Lithobius forficatus, commonly known as the garden centipede, the brown centipede or the stone centipede, is a species of centipede in the family Lithobiidae, found in Europe and North America. Adults have fifteen pairs of legs, while juveniles hatch with seven pairs and acquire additional pairs as they molt. A fast-moving predator, L.forficatus feeds on insects and other invertebrates, using venom-bearing modified front legs to subdue its prey. Although venomous, the species is harmless to humans. This L.forficatus centipede was photographed in Grunewald, in Berlin, Germany.Photograph credit: Alexis Tinker-Tsavalas
