Is Gerard Schwarz still the music director? Does he share that with the RLPO in the UK, or has he moved on from there? (RLPO = Royal Liverpool Phil.Orch.) David Martland 20:22 Dec 7, 2002 (UTC)

According to the Seattle website he divides his time between there and Liverpool. --Camembert

That 1908 photo

[edit]

Does anyone know where they performed in their early years? There was no symphony hall as such, but Seattle had numerous rather large theaters. In particular, does anyone know where that photo was taken? - Jmabel | Talk 05:31, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's not a symphony

[edit]

Hmm. You (Wikipedia) have just got through telling me that "A symphony is an extended musical composition in Western classical music, most often for orchestra."

And now you're telling me that this thing that's an orchestra is in fact a "symphony"?

It's not, though, is it?

Surely this thing we're talking about is the Seattle Symphony Orchestra? Don't we have the energy to say that? Is it utterly exhausting for you to say "orchestra"? Just like it's utterly exhausting for most folks to say "address" after the word "email" if they're talking about an email address (rather than an email). You (Wikipedia) did, after all, say "In 1919, the orchestra was reorganized with new bylaws under the name Seattle Symphony Orchestra".

Sure, if you're feeling tired, or pressed for time, then have a nice sit down and feel free to refer to this orchestra as just the "Seattle Symphony". But if you're trying to write an encyclopedia, then can we maybe possibly make it clear that this thing is called the "Seattle Symphony Orchestra"? Kay, thanks. 2601:600:A400:91B0:C188:2F0A:703B:AB50 (talk) 00:27, 12 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
