Uhde's ancestors were protestant pastors, his father was the Prussian attorney general in the Province of Posen , he was a protestant ("evangelisch" . Uhde himself described his background as born to a Prussian attorney general and a (protestant) pastor grandfather ("Fünf primitive Meister" by W.
