New Zealand/Mexico

NZ's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that they have no record of being in Mercosur to begin with in an Official Information request in May of 2024. 70.90.200.1 (talk) 02:02, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

I reckon New Zealand should be removed from the list of members. We have confirmation from an official government source that there's no record of their membership. New Zealand should definitely be removed from the list of members and the map. I guess someone added it as a mistake or a joke and it stayed, but if there is evidence of the contrary it should totally be removed. Ragedymann (talk) 22:43, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

Yeah looking at edit history the first mention of New Zealand was added without a source on August 14th 2004. NZ isn't mentioned on Mercosur official website so definitely needs to be removed. ~2026-19778-88 (talk) 15:01, 31 March 2026 (UTC)

Name

Why is it called Mercosur (/l)? I could guess that sur and sul are south in English, and Merco is something like market, but is there any evidence for this, or the process of agreeing the name(s)? Nick Barnett (talk) 07:38, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

Very high HDI

@Loytra: Greetings! Regarding this revert...thanks for pointing out that "very high" is terminology from the original source. I was double-checking this classification for Mercosur and I couldn't confirm it. Human Development Index is linked and has a list which it introduces as 'Ranked from 1 to 74 in the year 2023, the following countries are considered to have "very high human development"'. The first Mercosur country I checked, Brazil, isn't on that list. Is the "very high" designation for Mercosur an error, or is there some other source that documents the "very high" rating for the whole bloc or something else I'm missing? -- Beland (talk) 09:54, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

@Beland: Hi! Thanks for the follow up. A rating of 'very high' just indicates a score of .800 or higher (see ). Taking the infobox HDI at face value, this would place Mercosur just in the 'very high' range. However, I also haven't been able to verify the number as of yet; I assume it's taken from the cited source, but said source is a >500 page document that doesn't load properly on my phone, lol.
