Chase Bennett Lerew (born October 16, 2001) is an American Catholic and educator.

Early life and education

Lerew was born on October 16, 2001 in Lawrenceville, Georgia to parents Paul and Karen (née Bennett) Lerew. He has a younger brother, Logan.

Boy Scouts

After beginning elementary school, he became involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout in Pack 499. In 2012, he earned his Arrow of Light and "crossed over" into Troop 499. In October 2019, Lerew completed his Eagle Scout project, an outdoor classroom at Grayson High School, where he attended.

He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in March of 2015 as an Ordeal member of Mowogo Lodge. He served as Lau-in-nih Chapter's Vice Chief of Membership and two terms as Chapter Chief. In April 2021, he served as Section SR-9 Conclave Expo Chair for the annual event held at Camp Benjamin Hawkins, which saw over 700 attendees. In March of 2022, he was selected for the Vigil Honor and completed his vigil in May that year.

He began his Woodbadge, but failed to complete his tickets in the allotted time, and so was not awarded his beads.

He served on the summer camp staff at Camp Rainey Mountain in the scout skills department in Summer 2022.

Education

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he completed his senior year through digital learning. He graduated virtually from Grayson High School in May of 2020. Following his graduation, Lerew took a gap year, before enrolling at Georgia Gwinnett College in August of 2021. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in History in 2025. Following this, he enrolled in a Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of North Georgia and is expected to graduate in Spring 2027.

Conversion to Catholicism

Lerew was raised in a Methodist household but never felt an authentic relationship with God. During his undergraduate studies, he began researching the Catholic Church and was inspired by Pope Francis' love for the poor. Following the election of Pope Leo XIV, he enrolled in Order of Christian Initiation of Adults classes at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Atlanta. He received the sacraments of confirmation and first eucharist at the Easter vigil mass on April 4, 2026. He selected the name Thomas as his confirmation name for St. Thomas the Apostle. The presiding priest was Monsignor Al Jowdy.
