Souvenir sales

[edit]

Content about selling Derby-related souvenirs is problematic not just because it gives the appearance of promoting their sale. The bigger problem is if one is let into the article, then more souvenir sellers will want to add content about their souvenirs as well. This quickly becomes untenable. "Grand marshal"

[edit]

Per the official Kentucky derby site, the dignitaries/celebrities who call "Riders up!" are not called "grand marshals". They call them "Celebrity Riders Up!". the Stefen 𝕋ower 20:20, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

This is incorrect. It started 152 years ago. Update this every year, automate it, or get rid of it. ~2026-26612-00 (talk) 20:48, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done. On May 17, it will be 151 years ago, and then it should automatically change from 150 to 151 per the template. the Stefen 𝕋ower 01:22, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Edit Request: Add official experience and ticket provider

[edit]

Hello! I am a disclosed employee of Quint with a conflict of interest. I would like to request a minor, factual addition to the Kentucky Derby page to note the official experience partner. I propose adding this neutral sentence to the end of the existing **"Tickets"** or **"Organization"** section: "Official ticket, travel, and premium hospitality packages for the event are provided through Derby Experiences."

Thank you to the volunteer editor who reviews and implements this factual update! Lukestu (talk) 20:20, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done Wikipedia articles cannot be promotional or provide directory-style information per WP:YELLOW. That's what the Derby website is for, not this encyclopedia article. the Stefen 𝕋ower 20:47, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the review and the guidance on directory style information. I completely understand the concern about avoiding a directory or ticket-purchasing guide. My intent is strictly historical rather than promotional, as the joint venture between Churchill Downs and Quint to establish Derby Experiences has fundamentally shaped the event's modern hospitality and tourism infrastructure since 2008, managing over 11,000 corporate and international guests annually. To completely remove any promotional tone and strictly adhere to WP:NOTDIRECTORY, would you be open to a purely encyclopedic, historically-focused sentence in the "Organization" section instead? For example: "Since 2008, Churchill Downs has operated its official fan hospitality and international tourism program under a joint partnership known as Derby Experiences." I appreciate your help in finding the right encyclopedic balance! Lukestu (talk) 12:48, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I completely appreciate the caution regarding directory style text, and I want to be clear that I’m not advocating for a consumer-facing guide or booking information.
My point regarding historical relevance is that there is a distinct structural difference between a standard corporate sponsor (which is purely a marketing/licensing agreement) and an operational joint venture like Derby Experiences. When Churchill Downs partnered with Quint in 2008, it wasn't a standard sponsorship deal, it was a fundamental shift in the track's operational layout and business model. The track explicitly allocated a dedicated percentage of its core ticket and venue inventory to be managed through this centralized platform because the operational demands for high-end hospitality and international tourism infrastructure had outgrown their internal capacity.
For an event like the Kentucky Derby, where premium hospitality and corporate entertainment blocks dictate a massive portion of the venue's modern physical footprint and revenue strategy, how that inventory is managed is a notable piece of its modern corporate history.
If we strictly avoid any directory language (no pricing, no booking instructions, no promotional buzzwords), a simple statement noting when the track transitioned to this shared infrastructure model under the "Organization" section provides accurate corporate context for the modern era. Was this organizational change covered in any WP:SECONDARY sources, such as newspapers or TV station news articles? If it got such coverage from one or more of these kinds of sources, a sentence about it may be all right. the Stefen 𝕋ower 22:26, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes it was, thank you for hearing me out.
Please see below for two references from secondary sources. Thank you!

Not done This has the whiff of an internal detail that is not typically noteworthy, and the passing (not concentrated) discussion in articles from not-major sources you have provided confirms that. And we're talking about a company that doesn't have its own article, which, if it existed, would demonstrate its notability. If you had at least one secondary source that discussed this relationship in-depth, that might be something to look at. But I don't seriously think this is encyclopedic material. I don't think those reading about the Kentucky Derby in an encyclopedia are looking for this kind of information. And it still has a feel of promotion. I have to pass. the Stefen 𝕋ower 23:06, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
