The Kekeno Seal Colony isn't mentioned at all.

[edit]

I am not making a section for it because I can't find much info other than "mostly male" "highest population is in winter" https://wellington.govt.nz/recreation/outdoors/walks-and-walkways/beyond-the-city/red-rocks-coastal-walk

From what I remember, they will go visit a female colony at mating time, and the ones who fail to mate come back to live for winter at Red Rocks. But I can't find any actual info supporting that. Google is so bad at returning useful results these days.

Thanks for your comments. The seals haul out at Sinclair Head, ,,. This is just a bit further along the coast from the red rocks, and the seals are mentioned in the Sinclair Head article. The question is how much, if anything, to include about the seals in the Red Rocks article. I favour only brief coverage, linking to the Sinclair Head article, perhaps as part of a wider observation about visitor attractions along the south coast._Marshelec (talk) 09:56, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
