@Scope creep and Lamona: as you can see, I boldly redirected to the institute. I think that there was sufficient support for the idea at the AfD that it is not crazy, and I don't think a no-consensus AfD enjoins the redirect. Please tell me and/or revert me if I am mistaken. Morning @Russ Woodroofe: I think that was good decision. The referencing was very particularly weak and if at some point in the future if she becomes prominent, then the redirect can be reverted. I would have likely taken it back to Afd in about 3 months anyway to have another go. I just hope it stays. scope_creepTalk 06:06, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

This is a curious choice, though I see there was already a non-standard H1 bio of the founder on the institute page. A merge the other way, with a normal bio and only a summary in the institute page, seems more typical. Petrides is well-published in the OER field, including contributing to defining the term and shaping CC's relation to it; Needs cleanup, maybe suffered some recentism? Her 2000-2010 work on online learning and open textbooks were influential. – SJ + 15:00, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Sj: sorry to take a minute to get back. There's been also some recent discussion on my talk page. Dreamyshade is interested in developing the Petrides/institution page. I remain somewhat skeptical that there is notability independent of the institute (or perhaps as you say of the institute independent of Petrides); I do have a fair bit of experience with looking for sources in academic AfDs and didn't find a strong case. But as you suggest, there are different ways to organize, and if established editors want to work on it, then I'd be happy to sit back and see how that plays out. scope_creep said something similar on my talk page as far as letting things play out (although with a little more focus on an eventual AfD). Dreamyshade indicated that someone closely connected to Petrides contacted them: did the same happen for you? Russ Woodroofe (talk) 18:46, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Russ Woodroofe, I heard that some open education pages have been deleted recently, including the Cape Town declaration and this bio, and would like to remedy that. Our coverage of open ed and the commons is surprisingly poor, all things considered. I'll take a pass as I worked in the OER space during the decade when these events & orgs were part of the canon. This one seems like a natural example of work affecting many education institutions (higher and lower). I'm also always keen to rescue bios of women, which are disproportionately left as drafts and deleted. đŸŒ» – SJ + 20:17, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed that this wants secondary coverage of the impact of her work on education systems. For instance, some of the hubs are their own white-labelled sites which have their own name, coverage, and impact. cf. Texas's OERTX. And the interplay between the work of a founder and their org, or a researcher and their lab, is fuzzy at this size. – SJ + 22:09, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unmerge

[edit]

I removed the bio from the ISKME article and restored a shorter version here. I added a bit of context from 2003-2010 when this work was important in converging on a definition of OER, contributing to the Cape Town declaration, and getting national support for the idea within the US. The publications could still use pruning; and it needs more secondary coverage from that era. – SJ + 21:52, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
