Usage
[edit]This template generates a numbered list of popular pages from WikiProject bot reports. It requires one parameter: the full page name of a report containing a ranked wikitable of page views.
{{Top7|1=}}
The list is formatted by {{portal content}}. Both templates apply HTML classes but not styles. These classes allow the templates' output to be styles by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The examples on this page are styled with:
<templatestyles src="Template:Portal content/styles.css"/>
Aspects of this styling (such as color) can be overridden per page with CSS transcluded to the page.
Basic usage
[edit]The required first unnamed parameter |1= specifies the page to scan with a default of the top 7 most-viewed pages for the last month. The code below displays the top 7 pages from the Comics WikiProject report:
{{Popular list|Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Popular pages}}
{{Top7|Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Popular pages}}
Custom limit
[edit]The second unnamed parameter |2= specifies an arbitrary number of ranked pages. The code below displays the top 10 pages instead of the default 7:
{{Popular list|Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Popular pages|10}}
Custom styles
[edit]The |class= parameter specifies a custom CSS class that is applied to the wrapper <div>...</div> element created by {{Portal content}}. This class can then be targeted with the CSS descendant and child selectors. The example below uses the class popular-list-example, the CSS displayed below is located on a separate page, and transcluded to this page with <templatestyles src="Template:Popular list/styles.css"/>.
CSS:
.popular-list-example ol.popular-list li::before {
background-color: #CEDFF2;
color: #000080;
}
.popular-list-example .portal-content-box-title-text {
border-bottom: solid 0.2rem #CEDFF2;
}
Template:
{{Popular list|Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Popular pages|3|class=popular-list-example}}
Output:
- Mike McFarland – American voice actor (1970–2026) (294,570 views, Start rating, Low importance)
- Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – Japanese anime television series (173,020 views, List rating, Mid importance)
- Akira (1988 film) – 1988 Japanese animated film by Katsuhiro Otomo (151,692 views, C rating, High importance)
Custom title
[edit]The |top-title= parameter changes the heading text above the list:
{{Popular list|Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Popular pages|5|top-title=Top 5 Comics Articles}}

[edit]ERROR: No wikitable found on page 'X'
