It doesn't actually say how it works. It might not be obvious to every person that it works by decreasing the volume of the cylinder, by introducing the mass of the plunger into it. It will displace, and pump, exactly the same volume of fluid as the volume of the plunger for every stroke, and draw the same amount into the cylinder when it reciprocates. The type in the title dont always have dynamic seals, and some types have CIP rinsing of the "crankcase" (to ensure a constant clean wetted surface, lubricate, and to carry away any blowby) in these cases the "seal" is the entire cylindrical surface of the piston, although the CIP/rinse designs must also have a functional crankcase/rear seal.~2026-32429-71 (talk) 20:10, 1 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
