Outdated information /references

[edit]

In doing some source-to-text integrity checks I noticed that many references sources for this article are from the 1990s and early 2000s, I even spotted one from 1970! Though it can be helpful to include historical information, using research from 20-50 years ago as sources for attitudes and information, without specifying dates, can be harmful to the contemporary relevance of the information provided. Please focus on current information and/or provide dates when discussing historical attitudes and information. Thanks! Jscarboro (talk) 17:10, 27 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Creation of Perimenopause Page

[edit]

I believe a dedicated Wikipedia page for perimenopause is needed. Currently, it redirects to "menopause." Perimenopause involves distinct hormonal changes and symptoms, differing from menopause. It affects many women, significantly impacting their quality of life. Medical issues affecting women often receive less attention and funding. This lack of research and awareness about perimenopause leads to under-treatment. Cosmicseeds (talk) 21:51, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'm all for a separate topic. ~2026-25413-89 (talk) 15:08, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have reached out to WikiProject Women's Health for guidance and support: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women's Health#Turning the Perimenopause redirect into a standalone article. ~~~~ SupportYourLocalPlanet (talk) 05:04, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

There is already a Draft:Perimenopause SupportYourLocalPlanet (talk) 07:48, 2 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Cosmicseeds
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia%3ASplitting?wprov=sfla1
sets out the rules for whether something merits it's own page.
The subsection itself doesn't but it may well be we could make a page that does. I think it's certainly its own notable topic these days and so meets that element.
let's work on the current draft page. LarryAfner (talk) 10:08, 19 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the relevance of this content is very high, as it covers a life stage that all women who reach midlife will eventually go through. The fact that awareness of perimenopause remains low only increases the need for this information. I hope other editors will jump in to help improve the draft page. SupportYourLocalPlanet (talk) 08:54, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Update: Draft:Perimenopause was declined again at AfC on 13 October 2026, partly on the grounds that a standalone article is not needed alongside this one. As LarryAfner noted above, WP:SPLIT applies. Is there support for, or objection to, a standalone article on perimenopause? If there are no objections by the end of October, I will refer to this discussion when resubmitting. @LarryAfner, Sulfurboy, Carolina2k22, and SomeoneDreaming: ForPlanetaryHealth (talk) 13:18, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@ForPlanetaryHealth From my perspective, I don't hold any major objection to it being its own article, it really depends on its body content and whether, reasonably, it can be included under Menopause or not.
For creating a new article: I'd imagine that'd ideally look like adding a Main article hatnote on the Menopause article under its Perimenopause heading and leaving the current-ish content on there.
From what I can tell, there has been improvements to the Draft:Perimenopause draft since I originally reviewed it, but I certainly agree with the latest decline, especially the WP:MEDRS concerns. I do not think that it warrants its own article if the body is just a list of symptoms, briefly notes diagnosis and management, yet only has a paragraph-ish on society and culture. There would need to be a very material expansion on it a bit more broadly.
Unless there is objection from anyone else, if the draft can be improved to a stage where WP:MEDRS concerns don't apply, and it covers Perimenopause more broadly, I think that it could potentially be accepted. Carolina2k22 • (talk) 23:39, 19 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Education assignment: TCU SOM Wikipedia Elective Spring 2025 Block 3A

[edit]

This article was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation–supported course assignment, between 26 May 2025 and 6 June 2025. Further details are available on the course page. Student editor(s): Always Studying (article contribs).

I am an MS4 completing an assignment for a Wiki Education Assignment. I plan to make the following changes: I will use systematic reviews to describe the effectiveness and relative efficacy of hormonal, non-hormonal, and energy-based therapies, both as standalone treatments and in combination, for the management of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Symptoms of Perimenopause

[edit]

I think the Symptoms of Perimenopause should be changed, because right now it lists Atrophy. But the link for Atrophy takes you to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrophic_vaginitis. This will cause confusion because most people know Atrophy as a wasting disease, where you lose fat, muscle, and bone density as your body digests itself for nutrients.

I think the symptom should changed to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrophic_vaginitis just to clarify that women in any stage of Menopause aren't going to waste away into husks. 68.63.220.187 (talk) 02:07, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thank you. Crossroads -talk- 20:11, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Likely AI generated text

[edit]

Hi - there are a lot of edits here that are likely LLM-generated, based on many common signs seen in aggregate across AI edits on Wikipedia. This is a probably incomplete list:

  • this
  • this
  • the edits ClueBot reverted and that the editor unreverted
  • again probably others

All of this needs extensive review for hallucinations, source-to-text integrity, original research, non-neutral tone, and the like. Gnomingstuff (talk) 03:47, 4 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

If this is so then it should just be reverted. Otherwise errors can stick around and propagate. Crossroads -talk- 23:17, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Bumping this because we should try to get rid of the article-wide LLM tag. Any objections to just dumping the text added in these August 2025 edits? Crossroads -talk- 21:02, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm for reverting this text. Women's health is already filled with misinformation, don't want this article becoming apart of it. Plasticponies (talk) 06:14, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gnomingstuff,Plasticponies, and Crossroads, Just wanted to follow up on the LLM tag for this article. Looks like some material has been reverted, did that take care of the issues in particular sections? If so I would love to remove the article wide tag and tag the specific sections that still need work with: I can also do some review/clean up for source-to-text integrity etc in those sections. Thanks for your help Jscarboro (talk) 16:02, 27 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I haven't been following this super closely, but whatever was added in the edits linked above should be removed, or else carefully reviewed. Feel free to tag the particular sections though instead of the whole article. Crossroads -talk- 15:05, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Crossroads!
I have removed the article-wide AI-generated|date=November 2025 tag, after tagging the sections specified above with AI-generated section|date=August 2026, as well as completing source to text checks + edits for all of the paragraphs in the introductory section Jscarboro (talk) 21:03, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
