Missing material
[edit]I came here after hearing on BBC Radio 4 news today that Adderley's IOPC criminal case had just been passed to the CPS. So I was hoping to read about the background on Wikipedia. I was a bit surprised to find almost nothing, so have added what I can. Of most concern however is that I found that the information I was looking for, and much more, had been on this page but had been deleted en-masse: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nick_Adderley&diff=1196526616&oldid=1196455866 . Maybe I am using to much hindsight but it almost looks like professional vandalism. I hope it doesn't happen to the well sourced stuff I have added. 92.6.158.158 (talk) 15:19, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Also some recent 'copyright' removal which is always a concern as we cannot see what was removed. Does look like a professional job 78.148.251.25 (talk) 10:27, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

- Material was removed either for being uncited, or for being copyright. This sort of removal is routine. Please see WP:BLP, WP:RS, and WP:COPYRIGHT. DuncanHill (talk) 10:32, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Chief Constable on honorific_prefix
[edit]Hello. I saw on the Nick Adderley page that you deleted Chief Constable from the honorific_prefix. Most UK constables already have Chief Constable entered in the honorific_prefix and that's why I entered it. Please explain to me why you deleted Chief Constable from honorific_prefix. Thank you for your understanding. StefanNoviSad (talk) 06:48, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- Firstly, it doesn't seem to me to be true that most chief constables have that listed in the honorific_prefix field of the infobox: checking some random examples from Category:British Chief Constables, the only examples I can find where that is true is where you have recently added it. As for why I removed it: as I said in the edit summary, I am unconvinced that "chief constable" really is an honorific prefix rather than being just a job title, and even if it is I don't believe that it applies to former chief constables, especially not those who were fired from the position! - Hello, thank you for your detailed explanation. When I said that some Chief Constables have it entered in the honorific_prefix, I meant when I opened police departments on the Law enforcement in the United Kingdom page. StefanNoviSad (talk) 09:16, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- @StefanNoviSad please see MOS:PREFIX to see the limited use of this field in infoboxes. Nthep (talk) 18:38, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello. Nowhere in the MOS:PREFIX does it say about Chief Constable. StefanNoviSad (talk) 19:02, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- I think that this is kind of the point here. ZeroAlpha87 (talk) 19:07, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't understand what you wanted to say. Can you explain in more detail. Thank you. StefanNoviSad (talk) 19:09, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- I mean that it does not mention 'Chief Constable', as 'Chief Constable' is not an honorific prefix. ZeroAlpha87 (talk) 23:14, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- Is there a list of all honorific_prefixes that can be used? StefanNoviSad (talk) 05:51, 15 August 2026 (UTC)
- No. There is the article on honorifics and the numerous national versions like English honorifics which mentions many but is not necessarily an exhaustive list.
- As a Brit I can assure you that Chief Constable is not an honorific in the UK, it might be in other countries but not in the UK. Nthep (talk) 06:39, 15 August 2026 (UTC)
