Poire Willem

I've heard this fruit brandy referred to as simply "poire", and as "poire Willem". "Poire" is obviously French. I suspect the average frenchman would struggle to pronounce Williams - maybe something like "weel-yammss".

I suspect I heard the bare "poire" in France, and the "poire Willem" in Germany, but I can't source either. MrDemeanour (talk) 12:46, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

In Germany, I'd assume that you'd hear the same thing called "Williams Christ Schnaps" or "Willi" for short. Poire, I read on here, for the first time. (a German) --T3rminat0r (talk) 10:34, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Article Picture

The picture currently used in the article is, as per the German linked article, actually not a "real" prisonnière, but rather, the bottom of the bottle was cut off, the pear inserted, and the bottle bottom melted back on. The seam is covered by the label being attached low on the bottle. The German article has a second picture of a bottle, which has a pear that actually grew inside the bottle. Might be a good idea to replace this article's picture, or at least add the second one and update their descriptions? --T3rminat0r (talk) 10:35, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
