Proposed update: Transitioning status from "defunct" to "active" (April 2026)

Following the recent corporate restructuring of Aerojet Rocketdyne (dissolved January 5, 2026) and the subsequent split of its assets, I am proposing that we update this article's lead and infobox from the past tense ("was") to the present tense ("is").

As of the second half of 2026, the Rocketdyne brand has been re-established as a standalone entity. The space propulsion portion of the former company is now an independent manufacturer following its acquisition from L3Harris by AE Industrial Partners. Keeping the article in the past tense or marked as "defunct" since 2005 is now factually inaccurate and fails to reflect the current aerospace landscape.

Evidence for the update

According to Space News, the brand was re-established as a standalone entity following the L3Harris divestiture in early 2026.^[1]
Detailed reporting by Reuters confirms the 60% stake sale and the resulting independent status of the propulsion business under the Rocketdyne name.^[2]

Proposed Changes

1. Change the opening sentence from "Rocketdyne was..." to "Rocketdyne is..." 2. Update the Infobox company to remove the `defunct = 2005` parameter. 3. Update the `parent` field to include AE Industrial Partners (2026–present). 4. Remove "Defunct" and "Disestablished" categories at the bottom of the page.

I believe these changes are necessary to maintain the article's encyclopedic accuracy regarding the current status of the brand. I would welcome any feedback or thoughts on the most precise wording for the infobox's "Fate" parameter. ~~~~ Awhit003 (talk) 23:58, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
