help me achieve my anti-vandalism goal, and I hope you can at least suggest how to get this permission.

Thank you, ExplorerofUniverse ExplorerofUniverse (talk) 03:09, 7 November 2026 (UTC)

Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

I would like to request rollback rights. I do a lot of recent changes patrolling, and I think the rollback function and the tools that require the right would prove very helpful to me while patrolling. A while ago, I requested the rights and then realized I did not have 200 mainspace edits, so I withdrew my request. However, I should now have over 200 edits in the mainspace, and would appreciate if I could be granted the right. Thanks! Bucket of Bubbles (talk) 23:44, 21 October 2026 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has had 1 request for rollback declined or withdrawn in the past 90 days (). — MusikBot talk 01:40, 24 October 2026 (UTC)

After a very long time since I last made a rollback request, I've been racking up more main space edits and have been doing patrol in general. I'm requesting the right so I can use more powerful tools like huggle, as well as make my existing use of Twinkle faster.
