Nikki Savva (2025, page.278)

[edit]

I've moved this claim here for discussion because it seems to violate Wikipedia:Verifiability. In contrast Nikki Savva (2025, page.278) notes that Kennedy has declined to identify with any faction. There are no public statements from Kennedy on this. --Tooclosetocool (talk) 06:46, 25 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi mate, you have on several occasions on this article chosen to reference political spin, I.e ‘the subject considers himself just a Liberal’, when there is a clear source from a newspaper of record of both his factional alignment and where he voted in net zero. I appreciate you are probably trying in good faith rather than just adding promotional fluff but what you have added in regard to these two items is not encyclopaedia quality. Savva’s book is not equal to a high quality article but a paper of record on these articles. I’m going to revert these again and ask that you pls stop adding them back (and especially deleting the Sydney morning herald references, which look like covering up what actually happened here), short of you getting significant wiki consensus otherwise. Thank you. Ponyshine (talk) 21:10, 25 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for raising this. Just to clarify, this isn't about asserting a preferred narrative but about complying with Wikipedia's core content policies. Wikipedia is based on verifiability, not truth (WP:V), and multiple reliable sources can be presented with attribution where they differ (WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV). Savva's Earthquake is a high-quality secondary source for internal party dynamics, and she explicitly states that Kennedy "refuses to describe himself as left, right, or centre" (Savva 2025, p.278). That is directly relevant when assessing factional claims and should not be discounted on the basis that it is a book rather than a newspaper; Savva is a well-established political analyst, and the source meets WP:RS. Separately, The Age reporting that identifies Kennedy as aligned with the National Right can be included with clear attribution (e.g. "The Age reported that…"), consistent with WP:BLP, noting that Kennedy has not publicly confirmed any factional affiliation. What should be avoided is presenting factional alignment as settled fact in Wikipedia's voice, or combining that reporting with unrelated material (such as votes or views on net zero) in a way that creates original synthesis (WP:SYN) unless a reliable source explicitly makes that connection. I'm not seeking to remove Age/SMH sourcing wholesale, only to ensure that attribution, weight, and synthesis are handled correctly. Happy to seek wider consensus if needed. --Tooclosetocool (talk) 22:55, 25 December 2025 (UTC) I've made an edit diff to the article, see WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV --Tooclosetocool (talk) 23:03, 25 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I get it and appreciate the effort you’re making here. Comfortable with where it landed as of now. My main contributions to wiki is removing political spin from articles, so in my view him declining to identify with a faction is the spin politicians put on something they don’t want to talk about, which is rather irrelevant to the facts, I.e subject’s factional alignment. But comfortable with the note that it is Massola and Savva’s reporting. Ponyshine (talk) 00:25, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I just made this edit in an attempt to incorporate the report in the Age that was pointed out by Polyshine. --Tooclosetocool (talk) 04:10, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Polyshine. You cited The Age which says that Kennedy spoke against retaining 2050 net-zero target as a policy. However, it is anomalous to three reliable sources including the AFR and The Australian who state the Kennedy was undecided, see diff of my recent edits. --Tooclosetocool (talk) 12:02, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
