Is there a way that the different variants of each class can be displayed within the link - as in the / followed by a number will appear as part of the link and not plain text beside it? Cloudbound (talk) 16:07, 26 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Cloudbound: done. Use is now {{brc|378||2}} to produce Class 378/2. The second parameter can be modified as per the usual ways; the third parameter allows any integer between 0 and 9, otherwise returns the usual. Note that the link is still to the class page, not to any subclass. -mattbuck (Talk) 17:10, 26 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
That's ideal, thank you. Cloudbound (talk) 17:14, 26 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Or you could create redirects, as in Class 33/0 and Class 33/1. --Redrose64 (talk) 00:51, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Template data

[edit]

Just noticed while using the template with the visual editor that there is no template data or parameter names listed - is it worth getting these added? Danners430 (talk) 14:29, 7 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Addition of class names

[edit]

I've done a bit of tweaking in the Sandbox to enable the addition of a class name (eg. Turbostar for the class 170). I've done my own testing, but before I move the changes into the main template, does anyone else want to do their own testing?

The template should work as follows:

  • Param 1 - primary locomotive class (eg. Class 66)
  • Param 2 - modifiers (eg. s for plural, fs for plural full class name) - modifiers must always be the second parameter or omitted. Alternatively, this parameter could be the subclass (eg. 66/9) or the class name.
  • Param 3 - subclass (where param 2 is the modifier) or class name (where param 2 is the modifier or subclass)
  • Param 4 - class name (where param 3 is the subclass)

It should be possible to omit the modifier, subclass and/or the class name, but they must be entered in that heirarchical order. The plural modifiers should also work correctly, regardless of what other parameters are provided.

Subclass should add a backslash and the parameter after the numerical class, and class name should add the parameter in italics after the numerical class. Danners430 (talk) 14:39, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Since nobody responded, I’ve deployed the change, including a fix that I didn’t catch until after it went live. Danners430 (talk) 21:25, 19 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
