Combo Villains

Combo Villains is an indie rock duo based in Los Angeles, created in 2020 by long-time musical partners Sebastien Breugnot and Alan Ohnsman.

Since that time, they've released numerous EPs and albums, including their most recent, Angel Dust, which came out in October 2025. Their style blends many forms of rock and is particularly influenced by bands of the 1980s and 1990s, including The Pixies, R.E.M., The Cure and The Police. Multi-instrumentalist Breugnot, a native of Burgundy, France, plays guitar, bass and keyboards and provides backing vocals. Drummer Ohnsman, from Central Ohio, adds percussion and is also lead vocalist.

The two met in 2004, when Breugnot responded to an ad for a bass player placed by Woodshop, a pop rock band Ohnsman was playing drums for. From the first time they played together, they clicked musically, perhaps because of a shared admiration for The Police.

Woodshop ended in 2006 after the singer relocated to San Diego, but Breugnot, Ohnsman and lead guitarist Alan Crow continued on as a trio, rechristening themselves Rocket Chirac, with Crow serving as lead vocalist. In that configuration, their sound was an amalgam of garage, surf, and metal -- melodic, guitar-heavy rock with occasional odd twists thrown. They gigged around LA for several years and released their first full-length album, Music For Dog, in 2010. They became a quartet in 2017 after recruiting a new vocalist in 2017, and continued in that form until 2020.

When the COVID pandemic hit, lead guitarist Crow decided to leave Los Angeles, and the singer also decided he was unable to remain an active member.

Breugnot and Ohnsman continued making demos in their West Los Angeles studio, attempting to find a new singer. Having no luck, they decided Ohnsman should start contributing lead vocals. After an initial period, they felt this option worked and renamed themselves Combo Villains, a reference to a line from a Rocket Chirac song, Combo Villa. They quickly put together new material and released their debut EP, Dave Is Worried, in early 2021. The five-song EP was engineered and mixed by Frankie Siragusa, former drummer for The Posies. It helped the two start to gel as a duo and set a new musical direction, best represented by the song Mediocre.

Since then, they’ve been very productive as a recording act, releasing four EPs and three full-length albums. In addition to 2025's Angel Dust, they also released two singles in the same year: a cover of Spirits In The Material World by the Police and Fool Me Twice in November. Currently, they're completing their fourth full-length album, A Kink In The Velvet.
