Labor Day In Nepal

[edit]

Nepal also celebrates Labor Day on 1st May and the Government announces a public holiday on that day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.253.96.166 (talk) 05:32, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Labour Day in the UK

[edit]

Labour Day is not celebrated in the UK, but they do have a public holiday on the first Monday in May. So they are the wrong color on the map. 82.8.133.177 (talk) 01:16, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is indeed correct 74.57.171.43 (talk) 02:33, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

UK is still completely wrong, the early May Bank Holiday can fall anywhere between the 1st May and the 7th of May, whichever is the first Monday in May. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-26639-77 (talk) 12:08, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Labour day

[edit]

the article should not mention the countries whose labor day is on may first because the articles for international workers day and may day cover it 70.168.135.229 (talk) 15:44, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thank you for commenting here instead of simply reverting again. Content can exist in multiple article so I don't think removing it solely for that reason is the best idea. These holidays are also known as "labour day". If they weren't, then I'd agree with the removal. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 00:52, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
the section heading says other dates so it should be limited to countries which celebrate labour day on other dates besides may 1 70.168.135.229 (talk) 15:24, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Austria: May 1st is "Staatsfeiertag" not labor day

[edit]

In the map shouldn't Asutria be changed to yellow as May 1st is a national holiday but not labor day? see https://www.bmeia.gv.at/gk-new-york/aktuelles/gesetzliche-feiertage 147.161.234.108 (talk) 08:27, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

labour day in new Zealand is on the 4th Monday in October there are no public holidays here in September

[edit]

AS above, the graphic is wrong 219.89.3.136 (talk) 16:45, 3 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

I changed it to use the description from the original at File:Observance of International Workers' Day RGBY.svg. It doesn't try to use the actual date but is more general. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 21:16, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

graphic

[edit]

This isn't really that big of a deal, but the colours are slightly confusing... it seems to me that the colours would be better suited around the other way?

As I was writing that, I figured out what it was that was so confusing... What on earth is the use of "Labour Day falls or may fall on 1 May"? Either it does or it doesn't, surely?

What is the use of specifying 1 May on the graphic when none of the countries appear to use it as their date for the holiday? The red and grey ones are all presumably no's, the yellow is just about whether or not there's a public holiday and the greens are labelled as "not a holiday on may 1"

I really think the colours should be changed, and/or maybe the key JordyGrey talk🧸 17:21, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

1st of May in Finland

[edit]

Seems that in Finland the color on the map is incorrect as it can be considered as a labour's day as well but this is also another celebration such as spring day known as Vappu in Finnish and Valborg in Swedish. Worth maybe add a special section in the article and change the color to green as yellow can be misleading.

See https://finland.fi/life-society/for-finnish-university-students-may-day-is-the-greatest-time-of-year-heres-why/

Hooray! It’s time for May Day (May 1)! What was once a festival dedicated to labourers evolved into a massive celebration among Finnish students, especially at polytechnic institutes. ~2026-26411-27 (talk) 09:25, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Of course, Finland should also be red.~2026-30054-91 (talk) 10:48, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Vappu" is officially "the Day of Finnish labour".~2026-30054-91 (talk) 11:11, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please do not merge yet

[edit]

I am going to contact the closer about the premature and incorrectly-interpreted closure, particularly when when we were discussing modifying the target to be the other way from what the closer has closed it as MangoMan11 (talk) 01:29, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The closer doesn't seem to be willing to reopen the discussion, so unless you want to bring it all the way to WP:DRV, editors should indeed merge this article. FaviFake (talk) 15:54, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
No, what the closer actually said is that they suggest having it renominated as a fresh discussion with different options and including more similar articles so as to have a better discussion that might reach a productive consensus. I will subsequently start that so, no, this article should not be merged because we will be discussing it further. MangoMan11 (talk) 11:11, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

USA should be yellow

[edit]

The United States *does* have a public holiday on May 1: Loyalty Day, created explicitly to deflect from labor celebrations on that date. It has its own article here on Wikipedia. This, and the reason for its creation, merit a mention in the article on the international custom. ~2026-50858-54 (talk) 23:54, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mentioning that context in the text sounds like a good idea, but in the map legend yellow is for Another public holiday on 1 May. Loyalty Day isn't a public holiday in the sense that people get the day off work. Belbury (talk) 09:03, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
