Merge proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was merge into Types of trams. Qpwoeizmxnr (talk) 12:32, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
Per WP:BADFORK and WP:REDUNDANTFORK, I propose merging the following short pages into Types of trams:
Rationale:
- These are all short articles covering specific types of trams.
- Keeping them separate creates redundant content forks, which WP:REDUNDANTFORK discourages.
- Merging improves coverage, reduces fragmentation, and retains historical/technical details.
Qpwoeizmxnr (talk) 09:59, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
- Support as nominated for the same good reasons. However, I would caution that it may create an overly-long article, therefore some thought might be given into dividing the article into perhaps Types of tram by construction and Types of tram by use, as that is a clear division within this article. 10mmsocket (talk) 10:18, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 01:08, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- comment: just saying i have an opinion on this, but not that much time rn; in a few days when i have more time i'll post something on this. Nyamo Kurosawa (talk) 18:57, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Merge as proposed. Bearian (talk) 20:20, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Merge, as per the nomination. The pages could easily be merged into Types of trams and do not need their own separate articles. JustARandomEditor123 (talk) 12:20, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
| The content of Short-articulated tram was merged into Types of trams on 24 August 2025. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists. For the discussion at that location, see its talk page. |

Stuttgart DT8
[edit]Isn't the DT8 just a twin unit or married pair ("Doppeltriebwagen")? I'm somewhat certain it is not a "Kurzgelenkwagen". Nyamo Kurosawa (talk) 17:10, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Nyamo Kurosawa,
- Indeed, the older generations are each one "twin unit", but the newer generations are each one "articulated car". However, I think that you are right and removed the DT8 from the article. Thanks for pointing it out! KatVanHuis (talk) 19:26, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
Two four-axle vehicles coupled with a gangway don't make a Kurzgelenkwagen though. That "articlulated car" is still just two four-axle vehicles coupled with a gangway. Thank you for being careful with the terminology and fixing it! Nyamo Kurosawa (talk) 06:15, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
Feedback from New Page Review process
[edit]I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Nice work. The lead could benefit from being more explanatory. The first sentence is unclear other than saying what it is unlike. Happy editing!

- Hello North8000, thank you for reviewing this page and the replies. You are right: the first sentence was a bit odd. I tried to expand the lede, would you think any other alterations are needed? KatVanHuis (talk) 09:27, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Cool. IMO an article like this is best if understandable by a typical reader, and without resorting to going to other articles. So, for them, internal links are best "for further reading" rather than for being able to understand the article. In this article your basic descriptions use specialized terms that are unfamiliar to a typical reader and rely on internal links in order for a typical reader to be able to read the article. My recommendation would be to add a bit of explanatory text regarding those terms when introducing them. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 12:57, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello North8000, thank you for your very quick reply. Which of the terms would you see as unfamiliar to a typical reader? And yet, taking a random article like insects shows terms even more unfamiliar, like invertebrate, chitin and thorax. But I'm wiling to take a look a the most unfamiliar term in this article's lede. KatVanHuis (talk) 18:03, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- One would be "articulation" as a noun. Even the linked article doesn't explain what it means as a noun. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 17:52, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe "This is similar to a saddle mounted vehicle being towed.". Most people won't know what "saddle mounted" means, and I don't see how it is similar or how that helps explain it. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 18:30, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- It is similar in the way that a saddle mounted vehicle rests on its own wheels and on the towing vehicle. An articulated tram consists of two ore more car sections (also called car bodies or cars), and the end car(s) of a tram with suspended articulation also rests on its own wheels at one side and on another car body with its own wheels.
- I'm not keen on reverting, it was merely meant as an additional explanation for those who happen to be familiar with the 'towing business'. KatVanHuis (talk) 18:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- I wouldn't be bashful about reverting me, double so when I asked to please revert me if you do not agree. WP:BRD is a normal everyday process. But I'd be happy to revert my removal if you prefer. But if you'd like my opinion, it's very confusing. The link you gave says that the saddle configuration involves putting the axles of the towed vehicle on top of the towing vehicle. For suspended articulation (as I understand it) there are no axles there for either vehicle. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 19:40, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- It really took me some thinking, but indeed: with the "the saddle configuration" there are more axles involved than with the "suspended articulation". Thank you for removing it: indeed the "saddle configuration" doesn't belong here. KatVanHuis (talk) 21:22, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Merge proposal #2
[edit]I propose merging the Restaurant tram article into this one. The former appears to be a short WP:REDUNDANTFORK similar to the other three articles merged into this one in the discussion above. Trams being used as a restaurant doesn't warrant a separate article nor meet WP:GNG in my view, nor does it inherently make it a distinct type of tram. There already is a short section in this article explaining the concept. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 17:36, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Based on the consensus above I suggest that you just boldly do it. Then, per WP:BRD, if anyone violently objects we can discuss later. 10mmsocket (talk) 17:41, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Qpwoeizmxnr: Since you did a fantastic job merging the other short tram pages above, would it be alright to let you do the honors for this one as well? OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 21:06, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
