The Augmented Reality Poetry Machine is a participatory augmented reality poetry installation by American poet and artist Monica Storss. The project combines live poetry writing with site-specific digital placement, allowing participants to encounter poems through augmented reality in physical space.[1] It premiered at MIT's Hacking Arts Festival in 2019 and was presented at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Artfinity festival on March 5, 2025.[1][2]

Description

[edit]

In the installation, participants collaborate with a live poet to generate poems that are then placed into augmented reality environments for visitors to find, interact with, and archive.[1]

History

[edit]

MIT describes the work as having premiered at its Hacking Arts Festival in 2019.[1] In 2025, the project was included in MIT's Artfinity festival, where WBUR described it as an interactive poetry experience in MIT Memorial Lobby.[2]
