[edit]The Kennedys are an American political family of Irish ancestry. Their political involvement began in 1884, when P. J. Kennedy was elected to the Massachusetts legislature. His son, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., then served as US ambassador to the United Kingdom in the late 1930s. Joseph's children included John F. Kennedy, the 35th US president; Robert F. Kennedy, an attorney general and senator; and Ted Kennedy, who served in the Senate for more than 46 years. More recently, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became US secretary of health and human services in 2025.
