L. S. C. Maciel is a Brazilian biologist working in the fields of zoology, ecology, and biodiversity conservation, with emphasis on herpetology and applied conservation ecology.

I am currently a master's student in Biodiversity in Protected Areas at the Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro (ENBT/JBRJ), Brazil. My research focuses on ecological interactions between amphibians and bromeliads in Atlantic Forest environments, particularly within the RPPN Gigante do Itaguaré, located in the Serra da Mantiqueira region of southeastern Brazil.

My academic background includes a degree in Biology and postgraduate specialization training in Zoology, Ecology, and Environmental Management. My work focuses on wildlife surveys, biodiversity monitoring, and applied ecological research, particularly involving amphibians and reptiles associated with Atlantic Forest ecosystems.

I also have experience in faunal inventories, spatial ecology, and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for biodiversity research and conservation planning.

Academic work

[edit]

My master's research investigates ecological relationships between amphibians and bromeliads in Atlantic Forest environments. The project focuses on species occurrence, habitat use, and ecological interactions involving bromeliad-associated amphibians in the RPPN Gigante do Itaguaré.

I am also involved in broader biodiversity surveys conducted in the same protected area, including research on herpetofauna and mammals.

Professional activities

[edit]

My professional activities include environmental consulting and biodiversity monitoring projects. Work involves:

  • wildlife surveys and biodiversity monitoring
  • management and assessment of native vegetation
  • ecological field surveys in Atlantic Forest environments
  • development of technical environmental reports
  • application of GIS and spatial analysis in conservation planning

I also participate in environmental education activities and technical training related to wildlife monitoring and biodiversity research.

Current projects

[edit]
  • Herpetofauna survey in the RPPN Gigante do Itaguaré
  • Mastofauna survey in the same protected area
  • Ecological research on amphibian–bromeliad interactions in Atlantic Forest ecosystems

Technical and outreach activities

[edit]

Activities include the development of technical reports, biodiversity monitoring initiatives, and training courses on ecological monitoring methods.

Short courses and workshops have included topics such as:

  • biodiversity data analysis
  • camera trap monitoring techniques
  • wildlife monitoring in Atlantic Forest ecosystems

I am also involved in science communication and wildlife photography related to biodiversity and conservation.
