Proposed addition of NOIRLab annotated image

Hello. I have a disclosed conflict of interest as a contributor connected with NOIRLab, so I am proposing this here on the Talk page for independent editor review rather than making the change directly. I would like to propose adding the NOIRLab annotated image of Puppis to the article, while keeping the existing naked-eye image already used in the Features section. Based on the current article layout visible in the screenshot, the article has enough text and visual space in the Features section to support an additional educational image. The existing naked-eye image is useful and should remain in place; the NOIRLab image would complement it by showing the IAU boundaries, stick figure, and labeled bright stars, helping readers identify the constellation more clearly. The Commons file appears to be available under a free license suitable for use on Wikipedia, with attribution to NOIRLab/Eckhard Slawik as provided on the file page. The caption wording can of course be adjusted if editors prefer a different style. The external caption link can also be replaced with a <ref> citation if that is preferred. If the community prefers the article as it stands, I am also happy for this proposal to be withdrawn entirely. Marcodatadev (talk) 23:19, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback.

If removing the author’s name from the caption would help address the concern and make the captions non-promotional, we can certainly do that.

Nearest star

The nearest star is listed as '2MASS J0729-3954', but this is actually a brown dwarf; a substellar object. Praemonitus (talk) 16:46, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

Revised proposal: NOIRLab annotated Puppis image

Hello. I have a disclosed conflict of interest because I am connected with NOIRLab, so I am requesting review rather than making the edit directly.

I propose adding the annotated Puppis image below to the “Features” section, immediately above the existing naked-eye image. I think this image could be a useful addition because it shows the IAU boundaries, constellation stick figure, and labels for the brightest stars while complementing the existing view.
