Should pilot be in his starting bio?

[edit]

I think pilot should be in his starting bio, I haven't edited Wikipedia in a little bit. But when I watched the new HBO series and saw it wasn't on the wiki page I was sort of disappointed. It is a very hard and difficult process to go through to become a pilot and it shows a more serious side of him, if activism is there then shouldn't pilot also be there? Wikipedia shouldn't be a big flashy thing to only focus on what makes them popular, at no point should a bio only explain what made them popular, it should also explain their life and occupations. The only mention of him being a pilot is after you scroll down to his career history, if someone wanted to know a few facts about him they might never see he was a pilot. I very strongly disagree with the inclusion of "pilot" in the intro and think it should be removed, having previously removed it myself. You say that "Wikipedia shouldn't be a big flashy thing to only focus on what makes them popular, at no point should a bio only explain what made them popular", but our manual of style says that is exactly what we should focus on.
MOS:ROLEBIO reads "avoid overloading the lead paragraph with various and sundry roles; instead, emphasize what made the person notable. Incidental and non-noteworthy roles (i.e. activities that are not integral to the person's notability) should usually not be mentioned in the lead paragraph". Fielder is undeniably not notable for being a pilot, he became a pilot during the creation of a TV series which is one of his actual claims to notability. I also don't think "activist" should be there for the same reasons, but that's a separate conversation. Sock (tock talk) 22:17, 2 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
John Travolta's bio sneaks his pilot status in the last sentence of the intro to his bio — how's that for a compromise? The Lorax 🗣️🌳 (talk) 22:57, 2 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure sounds good. A Stupid Horse (talk) 17:12, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
If you look at many celebrities who hold a pilots license it is generally included in their bio near/at the end. It seems to be the standard. Other examples aside from Travolta are Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise. Bruce Dickinson even has an entire paragraph about it! ~2026-49591-15 (talk) 17:49, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Lead sentence

[edit]

The lead sentence should say that he's a comedian and actor, as he's been in multiple projects as an actual character (not just playing himself). Arguably director and writer, too. But at least actor. ~2026-42454-79 (talk) 01:29, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
