I am, or others may be, offended or triggered by the lead image of this article.
The lead image for this article has been discussed at length. Wikipedia is not censored and potentially offensive illustrations are necessary for encyclopedic treatment of a difficult and sensitive topic. The consensus is that the image, by showing healed self-harm scars (rather than, say, open wounds), avoids being either too sensational (risking gratuitous shock) or too tame (risking an understatement of the effects of self-harm). Can I add images of my own self-harm to this article?

It seems that this article needs a lot of medical citations, something that hasn't been addressed since August 2023. Thanks, 1isall (talk/contribs) 00:23, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also worth mentioning is that the History section has the original synthesis template.
I've seen 6 instances of [medical citation needed] in the Pathophysiology section. But the more medical citations
This article or section possibly contains original synthesis. Source material should verifiably mention and relate to the main topic.

Addition of self sabotage
[edit]I was wondering why self sabotage Isn't currently included in this article. Is it because the topic hasn't been researched enough? or is it because it isn't a form of self harm that can result in the injury of one's own tissue?
I personally think the addition of it would really help as I believe self sabotage is often overlooked as a form of self harm. Widening the scope of this article to include self sabotage could not only improve the knowledge that this article could provide, but improve the understanding that self harm is not a purely physical act.
Of course there are good reasons to not include it in this article, such as there not being enough credible research. ~2026-18691-91 (talk) 18:29, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't know about the concept before reading your comments - so thanks for suggesting! From my quick glance it feels okay for (at least) a passing mention of it as a related concept. Personally, I think we may have it exist as a separate article (/draft) - self sabotaging is defined as unconscious decisions, while self harm is deliberate.

I am kinda scared that someone is looking for this page because they are addicted to self harm
I am actually an ex-addicted but when I was bad at the time I used to search for images like this
