Hello & welcome!
Thanks for taking the time to come here. I'm extremely new to editing wikipedia, and I'm eager to learn! If I've made any kind of mistake - including best practices or style guides - please do let me know so I can continue to learn and grow my abilities.
I've been a wiki reader my whole life (who hasn't) and I'm excited to finally contribute. Right now I'm focusing on basic copy editing as a native English speaker with a firm grasp of spelling, grammar, punctuation (though I over-love the comma), structure, flow, etc. If you disagree with any of my edits, especially my sentence and style work, please do let me know so I can change my approach! If you can't tell, I'm earnest and nervous as I try to be bold.

Navigate faster using Wikipedia shortcuts

Many of the pages in the Wikipedia namespace have specialized redirects called "shortcuts" that can be entered into the search box. Most shortcuts start with WP: followed by a capitalized abbreviation of the page name. Some common shortcuts are: WP:HELP, WP:WELCOME, WP:IMAGE, WP:5P, and of course, WP:TIP. A semi-complete list of shortcuts is available at WP:CUTS.

A shortcut can be used in the search box or in a link.

To jump to the talk page of a page with a shortcut, start with "WT:" instead of "WP:".

  • it's called wiki markdown but what's the abbreviation, spacing?
• write aiming for high-school level audience, not expert-level detail, jargon, etc.
• hopefully I'm never tempted to COI but - List of bad article ideas
• projects use the importance/priority scale, it's not a generalized rating
• citation needed shorthand: {{cn}}
  • <nowiki> is the markup to isolate code
• Sections started on talk pages aren't automatically signed!
  • so sign with ~~~~
• category tags go at the bottom of pages
  • [[Category:Category name]] - add this text to articles to add the page to that category
  • [[:Category:Category name]] - this text LINKS to a category
