- K2** is the second-highest mountain in the world, standing at **8,611 meters (28,251 feet)** above sea level. It is located in the **Karakoram Range** on the border between Pakistan and China. K2 is widely regarded as one of the most difficult and dangerous mountains to climb because of its steep slopes, harsh weather, and frequent avalanches.

The name **K2** comes from the Great Trigonometrical Survey of British India. Although the mountain has several local names, "K2" became the internationally recognized name.

K2 is part of the Baltoro Muztagh subrange of the Karakoram Mountains. It is surrounded by glaciers and rugged terrain, making access difficult for climbers and researchers.
