Frederick Theodore Haneman (20 September 1863 Wolgast, Province of Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia, now Germany)

Education

Haneman attended studied medicine in Germany at University of Greifswald and University of Greifswald in Germany. In 1888, he emigrated to the United States graduated from New York University in 1891 with and Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Dr. Charles David Spivak (1861–1927), of Denver, Colorado, contributes an article on medicine as practiced in biblical (c. 1200 BCE–400 BCE) and Talmudic (c. 200 BCE–600 CE) periods, while Dr. Frederick T. Haneman presents a study of post-Talmudic medical science. The bibliography accompanying Spivak’s article spans an entire column, and Haneman’s contribution concludes with a list of leading Jewish physicians then practicing in Europe and the United States.

In the realm of rabbinic scholarship, the journal also includes significant contributions on both legendary and legal Midrash (i.e., Midrash halakha, the rabbinic interpretation of biblical law) by Dr. Julius Theodor (1849–1923), Rabbi of Bojanowo in the Province of Posen.

Annotation: Spivak's encyclopedia entry on Medicine in the Bible and Talmud is found in the library (86), graduated Jefferson Medical College in 1890.
