The template Cricinfo 2 is used to generate an external link to a web page at Cricinfo (CI) previously known as ESPNcricinfo. It should be used on cricket-related pages in the external links section or as a citation using the |access-date= parameter.
Based on its configuration this template would invoke one of its sub/auxiliary templates: Cricinfo 2/format, Cricinfo 2/series, Cricinfo 2/series-sub, Cricinfo 2/series-squad, Cricinfo 2/series-r, Cricinfo 2/series-rec, Cricinfo 2/tournament, Cricinfo 2/tournament-rec, Cricinfo 2/trophy, Cricinfo 2/trophy-rec, Cricinfo 2/cricketer, Cricinfo 2/cricketer-sub, Cricinfo 2/team, Cricinfo 2/team-r, Cricinfo 2/team-rec, Cricinfo 2/cricket-ground, Cricinfo 2/ground-r, Cricinfo 2/ground-rec, Cricinfo 2/auction and Cricinfo 2/auction-sub.
Please note that the Cricinfo pages have both a numeric ID and an alpha-numeric ID and that only the alpha-numeric IDs should be used to define the template.
Using this template would add the used pages to the tracking category Category:Pages using the Cricinfo template and its sub-categories based on its configuration. These tracking categories are hidden in their member pages and would only be visible based on the corresponding user preferences.

Usage methods
[edit]The template can be used to give following three types of outcomes. See examples below.
External links
[edit]When only the basic/required parameters are used the template generates an external link to be used in the External links section.
Dynamic citations
[edit]The template will generate a citation when the |access-date= parameter is defined. Defining |dynamic=y= will produce a dynamic citation; if the |dynamic= parameter isn't defined, then also the template will produce a dynamic citation but with an error message.
Archived citations
[edit]Defining |dynamic=n= will produce an archived citation. Also requires |archive-url= and |archive-date=; otherwise will display an error message.

The functions series, series-sub and series-squad are used to generate links to series-pages (tours–England tour of Australia 2025/26, tournament editions–2026 Men's T20 World Cup, league seasons–2026 Indian Premier League etc.) on CI website. They provide the base URL of Cricinfo.com/series/. The series-sub function also requires the |sub= parameter. The series-squad function also requires |squad= and |squad-id= parameters.

[edit]The title of the topic being linked to. By default the template recognises the {{PAGENAMEBASE}} and does not need to be defined in such pages. Not needed for format function; and will be ignored even if defined.
The |event= parameter works with series, series-sub, series-squad, series-r, series-rec, tournament, tournament-rec, trophy, trophy-rec, auction and auction-sub functions.
The |name= parameter works with cricketer, cricketer-sub, team, team-r, team-rec, cricket-ground, ground-r and ground-rec functions.
rec and sub
